Aw, I’m sorry! It feels terrible to get a rejection, but I remember that you got other acceptances, so at least you know you’re going to have other options!

Admitted to my top choice with a scholarship I'm literally crying

I'm in my 4th year, and conducting research has been a frustrating experience. When I started, I was excited as my initial studies showed promising results, but now it has become hard to find a significant effect for what I am proposing. I feel like I hit a wall and don't know how to proceed, and my advisor seems to be just as confused as I am.

I’m sorry you’ve felt like you’ve hit a wall. I can’t imagine how frustrating that is in research. What are you studying?

Also, it sounds like you’re in a doctoral program? @Bloo might have some helpful insight since they’ve been through the process.

I successfully defended my desertion today. It went very well, and was easier than I had imagined. They almost didn't ask any questions (when I anticipated a couple), and at some point I felt like something was off due to their lack of interruptions. I kept pausing waiting for someone to interject, but they didn't . They asked me some basic questions at the end. When I was done, two of the committee members told me that it was one of the most interesting and smoothest defenses they have seen in a while, which sounds absurd to me! Nevertheless, I am officially a doctor!

I don't know if it's the lack of sleep, but I feel like an impostor? Even though I worked hard to earn this degree, I anticipated the journey to be more difficult. I almost feel like I didn't suffer enough to earn this degree? Maybe I'm selling myself short here, maybe handled the challenges well enough for me not to struggle.
