I mean, I'm talking about movies who manages to create buzz-hype with consequently good receptions, and this year only these 3 got that, that's why I watched only 3 so far.

-M3gan;

-Scream;

-Evil Dead Rise.

Aside from those, nothing else has truly made noise.

I watch a lot of tv shows mostly these days so I don't have much time to check movies that are poor rated on imdb and rotten together to see if people or critics were wrong, been there done that and in general when this happens there still some noise about those movies.. and I even tried to give a chance of the atrocity of 'Skinamarink'.

Yeah I totally got it. I felt the same I only watched 2 big releases. Avoiding Scream cuz I was never a fan of the series and 5th movie relied on old movies so much and I dont think I should watch the 6th one if I dont understand the before events.

Finally got around to watch my most anticipated horror movie of the year at home aka Evil Dead Rise. Unfortunately it got no showings here in my country (due to being too “violent”) so naturally i missed out on the theatrical experience which is a shame :chick3:

Anways, i went in with decent amount of expectations as i’m a huge fan of the 2013 remake/reboot and also a fan of the franchise in general. And i’m glad the hype didn’t ruin it for me. The movie delivered what i expected and more. It was a blast. A relentless, gruesome thrill ride from beginning and it doesn’t hold back. Very similar to ED 2013 in that regard even tho this one has more of a ED2 vibe with some subtle campy tone/humour thrown into the mix.

Alyssa Sutherland is a star. She’s absolutely phenomenal, easily one of the best and most memorable horror performances in recent memory. All the cast did a great job honestly. The sound design, the gore and the overall tone and atmosphere are just chef kiss. As far as mainstream horror movies go it went harder than pretty much everything else we’ve got in the past few years (tho perhaps not as gory/brutal as the 2013 remake). Also love the little references to the og series and how tastefully they got it done.

Best horror movie this year so far imo. This >>>> Scream 6 >>> M3gan. All 3 smashed hard both critically and box office wise so i’m very happy. Horror fans are eating :flame:

Beau is Afraid was kind of a masterpiece but at the same time it’s SO messy

Horror has been kinda lacking this year which sucks since last year was amazing. There's been a few great ones but I'm hoping the 2nd half of the year delivers more. Usually in the fall horror movies start popping up more.

These are the new horror movies I've seen this year so far that I remember off the top of my head lol

M3gan, Infinity Pool, Scream 6, Evil Dead Rise, Sick, Knock At The Cabin, Family Dinner, Influencer, Brooklyn 45

Evil Dead Rise is my favorite this year but I feel Sick is very underrated and worth watching if you haven't seen it! I'm also very hyped for Talk To Me

2 is slightly better imo because they start the found footage segments way earlier and they're still some of the scariest around. However the narrative goes nowhere compared to the first (it's gonna be a trilogy so they're clearly holding out a bit) so it's really just collection of scary little tales, which works for me but ymmv. And I actually love how much it commits to giving you zero answers lol, it's the opposite of what found footage sequels usually do.

The box office smashes happened to be also the best received movies of the year so far, but there's no other movies that received positive reviews or buzz regardless of box office..

I wish Beau is A-Flop was only the first act. It was giving Mother! -level excellence :WAP:

Then the second act came and the whole thing went downhill
