wwshooter Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 The melody is beautiful and Rihanna’s tone is mazing. I honestly think it will perform much better, if the last 1/3 to 1/2 is cut off. It feels dragging at that point

She still has Super Bowl tho, I’m sure she will still smash with a lead single if she decides to release. Plus, Rihanna has never been about her debuts anyway. Her hits rise relatively quick after release and last quite a while. She’ll be fine.

It has a bigger push than pretty much every lead single. Its really confusing why they would push a song like this so hard. It wont go anywhere

Paola Bracho Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 People act as if the millions of playlists can do wonders for a song regardless the song which we all see isn't happening. Maybe you should all change your narrative!

He disguises himself as a Gaga stan disguised as Beyoncé stan. I LOVE how every Britney delulu has a different urban legend about me Keep the obsession going i guess Anyway, we're here to discuss new Rihanna anticipated release so enjoy your WP

305 Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 That drop was beyond expected. Idk how that prediction at #2 wasn't trolling, I'll be surprised if it even goes top 10. It will only continue to free fall

I promise absolutely none of them streamed lift me up and then said “hmm but this isn’t the lead for r9” That’s exactly what happened tho. The title literally reads “Rihanna - Lift Me Up (From Black Panther Wakanda Forever). You guys can read stats so well but not the room.

The soundtrack along with the first movie was a big success, 'All the Stars' got several Grammys nominations and an Oscar one, it made sense that they tried to push this hard in order to have the same result (and even better charts wise) considering this is also the first Rihanna music release after a long hiatus, but reality is that it's difficult make a soundtrack song a hit (and impossible immediately) despite ATRL spending the last 4 years dismissing 'Shallow' success.
Bhabylon Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 She just needed to come back with a proper song. She's capable of making great ballads, but this one is a bit generic She'll smash with the right song
Green Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 US #17 (-13) 1,119,705 Welp The predictions will probably be down to #5 on the Hot 100 now It's also falling on Apple Music Apple 7. Rihanna - Lift Me Up (From Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Music From and Inspired By) -6
liquiddiamonds Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 The song is not what people expected nor wanted from rihanna, but maybe it will have a second wind when the movie debuts worldwide. She has two songs in it too. I say maybe because Hold My Hand was an example of a song that was made to be the hit of a soundtrack but audiences chose another one (this is not a gaga drag) She hasnt wasted her hype. Keep in mind that Anti had American Oxygen, FourFiveSeconds and BBHMM before Work and all of them performed poorly at first for her comeback standards, with the latter two later on becoming sleeper hits and deserved classics in her catalogue. You never know with Rihanna
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 oh this is really not going #1 after all. we need to be lucky with a top 10 at best thats quite a dip in streams for day 2.
Mark Rih Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I agree that the 'sountrack' excuse doesn't work with a song that's being pushed like LMU (even tho it's still a different thing from a proper lead). The song is quite alright and will probably fit in the movie, but it just doesn't sound like a hit.. it's not catchy and it's way too slow even for a ballad. I guess they tried to capitalize on it being Rihanna's first song in several years, but if they really wanted to get a hit.. well, they picked the wrong song Anyway it's fun to see some of y'all already calling Rih a 'former streaming monster' and such. If anything, the first day numbers showed her power. Time will be the ultimate truth teller as usual
FightDragonsWithMe Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I mean this is clearly a soundtrack song so ofc the hype isn't going to correlate to her actual lead single release. I personally just find the song rough to listen too and think it's hella borihng.

Protocol Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 Rihanna never had huge debuts, she was always a GP artist that relied on airplay and TV promo for her singles to blow up. The only time she had a big first week digital sales without repressing the single for weeks/months was "Only Girl in the World" which was coming right after "Rude Boy" and "Love the Way You Lie" smashed. Other than that her singles never had huge debuts without being repressed on digital after being sent to radio. So this is no different, it will go down the charts and then if radio picks it up and playlists pick it up (the new radio) it will rebound. The melody is gorgeous and even though it doesn't sound like a current hit, the unexpected smashes of the past year have shown the public have an appetite for new sounds at the moment. You never know what could become a hit.
