Why the songs that Bey intended for the Oscars don't connect with the GP?

She doesn't do well on songs that have less than 17 writers.

She wrote Independent Women by herself, credited the 2 new producers as well and it was #1 for 11 consecutive weeks.

Listen is an undeniable classic. Spirit grew on me surprisingly. Other than that, i don't ******* know

Listen is, as someone said, a low-key classic in the genre that it is. It also wasn't at all the kind of song that would've charted in 2006, I mean this is pretty simple. It's a power-ballad broadway-adjacent track.

At Last is a cover, first of all, so not even eligible for an Oscar. It being a cover of an already beloved version also explains why it wasn't a hit, not to mention at the time she was getting two Top 3 hits on her own with If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies.

Spirit also was not at all the type of song that would chart well in 2019. It did about as well as the other Disney remake soundtrack singles, like Ariana's a few years prior for Beauty and the Beast (which charted about 10 spots higher) or Zayn Malik's from Aladdin in 2019 too (which didn't chart).

Be Alive wasn't promoted at all until the Oscars and was clearly created to fit within the end credits sequence.

On the other hand, her soundtrack singles that did prescribe to pop standards (Independent Women and Check On It) were #1 hits for 11 and 5 weeks respectively.

Even if we say she didn't write it herself, that's still far less then 17 writers...there are 4... and on one of the biggest Hot 100 hits of all time, and automatically proves the point wrong.

That being said, she absolutely did write it herself. If you don't know your history that's okay, but don't go acting all petulant because of your own assumptions.

Theres really no point in arguining with this user. He's always amongst the first 4 posters in any shady Bey thread where he can post how much he dislike/hates her.

That user is a severe case of OBSESSED Bey hater and no matter the logic, he wont react to it. Truly a nutcase.

OT: Arts not the charts

lol I thought this too but to be fair even Beyoncé ignores this. It was an Amazon exclusive music track and still remains unavailable anywhere to stream or purchase but Amazon (unless you buy the full Epic soundtrack on iTunes, it comes with it, which...who would do that?)

Independent Women - Went #1

Check on It - Went #1

Listen - Was basically a talent show staple at one point. Connected with the GP but not Oscar voters.

At Last - A cover

Spirit - Cute but not really something with replay value. Kinda an inferior Glory.

Be Alive - No idea who she expected this to resonate with

Listen is a classic

It's the 3rd best performing single off B'Day , in certain markets (Asia) it's actually bigger than Beautiful Liar

If we're really keeping it a buck...

Independent Women P.1 (#1 for 11 weeks) and Check On It (#1 for 5 weeks) were also Oscar "long-listed" in their respective years. :coffee2:

Listen is literally the best selling song out of the BOS category for that Oscar year.

At Last is just a cover and an unofficial upload of that audio has over 100 million views alone.

Give it up. If Beyonces music didn't connect with the GP she wouldn't be a topic 25 years later.

Rise Up is lowkey a cult classic I loved it so much

anyway she doesn’t write these songs and her emotionless singing really make it harder to connect with the GP

Considering he probably thinks Britney's music has connected with the public in the past 10 years it's giving delusion.

Listen is stunning. It deserved more recognition. Spirit and Be Alive, not so much.

Why is At Last included here? Why would a cover ever be considered for an "Original" Song Oscar?  :toofunny2:
