It is kinda true but I really don't perceive him as a pathetic villain. He obviously isn't the most evil character but... it felt a bit too much in my opinion. Like, writting a whole song for Peach, training to propose to her, etc... :dies:

Ngl the song bit felt off to me, it was so random and didn't really fit into that story. I wish they had given more of a backstory about his love for Peach and their history. The proposal was right in line with Odyssey if you played it, even his outfit was straight out of the video game.

I played almost every single Mario game that’s been made lol.

I agree with you the song felt off and yeah they could have explained from where his obsession with Peach comes from. I also would have loved Bowser Jr to be in the movie especially since he considers Peach as his mother.

Officially the highest-grossing videogame movie ever. Make sure to thread it :clap3:

I don’t usually watch this kind of animated movie, but honestly I thought this was totally fine, like if you go in with reasonable expectations then the movie will probably end up delivering what you hoped for. Definitely a case of reviewers being out of touch and going in looking to be overly critical. Obviously not a mind blowing film but it’s a fun animated family movie that did what it needed to pretty much. There were some aspects that were surprising and that I enjoyed, such as Peach high key being the MVP and real hero of the movie, they did a good job fleshing out her character. They’ve got a lot of room for potential follow ups, and a lot of unused characters and settings to work with, so a sequel could potentially be even better.

The mods won't allow it.

They merged every single Mario-related thread (box office, Rotten Tonatoes...) with the main movie thread :biblio:. I asked why and they didn't even bother to answer :ace: .

And they still wonder why the forum is dying...

It’s exotic in Asia to have blue eyes and/or blond hair. I always thought it had something to do with helping their eyes pop, too, before games got the ability to be HD.

I need them to copy Marvel and give us an online of the Nintendo Cinematic Universe. We need a new Nintendo movie every 14 months :jonny5:

Don't worry some of them are just wearing contact lenses. Lugi should try some green ones to match his outfit

Fascinating. You should write an Oscar winning comedy film.

Deadline upgraded their 2nd weekend projections (again).

Projecting it to beat the record of "best second weekend ever for an animated movie at the domestic box office" with $87M. Previous record holder was Frozen II ($85.9M).

SATURDAY PM: There was a thought for a moment by distribution sources that Super Mario Bros Movie would be front-loaded — during its opening weekend, and in its second weekend. Boy, was that theory wrong. The Illumination/Universal/Nintendo feature take of the hit 1980s videogame is posting the best second weekend ever for an animated movie at the domestic box office with $87M, repping a great -41% hold off of a huge Easter weekend. That figure defeats the previous second weekend record for an animated movie held by Disney’s Frozen II ($85.9M). Super Mario Bros. jumped 75% between its second Friday of $22.6M and Saturday of $39.5M. Total running cume by EOD Sunday is $347.8M.

It's playing like a family film - rather than a frontloaded, fan-driven superhero movie.

It’s multi generational too which is why it’s smashing so hard :jonny:

I wonder if 2B is possible at this point

So what's the likeliness of it passing Frozen?

I think it most definitely will, it’s got no serious competition till guardians at the beginning of May. Even then It’s a multigenerational movie that appeals to all ages given how long Mario has been around for and the cultural impact it’s had on the entertainment industry for the best part of 42 years, kids playing Mario when it first came Out are taking their kids to go see it now. It has great replay value too which helps.

I even think it has a chance to hit 2 billion, a small chance but anything is possible.

Domestically it's guaranteed.

Worldwide depends on how it does in Japan & South Korea. If it breaks out there, it has a shot. Otherwise it's unlikely.
