Taylor Swift - 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)'

Y'all trying to rewrite history, this is probably her 3rd least favorite of her albums after Debut and Reputation. I wonder how she feels about Innocent now.

It was kinda obvious she was going to change that line :michael: either way, she was going to get dragged and cause people to fume so I guess she went for the healthier option

For the GP, sure (though Speak Now is bigger than evermore too), but Speak Now is a fan favorite.

TBH I like the new lyric a lot:ducky:

If this is a “least favorite” confessional… :bird:

Speak Now is my 2nd fav but we know Taylor is business minded. This album "flopped" relative to Fearless (despite opening with 1M...) and didn't get an AOTY nod which is important to her

I just realized I misread your comment. :rip:

I didn't notice you said "her least favorite album" as her own personal opinions on her albums. Not the favorite album of the audience. :dies:

I don't really get the dramatics over her changing one line. Especially since it's not a lazy change.

I even less get people saying "but it was supposed to be a faithful re-recording of the music" like Girl At Home TV doesn't exist.

I think the problem is that it opens the door for either a) her to change other random things about other songs she doesn’t like, whether lyrics or production etc. OR b) encourages fans to nitpick other songs of hers where they have lyrics they don’t like or lyrics that are judged more harshly in 2023 than they were at the time of release. Both of these should be avoided imo and I do think it’s supposed to, in the general sense, be faithful re-recordings. They obviously won’t be perfect but imo they should be as close as possible to originals since her idea for releasing them in the first place is to “replace” the old ones - changing the songs too much from the old ones would be kind of re-writing her own history a bit.

Why is everyone on twitter saying it l**ked?

Maybe the mean the booklet? I don’t think anything except a Mine snippet has leaked

The eras tour has only one speak now Song and not even an official single. Of course the album is one of her less favourite. She clearly finds It boring to perform.

I wonder if she changed the “32 and still growin’ up now” lyric from Innocent to “46 and still growin’ up now” :jonny5:

all jokes aside, my honest thought about the BTR debacle is that: yes, i was hoping she wouldn't change. but it doesn't bother me because i stopped taking these rerecordings seriously.

it's clear that she didn't think it would be this sucessfull, so the improvements coming over time, songs being excluded, and the last minute messy decisions made me take a step back and not take it seriously. at the end of the day, its fun to come back to my 17s and relive everything, but soon she'll move to next one on so there's nothing to be stressed about. bring on the new tracks and the signed cd and i'm happy.

After that glowing prologue? Just because she doesn't return to something often doesn't mean it's a lesser favorite, I think.

I would like to think that she has no qualms with releasing Innocent. It was something that was true at that time and sometimes that's more important than polishing things up to look nice after the fact (sorry Better Than Revenge)

But this is not too much. It's one line. One that she probably doesn't feel proud at all nowadays. It's not like she's changing every other lines.

It’s not a big deal, I just think it’s silly. Everyone has called someone they didn’t like a **** in their late teens/early 20s, it’s about as raw a petty teenage emotion as you can get on record. :rip:

I promise I’m not the one who needs to get over anything, as I’m not the one melting down. :deadbanana4:

Many of us will still have “fun” with this “fun song.”

taylor DOESN'T hate or dislike any of her albums, I hope you know that. she might have favorites (Red and folklore) but she definitely doesn't have a single record she isn't proud of, no matter how rarely she acknowledges some of her albums.

I’m not aware of what happened with that one on red tv but she should’ve kept in on there

But that's because Girl at Home was a random Target bonus track that was universally regarded as the WORST song Taylor ever released. So while yes, that one is the outlier in terms of the "copy cat" argument but there wasn't as much vitriol because generally speaking nobody gave a **** about GAH and Taylor reworking it only elevated the song and its standing amongst fans. For a STANDARD ALBUM TRACK, she shouldn't have changed a THING. This was a mistake

I think the problem here is everyone knows who the reference of the Song is so She doesn't want for that person articles everywhere about those lyrics again.

If the song would be generic and without a real reference people can recognize probably She would have made It the same as It was.

As if the door wasn't opened already with "Girl At Home". Besides, changing one line is not "changing the songs too much from the old ones".
