rac7d Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 The roof scene with the son made me cry the is a great film
X~MoviePoP Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Am i the only one who didnt buy charles meltons performance one bit. It felt forced and fake. Kinda how i hated florence pughs performance in little woman. 1 2
Archetype Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) I didn’t read anything about this movie before watching it, but it was very good. I think all three main characters did an excellent job. The scene between them at the graduation, oof. Also regarding Melton’s performance, I know a few people first hand who are very similar to his character. It felt very real to me. His general calmness, aloof nature, sort of… slow response to life, and then getting manipulated by someone else. Sort of fits the narrative of his wife being the predator in a legal and metaphorical sense (hunting since she was a child) and trapping her prey, but psychologically in his case. Honestly such good character development as we start to see him unraveling near the end and realizing he doesn’t understand himself nor trust his perception of his life. Almodusa Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I enjoyed this. Julianne and Natalie were great, they portrayed their characters really well. Charles was really good too, I felt that stunted growth aura he gave off. The twist of what kind of movie she was going to film at the end confirmed my suspicions that the filmmakers of this film knew how silly the zoom ins and use of the score were. They wanted to give off Lifetime/Hallmark/Tubi on purpose throughout the film. 2

I think that key moment in the roof is more grounded and real, and will help him.

I thought the twist was it was a porn0 they were filming at the end Spoiler There are some clues about the end product (her not having her big break prior, the director telling her about surpassing the budget). We’re made to think this is some prestigious Oscar-bait film, when the gag is that she did all of that method acting and meeting the family just for it to be a Lifetime type of film With her last line, while obviously creepy, makes it clear she really thinks she’s doing something with this Also Gracie watches a clip of a previously made TV movie of her relationship, so we’re led to believe this was going to be a step up from that 1

He was good for sure but I think the two female lead are spectacular so I didn’t expect all this praise for him….almaor seems like he’s getting more than the females but it’s prob because he comes from Riversale

A+ performances from the ensemble cast, particularly Charles Melton. What a glow-up from Riverstale! Natalie and Julianne were great too but I don't see them securing acting noms. Fleabag Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) This movie was absolutely amazing and thought provoking, I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after watching. The acting was phenomenal, I hope this movie is able to snag some big awards this season. 1 hour ago, Reverse Warholian said: And what was the significance of Julianne's lisp? Spoiler I took her lisp as a way to help highlight the naive and unassuming nature she strives to portray herself as to anyone that will allow her to. I think it enhanced the feeling we got as we watched that facade give way to her much darker true nature as Natalie's character explores her past and the movie progresses. The best example I can think of was her mask off moment at the end of the movie ("I'm a secure person"), I felt her lisp really added to the character in moments like these quite well. I think that three minute monologue secured at least a nomination. She's had my favorite performance for a lead actress this year tbh. I don't think she'll necessarily win, but I think she's cemented a spot in the race. Subtlety was really the name of the game in this one and both Natalie and Julianne devoured with Charles demonstrating some extensive chops as well
ctlp27 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Totally underwhelmed. This felt not necessary, unsubtil and déjà-vu (on the Hollywood criticism). Only Julianne Moore was great enough to keep me in, but after Carol, what a let down. I don't even understand the Award conversation surrounding this one tbh.
perfect blue Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Really did not care for this at all, sorry.
zoldyck Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Liked it, but something tells me I would have enjoyed it more as series. Maybe a campier season 2 with showing how movie was received, how family felt about movie, aftermath of movie getting released. It certainly left me wanting more but maybe it worked because they kept lot of things layered.
The Witch Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 This was kinda mid/cute???? I didn't loved it, I didn't hated it. Meh. The father-son roof scene and Natalie's monologue saved it @Reverse Warholian @Leptine

Bubble Tea Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Saw this months ago during a film festival but it certainly was a memorable film and superbly acted. Wasn't familiar with the male lead but he was spot on. I think the film poses very interesting questions about women in particular and how contemporary society can still easily be duped into perceiving the feminine to be softer and weaker when feminity can be cruel, wicked and deceitful.
barbiegrande Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Loved this movie. Charles Milton ATE that **** up.
