Me too but I wonder how much people can say since no video and apparently they had to sign NDAs

No phones, but there were no NDAs. Maybe those were just for the crew

she performed the whole album mostly in order but performed the 4 songs with strings first so the strings players only had to be on stage for that part

I tried typing out some descriptions of everything, but then struggled. Will list my favorites and can answer questions about any song to the best of my ability until people with more details come along

my favorites were LightHouse (the big emotional ballad of the project), Different Kind of High (a fun dance bop), the title track (she compared it to Be Still from MD), Red Flag Collector (had some country western sounds to start, feels a bit like her angry woman entry into the canon of songs like Before He Cheats), and I Hate Love (Steve wasn’t there but he plays banjo on it).

Sheila E was there for That’s Right which is a fun celebratory bop to end the album

Chemistry and Rock Hudson are probably the two clearest pop rock songs beyond Mine. But others definitely have a sort of rock/country blend on them

Also High Road is a cover of a song by her friend Rachel. Based on some light googling, I believe this is it, but I'm not 100% certain so don't hold me to it.

Thank you! Wasn’t I hate love supposed to be a punk rock song as she mentioned in the interviews?

It definitely has some of that, I guess I just defaulted to thinking of it as country since it has Steve Martin playing banjo on it, but it is definitely one of the angrier songs on the project.

Wow, good find, that’s definitely it! Kelly’s interpretation was quite different and was more rock-y.

edit: we were both wrong it’s Highroad by Jane Black.

@That Bad Eartha @Fortify We can’t wait for more details! Please give us a track-by-track breakdown. What are your opinions on the album? Did she play any old songs? Did she have to start over/do multiple takes on any? How much of a “storytelling” element was there? How long was it? Did the crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to Kelly? How was the experience overall?

Chemistry, if I remember correctly, was not pop rock. She compared it to be still from My December. That one is the Jeff Buckley-ish song and it was slow and acoustic-y with no big belts and just a slow vibe. Definitely the slowest song on the album.

We sang HBD twice, once during in between songs prompted by the fans, the last time at the end of the show and the band joined and they had a cake.

At the end she was like “I know I said I was only gonna do the new song but we got something for y’all” and did miss independent and SUBG with Sheila E too.

she restarted start this part like 3 times, it was the first song and it starts acapella but she nailed it at the end. She said something like “man I was fine during rehearsals…”

it was like 840-11ish by the time I got out (I also waited in the merch line at the end) and someone fainted and she stopped the show for a bit. The man was alright and a few of the fans there were doctors and rushed to help him.

the storytelling aspect was good, she talked about every song prior to signing it. Definitely helped going into the song knowing what she was thinking / feeling when she wrote the songs.

Idk if I’d say least favorite. It was definitely weird going into it not knowing any of the songs / lyrics but there’s a lot good going for it vocally. Most lyrics are pretty good, I Hate Love had some clunky ones “Love’s a *****, sorry momma” but others like Lighthouse were great lyrically “if the light house is burning out” and Rock Hudson has callbacks AIEW and PxP too. Red flag collector sounded the most unique and interesting, to me.

I wouldn’t it’s my favorite album of her upon first listen, but it’s definitely more pop rock than MoL. I hope that with the recordings I’ll learn to love it more.

The album is so varied and different song to song, I don’t blame people for being a little skeptical or unsure. I think even the songs people didn’t instantly vibe with will become growers with time. I think people have to remember is that this was such an unusual way to hear music for the first time, we aren’t able to re-listen and we’re relying on our memories which is hard! Also part of why people are having a hard time remembering is because she did the songs out of order, we did 3-4 songs with strings, then did another batch of songs, and then added Sheila E for the last song, Miss Independent, and SUBG.

She did talk about quite a few songs but half way through she got a note that she needed to talk less and gave only very brief intro to songs, lol. Like someone else said, she restarted Skip This Part twice because she cried and it messed her up vocally. She cried a few times (basically only during the string-section songs) and later said she was going to regret crying. She also called a few songs her favorite (and I think she knows that we’ve memed in the past about this because she said she told herself on the way down that she wasn’t gonna call any of the songs her favorite). It was a great experience but also it was a very long time to be standing, people were doing lots of stretches during the two breaks we had. Will do a write-up of the songs that I remember in a bit.

Thank you guys for the info! So excited!

"High Road" lyrics c/o Pulse

(the song is originally by Jane Black)

When I was young my father showed me

To become strong you had to only
Cover your fears, don’t show you’re lonely
Put others first before your own needs

It’s not all bad but I get lonely
And I get sad and I feel broken
If there’s no task I just assume one
I feel the burden
Perform for no one

I walk the high road where nobody else has trekked
I break my back on the things other people say
I’m getting tired always trying to do my best
When I don’t feel it, no I don’t feel it

And now I’m older
I’ve learned some lessons
To become stronger you have to listen
Keep it open, don’t try to hide it
And if you need love, don’t try to fight it

It’s not all bad but I get lonely
And I get sad and I feel broken
If there’s no task I just assume one
I feel the burden
Perform for no one

I walk the high road where nobody else has trekked
I break my back on the things other people say
I’m getting tired always trying to do my best
When I don’t feel it, no I don’t feel it

It’s just my ego and my pride
I live my life in disguise
And when I’m hurting it’s incognito
So everybody thinks I’m a hero

It’s not all bad but I get lonely
And I get sad and I feel broken
If there’s no task I just assume one
I feel the burden
Perform for no one

I walk the high road where nobody else has trekked
I break my back on the things other people say
I’m getting tired always trying to do my best
When I don’t feel it, no I don’t feel it

I walk the high road where nobody knows my name
I’m getting tired of playing these stupid games
I’m doing my best trying to keep the world afloat
But I don’t need this, no I don’t need this

I was there last night too!  Agree with all that has been said.  Super interesting to hear it all live but hard to fully digest all the sounds and lyrics in that kind of setting.  Early favs for me were Down To You, Favorite Kind of High, Lighthouse and My Mistake.

This is definitely the High Road song - only difference I can remember is she changed the opening line from father to mother.
