This feels like a mixtape (derogatory)

I am just listening (half way through) and came here to say exactly that.

I really love Solar Power and this is instantly giving me that same feeling. I want to listen to it whilst laying on a beach, breeze passing over my face, just soaking up summer.

Know Better is very good. Definitely the best song on the album.

It’s not bad… it’s not great

It’s just that this is the woman that made TAA and TEL :skull: we know she’s capable of making thrilling, groundbreaking work. So this feels very phoned in and not creative at all in comparison

I like the vibe, instrumentation and transitions. But the songs themselves need to grow on me

Float, Champagne, Eyes42 >>>

currently listened and this is def a day at the beach kind of vacation vibes but c’mon Janelle you know that you can be above such vapid music :lakitu:

I guess she just wanted to drop sumn for the summer :chick1:

but when you barely do music anymore and then decide to drop a summer playlist over making a proper body of work… :monkey:

this is a fun summertime album, nothing phenomenal but a consistent vibe throughout and i guess if you like that then this is for you!

This is sadly a big let down. Red Dry may be my fave after the first listen.

I love this album!! It's doing what its suppose to do - turning me into a slvt for the summer

Imagine comparing this to Solar Power :ahh:

You're right. Solar Power is so much better. :WAP:

This really could've been excellent if it wasn't so damn short :rip:

These song lengths are giving Pink Pantheress

I didn't even know she's releasing new album today.. seems kinda uneventful.

Phenomenal, Haute, The Rush, Paid in Pleasure my faves on initial listen

Can't wait to listen to this on a beach in warm weather!

Not her typical body of work but clearly a project of how she's feeling free and comfortable in her sexuality. An expression of herself that she wants to share before getting back to her storyline.

Phenomenal

Haute

Lipstick Lover

The Rush

Know Better (Love the subtle use of a fire sample)

Paid In Pleasure

Only Have Eyes 42

A Dry Red

Agreed with whoever said Champagne **** and Black Sugar Beach should've been one song cuz it was very unnecessary lol. I like this song but the need for a second track of it pissed me off lol.

I def understand what she's doing with this album. There's some cute jams on it but yeah, it definitely feels like a downgrade from her previous work.

Yeah if you remove the fact that this is Janelle Monae the brains behind Cindi Mayweather then this is actually a really damn good album if anyone else would have released this. One of my favs of the year actually.

In general, I haven't heard too many amazing albums this year lol. Maybe all of the heavy hitters are being saved for the back half of the year.

Just finished this. I liked it a lot (although I did enjoy Float and LL too so take that for what you will :thing:).
