I don't see Chinese parents taking their daughters to see a Black Mermaid. Actually is there any evidence of ANY film marketed towards young girls performing exceptionally well in China. I think gender and race are factors here. 

 

Black Panther appeals to an older male audience so I can see more adults showing up in that way.

I swear, Asians are the WORST when it comes to racism. The fact that people in my country are calling out Disney for casting Halle and then commenting on social media “That’s not the Ariel I grew up with” or “Not my Ariel” all because she’s black.
