.Odyssey. Posted May 7 Posted May 7 It's so funny to me to read back real time reactions from opening night. So many people thought this show was a mess. I remember being at the show and opening ATRL and being just utterly shocked at how poorly it was being received with how incredible I thought it was in person. Glad (almost) everyone eventually came around. Finally having watched the Rio show a few times and let myself judge this tour against the rest with a professional recording... ...yeah, I think this was her best tour. She went out with everything she had to offer. 1

HonourableVomit Posted May 8 Posted May 8 I could understand complaining about the sequencing because sticking mostly to chronology isn't exactly the most exciting concept but it's nearly all smash hits, the actual songs chosen couldn't be much better. Anyone who complains about Bad Girl will be getting the guillotine btw. 1 1
.Odyssey. Posted May 8 Posted May 8 The issue with photos and video of the show was the lighting. That was a huge part of the show and was 1) way too grand to capture any of it on video and 2) it washed her and the show out a lot in pics, making it look cheap if not in person. 1 hour ago, HonourableVomit said: I could understand complaining about the sequencing because sticking mostly to chronology isn't exactly the most exciting concept but it's nearly all smash hits, the actual songs chosen couldn't be much better. Like, it would have made more sense to end the acoustic section with Die Another Day, and Hung Up should have been in the ROL section.

I see your point but I think the way she views the trajectory of her career differently to her fans, and probably isn't going solely off numbers or how we interpret media opinions at the time. It's more biographical in an emotional sense in that regard I think, rather than trying to just map events out and tie songs to them, so hung up on tokisha actually works great where it is imo. I would've loved another Confessions track (Jump lyrically works great in the motherhood section) but yeah the narrative is really quite linear I think so can understand people who know their madonna history predicting where it's going as soon as you hear the Everybody intro.

Yeah exactly! You actually just nailed the issue. If she didn't start off the first half of the show with that concept, then it would be fine, but it's jolting when Hung Up happens out of nowhere and then proceeds to be confusing to understand conceptually. It took me a few shows before it "clicked".

Venice B Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Got my hands on the audios ripped directly from the soundboard and The Beast Within sounds better than the official recording we got from the IGTYAS like

Not like I stopped being obsessed, but it's reaffirmed how much I loved it. Originally Vogue, Human Nature, Crazy for You was kinda jarring, but seeing it in the context of that section and thinking that CFY is kinda her love song to the gay community makes it one of my favorite parts. I knew Like A Prayer and La Isla Bonita were short, but seeing them both around 2 minutes on her GH tour sent me while Bad Girl got a 6 minute performance. She's so unserious sometimes.

Like a Prayer was performed during: Blond Ambition, RIT, Sticky & Sweet, MDNA, some Rebel Heart shows, Madame X= 5 or 6 tours (depending on the Rebel Heart shows you may have seen) La Isla Bonita was performed during Who's That Girl Tour, The Girle Show, Drowned World Tour, Confessions Tour, S&S Tour, Rebel Heart tour = 6 tours Bad Girl = 0 The Celebration Tour wasn's a GH tour in the typical sense. She included songs that were important for her story like Everybody (her first single) and Burning Up (her first actual song as a recording artist). Bad Girl made total sense where she put it and yes it deserved its full version 1

But if we compare gross per date RIT, Drowned World and Girlie Show are above it too.
