this is a weird comparison.

katy and ariana are from different generations, so to certain people katy is the bigger household name while ariana is to others.

 

i personally enjoy katy's discography more.

- Ariana bigger household name since the back half of the 2010s (that will only be solidified when Wicked gets released while Katy continues to be chained to American network talent shows, Vegas residences that struggle to sell out their nights and Just Eat adverts). 
 

- Ariana objectively has a more timeless and diverse discography that’s won critical acclaim. Even in the era of poptimism Katy’s music is still largely derided with the only outlier being Teenage Dream (the song).

 

- Ariana can still claim Billboard and pop radio hits, albums that open above 100k and has far greater touring demand. Not to mention starring roles in major Hollywood movies in the coming years.

 

Katy unfortunately is becoming a memory holed relic of popular culture and has yet to leverage nostalgia / poptimism to her advantage, instead leaning fully into her clown persona and letting herself be a joke for anyone willing to cut a high enough cheque. Sad really.
