Shallow by far. A global smash. Most likely biggest MPG song of all time in Europe + x1 Diamond in US.

Bigger classic and more remembered: Shallow by far (weddings, graduations, funerals, karaoke, singing competitions... a literal classic. WBT is kinda forgotten)

Better: We Belong Together

Shallow, the worldwide adored classic.

We Belong Together was local as ****, like 99% of Mariah's hits.

We Belong Together — 451.137.434 (+288.855) - This is NOT a classic.

WBT was a cute radio hit. It never reached #1 in sales and was outsold by songs like Hung Up and Pon De Replay, even in the USA. It’s doing less than 300k which is average or bad. Globally it made no noise outside the Anglo countries

One came out 5 years ago and the other one came out 18 years ago. Very Odd comparison

Erm, it was doing 350k daily pretty consistently for two months this year. It also charts regularly on the Apple Music main chart. It charted on Spotify for South Africa and the Philippines this year, it recharted in South Korea's main chart a couple of years ago.

It's also the most-certified female song from 2005 with regard to sales - literally more than Shallow despite being from different eras. And that's not true about no global noise - it was top ten across Europe and Latin America in addition to being a 14-week #1 in the US (and Song of the Year + Decade), #1 in Canada, #1 in Australia.

Shallow peaking 3-4 spots higher in a couple of small European markets means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, particularly when We Belong Together is still regularly discussed, consumed, and sampled nearly twenty years later.

---

Shallow was #19 on the year-end list and outsold by several songs that year. It didn't make the decade-end.

---

Screaming at comparing daily streams from a song from 2005 and one from 2018. Be for real for once.

Mariah dropped We Belong Together in a time it was easy to manipulate songs with radio PAYOLA, like all her forgotten and fraudulent singles from the 90s.

WBT ranks also higher in the US than GENUINE smash hits as Poker Face, Bad Romance, Just Dance due to the public's consumption. Doesn't mean sh**. The real smash hits are the ones that are DIAMOND certified.

Thank God, we have official charts and certifications to judge the global success of these songs.

This corny-ass trolling when WBT's success was not even radio-reliant or a time when it was easy to manipulate radio. She's out-streaming every single one of her peers in recurrent for a reason.

And as I said before, Shallow peaking a few higher in a couple of tiny European markets means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. The world is not limited to Western Europe and the US is a bigger music market than those combined (plus WBT did better in Asia). We're in a completely different sales climate that favors singles sales more than ever before and We Belong Together still out-certified/out-sold Shallow in the US to a point that rivals Shallow's global certifcaton figures. That's how huge it was (and continues to be charting on AM, doing 350k daily on Spotify, currently nearing a million TikTok vids).

And to show how little you actually know of charts - Canada Hot 100 didn't exist before 2007. They used RPM from 1964-2000 or the Nielsen chart starting in 1996. We Belong Together hit #1 on pop radio and in sales, the only existing main consumption charts at the time.

Mariah's global units without a single US sale put her as the 6th best-selling female ever WW (and are additionally above your fave's total, adjusted units)
