GROUP A CRITIQUES - LUCKYFORK

 

Aaliyah - Read Between The Lines:  I... don't know what to say honestly, I guess this was just okay to me? I enjoyed the groove and the melody is quite catchy but I'm not super crazy about it, I guess this will be quite middling at the end 

 

Nicki Minaj - Get On Your Knees (feat. Ariana Grande): I'm sorry but absolutely not love, I have always disliked this song quite a lot, it really has absolutely nothing interesting going on for it and it kinda goes nowhere, none of them do anything remarkable on this and it's their worst collaboration by FAR, sorry

 

TLC - I'm Good at Being Bad: this was fine, it's pretty funsy and boppy, I don't know where I'll end up ranking this but overall I can say I enjoyed it a bit

 

LOONA - Where you at: okay miss Loonarrrr, honestly they're pretty hit or miss with me but this was definitely a very cute song, I very much prefer these chill and nice cutesy songs over the noisy over-produced messes they also attempt sometimes, leave those to SHITZY!

 

ABBA - Slipping Through My Fingers: aurkay...? I mean, this is definitely a super odd choice, I love me some ABBA and this is definitely a nice song but I really don't know how it will end up doing in my ranks, good luck!

 

Hikaru Utada - Somewhere Near Marseilles: I find this song MASSIVELY overrated, after listening to it a couple of times since my first listen (I hated it on first listen) I can definitely say it's not horrible and the production is nice but like... 12 minutes? really?  

 

India Shawn - TO CHANGE MY MIND: no thoughts just vibes, this was cute! I enjoyed this album when I listened a couple days ago, don't think this was a standout to me but her voice is stunning, songs like this can get boring if not done right but the melody is gorge enough to keep me interested

 

Chairlift - I Belong In Your Arms: CAUSE IIIII BEEELONGGGGG IN YOUR ARRMMMMMSSSSSSSSSSSS  Heartstopper rewatchings tonight mhm, this song is so euphoric and fun and it makes me feel cute things, I really don't have anything bad to say

 

Kali Uchis - Your Teeth In My Neck:  ouuuu I hadn't listened to this in ages, this album was IT back when it came out, now it's just okay to me but I certainly still enjoy it, and apparently this song is still very good so yas

 

Ms. Lauryn Hill - To Zion (feat. Santana): okay eat! the vocals and the guitar are slaying me, this song is very good although it felt a bit long, that outro did absolutely nothing for me tbh but I don't think it took anything away from the enjoyment of the song for me, slay!

 

BANKS - This Is Not About Us: ughhhh she was so mother back then, The Altar is my fave album by her and this is definitely one of the best songs on the album, it still knocks quite hard to this day, I wish she didn't mega suck now... fly high angel <3

 

Daya - Keeping It In the Dark: this was extremely bland for the most part, I enjoyed the chorus a bit more than the rest of the song but overall it left no impression on me and I don't think I will ever want to listen to this again even though I usually like her music

JoJo - Think About You: Meh, it’s alright but doesn’t do anything for me. Not something I would ever listen to actively, her sound has become quite watered-down

 

Lil Nas X - Tales Of Dominica: Terrible like everything else on this album, he should retire and start designing visuals for better artists

 

HAIM - Send Me Down: Did OP sneak this one in too? I love HAIM but this feels like a rough draft for what their sound would become (which makes since given the track is from their debut EP), it’s just fine. The chorus is sort of there at least

 

Taylor Swift - Dancing With Our Hands Tied: A bit of a classic, the production has this dynamic, splashy sound to it that I always loved. I just hate that stupid color metaphor she makes in the first verse, come up with something else

 

India Shawn - Caught In The Middle: This ASC fave making her way into VL, I like it! Not really my absolute favorite from her but the vocal performance here is admirable

 

Lauryn Hill - Can't Take My Eyes Off of You: Definitely a good, enjoyable listen. Love the vocal melody here

 

Nabiha - Sound of My Gun: (Going off the live version since it's all I can find - I'll update this if I ever get to hear the studio) Cool, I like her energy

 

Kali Uchis - In My Dreams: Not generally into her but this one is really pleasant. I would prefer it with a more suitable vocalist but the fuzzy sounding electronic influence gives this legs, very good!

 

Marina - The State Of Dreaming: This was one of my favorite songs in middle school, the production and some of the vocal editing aged but the chorus is still quite striking

 

Rico Nasty - One On 5: Not one of my faves on this album but still pretty good. The verses and her rapping are the best part, the chorus just drags it a little

 

Ava Max - Born To The Night: I probably seem like such a basic ****** stanning all these Ava songs but y'all keep sending the best ones... yeah this is her best song and is better than Gaga's career

 

Shura - What Happened To Us: Probably her best song too, or at least one of them. Has a really singalongable chorus and glistening production

 

BoA - Dress Off: Okay… I can enjoy some trashy 2000’s Electropop so I’ll say I liked a couple elements in the production here, won’t be putting it at the bottom. But it’s definitely not amazing and certainly an interesting choice sjdjfj

Lil Nas X - Tales Of Dominica - hmm, it's alright. there were some other songs on his album i enjoyed more but this isn't bad.

HAIM - Send Me Down - i'm not really a HAIM fan sorry :c they have a few songs i like somewhat but this isn't one of them. i think im just not a fan of their style/voices overall. the instrumental is kinda overpowering at times in an annoying way too.

Taylor Swift - Dancing With Our Hands Tied - a nice song <3 the vibe of the song is fantastic and a sound that fits Taylor very well.

India Shawn - Caught In The Middle - pretty boring to me. just feels very flat.

Aaliyah - Read Between The Lines: Solid ig but not one of the stronger songs on this album

 

Nicki Minaj - Get On Your Knees: The way she never changed the Katy Perry lyric from the original feature is funny. Lazy ass lyricist… anyways it’s cute, doesn’t really fit Ariana’s voice and the production is very 2014 but it’s catchy enough and Nicki’s verses are decent

 

TLC - I'm Good At Being Bad: Pretty good. I like all the ways it diverges from itself

 

LOONA - Where You At: CLASSIC! This is their best ballad, they’re one of the only K-Pop groups that has really pulled them off for me, I love it, so ethereal

 

ABBA - Slipping Through My Fingers: I’m sorry but I hate literally everything about this

 

Hikaru Utada - Somewhere Near Marseilles: Agreeable background music, the length is warranted for the type of music it is I suppose

 

India Shawn - To Change My Mind: Her voice is nice as usual, I guess her best songs were singles nn which makes sense but I still like it

 

Chairlift - I Belong In Your Arms: Caroline jumpscare + hate the mixing, would be a loot better with that improved

 

Kali Uchis - Your Teeth In My Neck: Another one of Kali’s good songs! A nice groove and her voice, which I usually have some qualms with, works REALLY well here

 

Lauryn Hill - To Zion: Good, chorus wears a bit + outro is unnecessary, definitely don’t think it needed to be six minutes but well it is an album track from the nineties. I do like it

 

Banks - This Is Not About Us: Don’t like this. It’s not really awful but I just can’t find anything about it I enjoy y’know

 

Daya - Keeping It In The Dark: Never heard this one, was a little wary especially given it’s a 13RW soundtrack song but it’s kinda cute? The chorus is fun!

 

Hilary Duff - Breathe In Breathe Out: When Taylor ripped this off lmao… for a reason! It’s such a cute harmless bop. She’s so basic and personalityness to me that she works best with music fitting to that persona, which this is. Yup yup faceless pop. Also the lyrics are funny and sound like they were still made for her being on Disney sjdhg “I had too much to dream and I was high on your caffeine”?

Not an Aaliyah song I'm that familiar with, it's fine, kinda repetitive but it's Aaliyah, so it's got a good vibe

 

Nicki Minaj - Get On Your Knees
Much better than Bed at least, I love getting on my knees as well, I love being pandered to

 

TLC - I'm Good At Being Bad
It's cute, I love TLC, but mainly their singles, didn't leave a big impression, but it's not bottom tier

Very lovely and pleasant

You're lucky I like this album and have heard this before, I would not enjoy too many 12 minute songs

Another good, not great, India entry, she's very adequate for these games

It's a cute lovey dovey song, I like it, Heartstopper did that

 

Kali Uchis - Your Teeth In My Neck
this is great, one of her best songs for sure

 

Lauryn Hill - To Zion
Oh wow Ms. Lauryn again, our ears are blessed this round, Santana is very talented as well

 

Banks - This Is Not About Us
Oh this is from when she made good music, it's a nice choice for the round, I was boppin a little

 

Daya - Keeping It In The Dark
This was fine, it was a little bland, not memorable, would probably not revisit

 

Hilary Duff - Breathe In Breathe Out
Yas basic generic pop my favorite genre. Hilary has much better and worse, this is cute though, I liked the X marks the spot part
