I was about to say… many countries in Asia are colorist af (they worship pale skin) china, Korea, Japan, India etc. so this isn’t that shocking. If the movie is great the color of her skin shouldn’t matter. Plus she’s an amazing singer!

Disney probably doesn’t expect much from China (and East Asia in general) either as it seems to be marketed more in North America and Europe.

Practically every film with a black lead bombs in China what’s new. They even hide/delete the black people in promotional posters over there

but Black Panther still made like $100M in China... maybe this movie is just bad?!

china has somewhat cratered as a US movie export market now that they've established their own big budget film ecosystem. only 2 US movies made above $50M in china this year, only 1 of which crossed $100M and that's avatar 2.
