wait i love being proved wrong hold on :ryan3:

I would say JYP is probably the company with the most diverse sound and concepts between their roster:

Stray Kids = Noisy - rap focused

TWICE = Pop and retro with an elegant concept  (for now)

ITZY - Teen Crush - dance focused

NMIXX = Mixxpop - vocal focused

NiziU = cute concept (basically old TWICE)

Xdinary Heroes = Rock

But its midnight. Its bizarre regardless :rip:

K-POP releases up until like 2017 or 2018 used to normally be at midnight on Mondays in Korea (so like in New York, it would be 12PM or 11AM on a Sunday) because they were targeting Korean music shows primarily.

Things only changed when companies started targeting American Billboard instead.

Born To Be is not good. With that said, if it was released under the name "aespa" this thread would be stanning.

They would never release anything like this to begin with

Now JYP (NexZ), SM (NCT New Team) and Hybe (&Team) all have their own Japanese boy groups to compete in the Japanese market.

Johnny's has kind of crumbled in a lot of ways. It's now called STARTO Entertainment (+ SMILE-UP which is the compensation company in charge of reparations to the victims). But lots of people are leaving.

Still, there are other Japanese teams made by Kpop companies, notably Mnet with JO1 and INI.

There are also other non-KPOP Japanese boy groups like Be:First (from SKI HIGH), and not to mention all the LDH groups.

And certain Johnny's groups like Snowman and Naniwadanshi are still going strong with their fanbase.

I really have no idea what's going to happen.

When the best part about a kpop song is the rap part, you know it's not good. Chorus is awful. :deadbanana4:

They look good while dancing, maybe they should release dance videos without the audio. :cm:

The last Japanese boy group to really be huge with the Japanese general public was Arashi. They dominated for at least a decade before going officially on hiatus (now some of them are married and have kids and stuff). They weren't just a boy group but they were all over the entertainment scene as actors, personalities etc.

You don't really have any boy group with that impact anymore. Hirano Sho could have gotten there but after he left King & Prince, Johnny's basically blacklisted him. The newer boy groups won't have that chance to ascend to those heights because Johnny's has rightfully collapsed as an entertainment company.

But aside from huge groups like Arashi or SMAP back in the day, boy groups have mostly survived on enormous fanbases, much like everywhere else.

The thing about the scene now is that K-POP has really taken over in huge ways. Groups like &Team, NEXZ and NCT New Team don't have to just fight other Japanese boy groups for Japanese fans' attention, they also have to fight regular KPOP groups like Seventeen and Stray Kids who are massive over there. I mean Seventeen being invited to Kohaku this year is....like literally insane.

In terms of general public though, I don't think there's any boy group the public really cares about. It'll be the non-idol acts that have their attention.
