May day I am still having doubts about it going above Titanic globally but if international numbers deliver and the domestic weekend really is as big as it is looking then I will board that train.
BNF91 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 (edited) Btw Canadian Box office grosses for Avatar 2 are huge. At $58M+. Should reach $85-90M in Canada. Of course that's included in the domestic grosses. Will land in the top 3 of all-time here. Germany gunning for a fourth straight weekend above 1M admissions. Insanity. 2nd biggest 4th wknd of all-time behind Titanic. It should now push for $115-120M+ there. China doing well coming off a holiday weekend. Projected $17M 4th weekend, up to $191M. Maoyan predicts $220M+ there now. Spain and Italy doing unheard of numbers for movies since, the last Avatar lol. Both gunning for grosses north of €50M. Already in the all-time top tens of too many countries I can't count them all. Edited January 8, 2023 by BNF91

All the trackers are coalescing around $20M or perhaps more. One is saying $21M Way better than even I expected! $45M+ weekend in play. Fyi if Avatar 2 does hit $20M Sat, it will be the ONLY film in history to ever have a $20M day so late in its run.
tootight49 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 When do they start talking about a DOM final figure that is no longer in millions? 🤔 😉 😜
Zerocoke Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 With a +$45M weekend (higher than TGM’s 4th weekend), $700M DOM will be most definitely in play. Have the international numbers been released yet?

BNF91 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Oh my.. just utter slayage. $45M Domestic weekend. 2nd biggest ever, just behind the first Avatar ($50M). An absolutely insane -33% dip from the lucrative New Year's holiday weekend. Total is now $517M Domestic. Overseas.. $134M 4th weekend... As far as I know, this has to be the best 4th wknd of all-time OS. Total is now $1.191B OS, $1.2B will be passed tomorrow. Global total stands at $1.709B and after just 3.5 weeks, the film is now the #7 biggest film of all-time. NWH will fall in the next two weeks.
mystery Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 This weekend blew my expectations away. I might be joining the 700m domestic 2.2b global crowd.
BNF91 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Remember I said Avatar 2 needs to hold just 80% as well as No Way Home in order to hit $700M? Well, after this weekend, not only did it hold 10% better, it made $12M more this weekend than NWH did on its 4th! Now, if A2 has the same holds as NWH, it will end it's run at $724M. Top Gun baby, send out those flares. Toruk Mak' to is on your heels!

Da Vinci Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I've read somewhere that this already beat Endgame's total in India? I think in a no-war no-pandemic world this would've beaten the original The theory that the opening fell below expectations cause people were literally just waiting the perfect time to get premium screenings and in IMAX 3D (which were all sold out) turned out to be the real truth lol The whole purpose of this franchise is for that unique theatrical experience so it makes sense
kwek_kwek Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Is there a chance for TWOW to surpass Endgame? It would amazing if two Avatar films will occupy the top 2 spot.

Eóghan Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I know they were both 'new year's eve' and 'christmas eve' but the fact the 3rd saturday numbers are better than the first 2 saturday
mystery Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Are we thinking 1.9b by next Monday and outgrossing No Way Home sometime during the week?

This would end up at #2 AT LEAST without Covid ruining its run in China and no Russia release + Ukraine. The first Avatar : Russia: $116M Ukraine: 8.1M China had projections close to $600M before the recent Covid outbreak. It will surpass $200M in the end... That's at least around $530M on the table that the movie isn't doing from these 3 territories This is honestly insane...and the funniest part is, this movie is coming out after over a decade before the previous one and has a Cinemascore of A and the next sequels will take much less to be released since the 3rd one is filmed and part of the 4th one as well This could potentially be the least grossing Avatar movie of them all, lmao. Next time China won't be dealing with the same stuff it is right now, let's not forget that.
