But it’s from a first person POV and Taylor singing from the perspective of a middle aged woman strains credulity a little bit. Besides that, it’s a natural evolution of the sort of “domestic storytelling” songs Faith has recorded throughout her career so it just seems to fit. It didn’t help matters that Taylor has such distinct elements to her songwriting (double meanings, double choruses, etc) and the song doesn’t really have them. My original Taylor concept was a song about a woman who found out her husband was cheating on her with a man (I’ve been watching The Staircase lol), but it just didn’t come together.
