Rence Posted April 8 Posted April 8 XC3 has one of the strongest first acts I've ever played in a JRPG but it goes downhill from there really fast. I still consider the end of Chapter 5 to the start of Chapter 6 as the peak of the whole series but it can't carry the rest of the game being mediocre and uninspired. Future Redeemed DLC cleared the main game tho

I think it has the best premise of any XC game, but so many of the story decisions are irredeemably bad. Like that random fight in Ch 4 between the two side characters who have ZERO motivation for fighting each other And the villain being a cookie cutter antagonist with no narrative drive behind their actions. And the forced romance. And the protagonist being dull as hell. I was the biggest Xeno- stan here before XC3 launched, but even I was forced to acknowledge the game's glaring weaknesses. (And this isn't to mention gameplay weaknesses, like the terrible side quest design, map design being worse than XC1, XC2, and XCX, etc.) 1

The three games are incredibly well connected, culminating with XC3 which provides an amazing and beautiful ending to the story that begins in XC:DE. XC:DE is the start of the trilogy as it has already been mentioned. The story is crazy good and the battle system is perhaps the best way to access the franchise. It is far more accessible than the one in XC2 but less interesting and fun than the one in XC3. XC2 may have the franchise's most iconic characters and the Blade system which is really good (ignoring the gacha system). The story, as I said, is crazy good as well. And finally, you have XC3 which closes the trilogy with both characters from XC1 and XC2 and tons of references. This game was such a beautiful way to end the trilogy, the story is amazing as well (don't listen to people in this thread, they think hating on this game is cool or something). The battle system is, in my opinion, the best out of the three games and the characters are also amazing. The DLC is really good too as you will see if you get it Thank you for your insights I got the XCDE right before the sale was over in the end, but I don't know when I'll be able to play it
Ewan Chaos Posted April 10 Posted April 10 So. Is the "leaked plan" of a general direct this month & Switch 2 reveal in June still in the books or what.

I guess it depends if the switch two is a Q4 release or not. I can't imagine them announcing it in June if it's (allegedly) not coming out until March 2025. Typically they're pretty good at having a gold turn around rate between reveals and releases
Ewan Chaos Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Yeah I always thought that a June reveal for a Q1 2025 release felt... odd. Maybe they have one game they really wanna push as a holiday title instead of relying on Switch 2 preorders as their holiday "purchase" (that's what I'd imagine would make the most sense with like... an October reveal). Oh well, guess we'll see. 1

The only other thing I could see is an announcement in the June Direct and then further promotion in the September Direct. 1

Eóghan Posted April 11 Posted April 11 i don't know what he's hinting at but John Cena would pull off Ganondorf easy, he's one of the few who got the face feature and body. as for for acting skills, y'all should watch the HBO show 'Peacemaker', he's proven his excellent range in it. now they just need to confirm Hunter Schafer and we good to go. honestly i'm not worried about casting, i'm more worried about the awful director they attached to the project and the bad script that nintendo will put together
Curaga Posted April 16 Posted April 16 It's been so long since anything on Silksong that I don't even think about it anymore But I did play/beat Hollow Knight a couple times at the beginning of the year I really lost my touch speed running it lol (and by speed running I mean beating it as fast as I personally can; I'm no wizard). I used to be able to beat it in just over 3 hrs, but it took me about 6 these last two times.

I'd be stuck on bosses for 30+ hours because I don't have the appropriate upgrades and charms 'traitor lord' is the first real skill check that I can't do without proper exploration. 1
thatsmydemi Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Hope you guys have already pre-ordered SMTV:V. We got GOTY right there.
Erreur2 La Nature Posted April 16 Posted April 16 2024 might be the most boring year ever for Nintendo imo I could not care less about playing indie games on the switch and silksong certainly ain't gonna be announced in it

Lord Gaga Posted April 17 Posted April 17 The way the only thing I've really played this year is super Mario rpg and the only game I'm looking forward to getting is the paper Mario remake I still have okami in my backlog but otherwise that's IT.
Kirby Kirbs Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Switch 2 delay has reverted us to the state of OG Switch's 1st year inadvertently in which the console was supported by indies mainly.
SlowGinFizzzz Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Wait this looks great!? It's kinda giving Ori meets Celeste, both of which I loved.
dabunique Posted April 22 Posted April 22 so i gave into da sale and got sea of stars ive been loving all these mario rpgs so i'm excited to switch it up a bit
SlowGinFizzzz Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Quote Speaking of backtracking, this is arguably the biggest weakness of the original GameCube game. That's still the case in story chapters (looking at Chapter 2 in particular), but you'll gain access to a Warp Pipe room which allows you to fast-travel back to the other towns. Yes, this existed in the GameCube version, but it's been tweaked heavily for the Switch release – no longer do you need to break huge blocks to access pipes, nor do you need to remember which pipe goes where. Each blue pipe is labelled with a number corresponding to the chapter you visited that town in, meaning you can easily get back to Petalburg or the Great Tree by simply following the numbers. It might take a minute to unlock, but it makes those Trouble Center requests much easier to complete. And you can access it straight from Rogueport rather than going through the Sewers each time. https://www.nintendolife.com/features/hands-on-paper-mario-the-thousand-year-door-unfolds-gloriously-on-switch
