30 is a solid album with some real career highlights but don't act as if Midnights isn't much bigger. Midnights will surpass '30''s total in America units in less than two weeks. Same globally. And she will still have all of December after that. Grammys promo. The tour. It's going to more than double 30's units in the long-run.

But nah in all seriousness, I expected better numbers for both this week. Obviously Midnights numbers are insane, I just kinda expected around 225k for it (and Drake’s album) both this week. Kinda insane then that she did lower than we expected yet still is way above him. Even more insane that Midnights is smashing so hard that 190k in its fourth week is kinda below what most of us predicted this week  

If we remove that insane TEA()last week 190k seems like a good drop 

 

 

OT: I'm so happy cuz I really thought he would steal more of her easy no.1 weeks 

So glad she kept her no.1 on Hot100 and Artist 100 last week

Hopefully the album stays no.1 throughout the rest of the year.

Please no more competitions

Looking at this Bruce Springsteen numbers make me realize how most of our older faves will flop with their next new studio albums: Madonna, Mariah, Janet, etc 

He was doing relatively the same numbers as Madonna (without ticket bundles) when they release around the same time and now...35k debut is not what i expected tbh.

Usually the veteran male rock acts do big pure sales numbers. And of course they pull in some of the biggest tour numbers.

a few legacy acts have crossed 100k in sales post-bundles: paul mccartney, ac/dc.

 

though sales are even worse now than 2 years ago in general.

 

interesting tidbit given how people were acting like taylor invented variants:

McCartney III’s robust sales were aided by its availability across many CD and vinyl LP editions, including versions with alternative cover art or colored vinyl. The album was issued in more than 10 vinyl variants.

Power Up’s sales were assisted by some retailer exclusive editions, vinyl variants and an elaborate limited edition deluxe CD package.

Not necessarily. Springsteen’s new record is a Motown cover album, so not exactly a regular release. He’s also going on tour next year, and we all know he’s a touring giant. If he decides to release a new studio album next year, I fully expect he’ll debut in the top five easily. Same goes for Madonna.

The only week that makes sense is 12/30. If she releases it any other week in December, she’s going to get eaten up by the Christmas songs. Only Taylor Swift (evermore) can get away with releasing an album in the Christmas season.

Was this Fearless’s week before Christmas?  I know it was big out of the gate but I thought Speak Now was bigger at first,

The Top 10 during Christmas season tends to be filled with Christmas albums, as well as albums that have great sales. That’s why Sour was ahead of Dangerous and stayed in the Top 10 last Christmas season. Unless you’re an artist that sells very well (Taylor, Olivia, Nicki, BTS, Harry), it’s not really worth it to release during the Christmas season.
