I have two dogs. One is a pitbull mix and the other is 100% pitbull. The 100% pitbull is much more aggressive than the mix. It’s like night and day. The mix breed dog didn’t need to be trained to know not to attack and be aggressive, the pitbull on the other has to be.

I think the main difference is that pitbull NEED to be trained while some other dog breeds don’t and that’s what makes them so dangerous. The fact that the the difference between another pet getting attacked or not lies within the owners training than the dogs instinct is the issue cause humans prove that humans can be useless time and time again. ?

Not banned. But limited.

Don't like pitbull due to its brainless.

Poodle/g shepherd/g retriever remain far superior.

I grew up with two pitbills, and they were the biggest babies every! I miss them.

It depends on how they were raised in my opinion!

Should be banned and their owners need to get mental help.

They have been banned here since 1991.

I hate to single out certain breed as I love dogs and had them my whole life, I used to against any bans, but now I'm not so sure :skull:

This breed has been backyard bred to death by trashy people all around the world for quick bucks and macho points, with no regard of genetics, so many Pitbulls has ended up with neurotic behavioral issues. Kind of like happened with Dalmatians. Combine that with a very strong dog and you have a disaster.

It's also very concerning/telling that when you go look at US shelters and 80-95% of the dogs are pits (or "lab" mixes or whatever fake label).

I've only met a pitbull once and it was a sweet and nice dog, but I can't say I don't find all the cases of dog maulings alarming.

The dog breed vs owner debate is so black and white when it's clearly both problems.

Ummm chile

They are in the same family.

The American Bully breed is a mixture of American Staffordshire Terriers and American Pitbull Terrier, both of which are Pitbull breeds. This means that even though the American Bully isn't a Pitbull, it still shares similar genes

there should be a license to own pitbulls. a lot of you are saying "no bad dogs just bad owners" so let's filter out potential bad owners.

Truly horrifying. Owner should be sent to jail

Yes, unless you apply to own one and go through mandatory training that proves you will raise and provide for the dog properly, and if necessary, put the dog down if it exhibits violent behavior.  Also, why would someone purposely choose a dog breed known for violently attacking everything AND being stupid when there are so many other breeds right there?

Ann Dunn, 65, was mauled to death by multiple dogs in a property on St Brigids Crescent, Vauxhall.

Merseyside police have since confirmed an investigation has been launched. Five American bulldogs, which were inside the property, were handed over and have since been humanely destroyed.

Now, PETA (People for the ethical treatment of animals) are calling for the American bulldog breed to be banned in light of Ann's death.

PETA’s Vice President of Programmes, Elisa Allen, said: "Mourning can’t be allowed to continue to replace action to stop these repeated, tragic attacks. People must stop denying the irrefutable fact that most serious and fatal dog attacks are by “bully” breeds, deliberately created by humans to be easily provoked into fighting without being distracted or deterred from a kill.

"These dogs are bred to be strong-jawed and ultra-muscular, with a trigger that we do not yet understand. When dogs attack humans, it can certainly be because the dog has been tormented, over-disciplined, beaten, poorly socialised, isolated, or restricted in their movement by caging or chaining by a current or previous owner, but that isn’t always the case.

'Bully' breeds have been selectively bred for over a century specifically to attack. Uncomfortable as it may be to face, the way to prevent more attacks is to stop allowing these types of dogs to be bred.

"It is of the utmost urgency that we take this step to protect humans and other animals from a danger of our own making."
