seancarter Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 why was no one talking about handstand and muddy feet ? THEY ARE MASTERPIECES
CottageHore Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 My first impressions that nobody asked for: 1. Flowers: in context of the album, I like it more. Such a groove, I fear! 7/10 2. Jaded: Breakout-era vibes, but more refined and mature. The chorus is great and I’m always gonna stan when Miley belts with her new raspy timbre. I get why people say this should’ve been the second single but it’s also not THAT great. 8/10 3. Rose Colored Lenses: I actually really liked this one. Super vibey, breezy, and nice very subtle production details throughout, including the synthesized electric guitar buried in the back of the outro, proving that this will be an album that becomes more full over time. I’m realizing the vibe this record is going for, thanks to this song. 8.5/10 4. Thousand Miles: kind of boring throughout, but the plucky steel guitar in the chorus is beautiful and I love the organic sound she’s going for. The outro is experimental with those edited vocalizations from Miley, I loved that part. 8/10 5. You: it really did get the How To Disappear treatment and that’s good because it would be boring without it. The lyrics on this one are great, though. The chord progression is just very overdone, we’ve all heard a song like this before. 7/10 6. Handstand: I looooove the experimentation here. It’s got a trippy element to it and the production is very cool and dreamy. Reminds me of Robyn’s “Honey” album. Definitely a glorified interlude though, which is annoying. When that beat kicks in- WHEW! I appreciate what she’s doing here though. It feels conceptual. 9/10 7. River: ya’ll said the verses and pre-chorus were GOOD? Uh, where? This song sounds like another glamorized interlude. It goes nowhere and it lacks a melody. The bridge is the only redeeming part of this song…… I truly can not conceptualize why the **** they’d ever choose this as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th… 8th single. The GP will not like this, I fear. But I can see this growing on me and watch me have it as my #1 in a month or two. 5/10 8. Violet Chemistry: I like the verses here and the production choices are really cool. Mike WiLL did slay, I fear. Why her lower octave is the lead vocal in the chorus I do not understand. She should’ve been belting here but the synths that come in halfway through the chorus add a dreamy quality. This is vibey, I like it but it could’ve been better. This would’ve made a way better single than River, but even then- it’s lacking something. 8/10 9. Muddy Feet: now wtf is this? The mixing is God awful. Might I say- muddy, I fear? This sticks out like a sore thumb. Every other song is at least cohesive to the rest. This one isn’t it and Sia adds nothing. Yikes. 4/10 10. Wildcard: this one is interesting. The production choices are cool and it goes places melodically I wasn’t expecting. It’s not as predictable as some of the other songs here. She’s serving vocals in the chorus and sounds incredible, but when does she not? 8/10 11. Island: oooooh omg I love this! The beat is so good and groovy. Y’all were saying this was the worst and most forgettable? The delusion. I love this. It’s giving me 90s Sade mixed with some Shania Twain during her Come On Over era. Reminds me of Bottom of the Ocean. I love this. Perfect for a beach day, specifically as the sun is setting during golden hour. BREEZY AF 9.5/10 12. Wonder Woman: definitely going to get a LOT of comparisons to Angel - Sarah McLachlan. I feel this would’ve been the best second single choice. It’s the most GP-friendly one here and she needs another ballad hit. She sounds incredible and the melody is simple yet beautiful. WHEW! That second chorus, she ATE those vocals up! 9/10 OVERALL: This is her most cohesive and refined album to date. The whole thing is a vibe and she delivered it well. The production is great and is most similar in style to Dead Petz (minus the tasteless lyrics and messy mixing, excluding you- Muddy Feet) and Younger Now. Ironically, those are my two least favorite Miley albums yet this one is miles above them. I’m not blown away but I do know each song will grow on me a lot. There’s actually a lot of unconventional melody and production choices going on here so I’m excited to see how this grows on me as I dive into them more. 7/10. Her second best album. Plastic Hearts, you will ALWAYS be that girl.

CottageHore Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Not my two faves, Platinum Crested Lenses and Island(ed in paradise) being the most hated and forgotten here. See, when you’re a genius, you’re misunderstood.

I feel like the majority of this record is MEANT for the beach. I can’t wait to vibe to this when I visit the exotic tropics of Destin, FL for Spring Break next month
ChrisTheLoner Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) Gonna repost my review with rankings Flowers - Amazing lead single and entrance to the era and it fully symbolizes Miley's comeback and return to form 10/10 Jaded - A chill but laid back bop, her vocals snappedT on this one 9/10 Rose Colored Glasses - LOVEEEE this one, another chill but really fun bop and the title track 10/10 Thousand Miles - This one is quite different sounding but cute regardless 8/10 You - Another one where her vocals really shine through 8.5/10 Handstand - Another one I absolutely ADORE You.mp3 This is the one that was in the album trailer. The instrumental and lyrics are EVERYTHING! Definitely in my trinity 10/10 River - LOVEEEEE the electropop vibe this one has, very different from the rest of the album so far but it SNAPS Another one in my top 3 and someone said it sounds like something off of Bionic and I have to agree (Love that album) The video also ATEEEE and she served SEX 11/10 Violet Chemistry - Such a fun bop which also kinda has an electro vibe to it which I totally LIVE for. The chorus is where she really SnappedT on this song This is my favorite off the album 11/10 Muddy Feet - This was surprisingly very good, wasn't expecting much with the Sia feature but they both ATE The instrumental on this one is superb and I'd argue this one is top 5 on the album Also love Sia's adlibs at the end 9/10 Wildcard - a more chill song compared to previous songs but at the same time bop type song, the instrumental and her vocals are the main takeaways with this one 9/10 Island - a very chill bop and totally fits the title of the song, very islandly feel on this track I love the chorus in this one, the lyrics and her voice go so well with the instrumental 9/10 Wonder Woman - I was a bit taken a back at there being a ballad on this album after listening to the rest of it. A very beautiful song though and I absolutely love her vocals on this one and it's a great closing track. Miley truly is a wonder woman releasing this amazing album 8.5/10 This is definitely my favorite Miley album now ( Plastic Hearts but ESV ATE you up) with Plastic Hearts as a close second. I would say this is her most cohesive body of work while still having different sounds for each of the songs. This will go down as a classic album methinks Overall ranking definitely an 11/10 No songs under 8/10 Edited March 10, 2023 by ChrisTheLoner
PurrKaty Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Rose Colored Glasses and Island give me such vibes
Walk_Away21 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 The intro to River just SCREAMS classic to me. Like the kind of intro a bar that hosts trivia night will play in 20 years for the question where you have to guess the song.
PurrKaty Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 So excited to listen to this all day tomorrow. My fav album released in 2023 so far
AccioMiley Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 This album is pure excellence. Point blank period. I dont wanna hear the whining of ATRL's snobbiest users bitching and moaning. mother is here to MOTHER and that is THAT
Abracadabra Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Yeah this album is amazing, some of you girls are on crack
CottageHore Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Ope not River already growing on me when I trashed it not 10 minutes ago Definitely getting strong Nelly Promiscuous/Say It Right vibes. The video could’ve been better though and that chorus is boring but whew! This album is truly a GROWER, not a shower- my favorite kind of album, I fear

Those verses are a bit clunky but I’ll be back in 5 minutes with an update when I’ve realized they’re the best part of the song and that River is song of the year
Dystopian Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 it's literally a matured and polished up dead petz all i've ever wanted from her island, handstand and violet chemistry are the holy trinity. the only dud is wonder woman.
Seffers Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 album is really solid overall - lots of highs, favs are Handstand, Jaded, River, Island, and Rose Colored Lenses although I feel like a few songs have weird (intentional?) vocal mixings
