slur topic aside, after reading like half the thread, some people here have serious comprehension problems…

I understand and appreciate where he's coming from but he could have made his point without saying the actual slur 7 times :deadbanana2:

Like I fully comprehend the message, but anyone acting like queer people aren't allowed to be offended are just being ridiculous.

:rip: I love Kendrick and don't think this is CaNCeLlAbLe!!!!! but he honestly didn't need to say the word that many time s to make his point even if I personally don't mind it.

At the end of the day, he could have been pro-LGBT without giving his overwhelmingly cishet male fanbase an implicit cue to use the slur which is the most dangerous thing of all.

He's gonna have stadiums full of hetero cis people screaming a homophobic slur 4 times in a row.

And if they absorb the message of the ******* song it will all be worth it

Again gay men feel the need to insert themselves into everything

The song is literally about the LGBT community and the topic of conversation is his use of the f slur…. :deadbanana4:

is this the first time this has been acknowledged in atrl?

ATRL does not want to acknowledge that for obvious reasons

I bet if it's Gaga or Doja saying the ***  these people will be "Yassss Queen, call me the ***"

The pearl clutching over the possibility of some fans screaming f****t during a few finite tour dates rather than understanding the potential for discourse and permanent growth amongst those with less tolerance.. just missing the forest for the trees so many of you.

Beautiful song. Brilliant album.

of course the white gays that don’t listen to rap music outside of doja cat think this is offensive.

You thought you did something here, but this has nothing to do with race. Like, literally nothing.

@Bloo @MissedTheTrain are comments like this allowed? Genuine question, because I’ve seen multiple of them in this thread (and they’re a common talking point in other threads too). I can bring this to HQ to not disrupt the discussion if needed, but stuff like this needs to stop because it serves no purpose other than further demonize a portion of a minority, especially when several black gay users have expressed their disapproval on the topic at hand.

Comments of this nature have been warned. This post is actually one of them. Feel free to report them.

Imagine thinking you need to use homophobic slurs in order to make progress :bibliahh: :bibliahh: :bibliahh:

Off topic but is it true that he made a white woman say the n word on stage and then dragged her for it? in front of 1000s of people? so if he can say the *** why can't the white woman say the n word..

enough of the mental gymnastics. either u can say both the slurs or u else u shouldn't either. stop trying to defend him with these shitty ass excuses...

I’m not going to engage with people who are defending a straight man using a gay slur, but I do want to just generally apologize to any gay people reading this who have to, on a forum comprised primarily of LGBTQ+ people, defend being offended by it. Y’all are being gaslit and it’s really sad. I honestly didn’t expect people would be grasping at straws to defend this pretending that “context” is ok.

We all know that other marginalized communities get extended far more empathy when people use slurs against them in any “context”, and despite the exact same logic, people want to gaslit LGBTQ+ people into thinking it’s “not the same.” It’s the exact same logic whether people want to admit it or not. It’s so disheartening to read people grasping at straws to defend this, as well as people having to defend why they’re offended by the use of a slur used seven times.  :rip:

All these embarrassing self-hating faggots in here are trying to invalidate people's genuine opinions and feelings by screaming wHiTe tWiNkS!!!! and claiming the message is just too deep for us pea-brains to understand but the song is simply idiotic and contradictory.

The entire concept of the song is that he "learned" that using the word is bad in any context after his trans uncle compared it to the incident where he wouldn't let a white girl rap along to the n-word. But then on the song he is literally going against all that he claims he learned by using the word 7 times

Kendrick was away for essentially 5 years, so his return was automatically going to be welcomed with attention. That was inevitable.

That's literally the point of the entire song. Through each verse he takes you through his own growth in understanding the impact of saying "My auntie is a man now" and misgendering her.

By the final verse, he not only understands how to correctly gender his Auntie but he stands up to the Preacher who says "his Auntie is a man now" because he sees that statement hurts her.

You're asking too much from people who clearly don't understand context and are unable to comprehend things.

Should we be shocked that people have no interest in dissecting the words of a black artist? Words that he is clearly very intentionally using for specific reasons? People don’t think he can use certain types of depth and don’t understand what he is saying with this song.

That being said, although his message is very sound and fascinating, he probably should’ve troubleshooted the language he utilized here cos it did not sit well with a lot of people regardless of intent or execution.

The oppression olympics in here. :deadbanana2: Black users throwing WhItE gAyS around like it means anything just to be slick (still reportable since ATRL pledges to be a safe space for everyone) and gays coming for other gays because they're cOoL gays. The n - word vs. f - word debate, as if one is worse than the other...

A damn mess.
