popularmoonlight Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 This topic is outdated but: Gaga doesn't want to be the new Madonna so there was nothing to ruin
Slap Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 (edited) The OP is a mess, she hasn’t taken any real breaks and her career is fine, but I really see Gaga as having more of a Cher type career than the next Madonna especially being more of an all round entertainer. Madonna is far bigger musically in terms of overall impact and longevity but her acting was literally never taken seriously or received well by the public in the way Gaga’s has. I’m not even going to comment on Madonnas stand up comedy Obviously early in her career she did resort to a lot of publicity stunts and courting controversy like Madonna and there was the Express Yourself fiasco but I think Gaga has since really carved out her own lane and unique identity as an artist and I don’t think she’s much like Madonna at all and I say that as a compliment to both of them. Lil Mxnster Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 (edited) Gaga is Gaga. Madonna is Madonna. They're both living legends! None wants to become the other. This thread feels outdated Edited February 4, 2023 by Lil Mxnster

Overall, Gaga's trajectory has been much more impressive simply because of the times we live in. Most of Madonna's (relevant) career existed before the advent of social media and the Internet in general. Madonna existed during a time when it wasn't easy to be replaced; once you staked your claim, you were on top for a very long time with little to no competition. The industry in which she thrived wasn't rapidly changing and she didn't have to struggle with the evolving technological world. It wasn't the same for Gaga (and her peers). She was at constant risk of being replaced or forgotten and the industry she had to battle changed from month-to-month. She had to learn how to use social media, she had to learn how to transition into the streaming world, and she had to fight the battle of short attention spans. And she did. And she succeeded. Overall, what really made it clear that Gaga had surpassed Madonna was the moment she won that Oscar and became a respected, acclaimed actress. That was something Madonna had tried to do for decades and never could. It showcased the true difference between the two: talent. Madonna is talented, obviously, but not in the way Gaga is. That is why now in 2023 Madonna is stuck resorting to the antics she has to resort to for attention (and is dancing to 11-year-old Lady Gaga songs on social media), whereas thirty years from now Gaga will remain a respected, successful actress and musician still doing whatever it is that fulfills her artistically. Wonderful way of putting it
Lead Cenobite Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Both bases need to let go of this feud. It's same old, same old. Both are irreplaceable and their own person. No one needs to be another one of the other nor does the catty remarks about talent and looks. Talk about embarassing.

She had a cute debut but her career rapidly nosedived into the pits of hell after BTW. The music quality was never at Madonna's level and only plummeted further with each subsequent release; the visuals had no real substance and were only propped up by empty theatrics that quickly wore thin; her performing ability never compared and the sales definitely did her no favours. GaGa wasn't a Madonna reborn so much as she was a hollow echo of the original. Oops.

If she's such an "acclaimed actress", why did she get snubbed at the Oscars recently? Why didn't she win the Oscar for Best Actress?

Viola David made all precursors this year and missed, the voting is becoming tactical (last year to make sure Cruz/Stewart got in, now the to Leslie mess). Gaga’s film was mixed, but the UK audience liked it - hence she was the lead star at the BAFTAs. point stands, thankfully she’s not like Madonna
