Just saw a viral Facebook post of someone claiming a 26 year old shouldn't date a 18 year old because they're a "kid" & then it got messy in the comment section with ppl arguing, some calling ppl pedophiles

 

First off, don't know why she chose 26 years specifically like she was speaking from personal experience.....

 

I didnt necessarily agree with her, just wondering what's the oldest age limit ATRL thinks is morally ok

 

For me I'd say closer to 30 would make it more odd. 26 is ok to me, but around the upper limit. And as long as you met at 18, not waited for them specifically to turn that age.

I would personally say 22 is the ideal upper ceiling, and 23 is somewhat pushing it.

 

Obviously, you can't tell people who to date but if the older person was 23+, I would maybe want to let the younger person know there are safe options outside of the relationship to turn to if they feel uncomfortable. I think it's weird if you knew them as a teenager and you were already like over 20 at the time.

There’s not really an exact science to measure this sort of thing… it depends on the person, you’re legally an adult at 18 and can sleep with/date whoever you want to.

 

That being said, I personally think 25 is probably the oldest you can go before it looks odd/problematic.

Seriously though, i think it depends and can be looked at on a case by case basis. Depends on the energy the older person is giving also.

If you’re a senior in college or out of college, you should not be dating an 18-year old.

I turn 26 in a few days and I would never meet up with an 18 year old boy that would just be weird behavior IMO. I look at the 24 year olds on grindr and get creeped out 

 

I think 21 is the upper limit for an 18 year old. You can be an 18 year old freshmen in college dating a 21 year old senior I guess. But with that being said why would a college senior want to date a freshmen who still has 4 years of school to finish.

I'm gonna say 23 is the limit. But personally I would never have dated an 18 year old when I was 23

 

Once someone is over 21 I think the age range of their dating pool should be able to expand if they please, but if we're talking about teenagers it's different. They're still kids in so many ways

Being younger makws you more susceptible to coercive pressures regarding sex that can leaf you down a dark path.

 

But sex in and of itself isnt going to magically damage the brain of a 18 yo individual when they have it... not if theyre legitimately horny and theyre having it consensually with someone theyre legit attracted to

Its still weird but I think people don’t care when a 21+ yo dates older.

 

That [18-21] range you’re still a kid finding yourself, relying on your parents, etc. Most 21+ people date them to take advantage or use them unless you live in a small town and theres no one else to date.

Generally speaking I think dating in your college cohort is fair game, but seniors who have a habit of going after freshmen should be viewed with suspicion.

Yeah. I downloaded Grindr when I was 18. I was still in high school but wanted to find a guy who was 18/19/20 for an innocent date. I was extremely naïve at the time and had grown men specifically targeting that innocence. The amount of grown men who messaged me was disturbing.

After I turned 21, the thought of dating someone even 2 years younger than me gave me the ick. In most cases, there is a big power imbalance with a 22 year old dating an 18 year old.
