dman4life Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Slightly off topic but is anyone planning on making a Disqus chat for this thread on election night like 2020? I don't trust this server, my friends don't follow politics and I need a group of like minded individuals to celebrate/melt down withย
Sannie Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) 3 minutes ago, Bloo said: I disagree about bipartisanship and how people feel about it. ย I think, instead, people disapprove of hyper-partisanship. People don't like when politics feels like it's just a sports game and it's, "I hate Republicans and they're all Neo Nazis," and, "I hate Democrats and they drink the bloods of babies." If simply not falling into that trap is what you are referring to by "bipartisanship", then I see where you're coming from. But I just don't think that's a proper reflection of bipartisanship and is more so a rejection of hyper-partisanship. I hate hyper-partisanship of all forms. I hate when the MAGA crowd refuses to acknowledge Trump's lies and weaknesses. I hated when hyper-partisan Democrats (i.e., "Blue MAGA") refused to acknowledge that Biden was a mess in his debate with Trump and had to go if we want a shot at beating Trump. ย Hyper-partisanship sucks and Iย doย think most people agree to that. But, plenty of bipartisan efforts have massive disapproval: the TikTok ban, handing out billions of dollars to Israel while FEMA is underfunded, giving corporations and the wealthy tax breaks, etc. ย People do not say, "Wow, I love that so much," simply because it's bipartisan. People will like something it feels like it benefits them and addresses their concerns. ย So, while I disagree with you, it could be just an artifact of us using different language to communicate on these issues. OK, yeah, we're on the same page lol. I think this is where I'm conflating the terms and removing the nuance. 100% agree with you now. ย Edited October 10 by Sannie

Like I'm willing to bet a handful of these Trump voters are either trolling or won't vote. The state fair is just a mess of a place and every time I go, I wonder how they operate with $22 baked potatoes and $70 to ride one ride. Almost everyone who attends is rude and nasty. โ Honesty, I think I need to take a break from the election for a couple weeks here. The dooming online is too much. I don't trust the polls at all anymore, I don't think they've cracked the code at all. ย NYT and Marist can't agree. Quinnipiac is pushing a huge Trump agenda with their weighing. YouGov is giving a bit of hope but not much with their online poll spam and methodology. Morning Consult and Trafalgar are both serving opposites of one another. Others are just serving herding up the ass. Polls used to have numbers based on ~70% response rates, but now can't get over 2%. ย I don't know who's going to win at all, truthfully. But if you ask me, polling is ****ed. I expect we'll see a big miss again this election, and thankfully, seeing how these pollsters have just been tossing their hat in the ring for Trump to avoid embarrassment, I'd guess they're underestimating Harris. I don't know how they'll fix their problems moving forward, but I do know this dooming isn't helping.ย ย I'll see you girls in a couple weeks! Good luck to all. ๐ Edited October 10 by Relampago. 8 1

bunnyeyes Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) What made her so popular in the beginning (minus the novelty sheen of course) was the feeling of actual change that she fostered early on. We thought we were getting 2020 Kamala so to have her completely abandon that and run as Biden 2.0 when the majority of Americans agree we need substantial change is strange. It's one of the reasons Trump is so popular. It's because he represents a change to the status quo. Obviously, those of us here know it's a bad change but people are hungry for things to be different. That's why Bernie was so big even with young male vote votersโ it's because of that anti-establishment feeling that a lot of people are hungry for. Edited October 10 by bunnyeyes 3 1
DR0GO Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Kamala seems to do extremely well in certain public speaking settings but is a nervous wreck in others. I wonder if it's anxiety related? Like she's great at rallies in front of large groups of people but seems to struggle sometimes in one on one settings. ย I actually think she excels when she's just herself, showcases her personality and speaks a bit more off the cuff. But I think part of the issue is that she's rehearsed so much of what she has to say and whenever there's a curveball, it throws her off. If I had to guess, that Lester Holt interview did a number on her. She needs to become a bit more scrappy, and own her flaws and mistakes; it'll make people love her more. ย I also think she needs to break with Biden on a couple issues and be vocal about it. She has this unwavering loyalty to him (and I get it) but it's time to start making those differences clear. And embrace more of the progressive stances and policies I know you still believe in. ย I think Kamala wins the election, but there are many things she can and needs to tidy up on, asap. 2 1

Vroom Vroom Posted October 10 Posted October 10 You are all acting like having a Republican in her cabinet is her main platform. It is such a nothing burger statement just for right leaning never Trump moderates to feel a little better about voting for a Democrat instead of writing in the ghost of Ronald Reagan. ย I have watched several interviews from Kamala and she only mentioned putting a Republican in her cabinet once. You know what she talks about in every interview and rally? Abortion rights, opportunity economy and protecting fundamental freedoms. That is her platformย 11
Tovitov Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I had the day off from work and I spent about 4 hours just looking at election twitter and some various reddit communities and forums, seeing what the general consensus is. Repeatedly claiming that you are the front runner has no strategic value for winning an election. Trump performs better when he is viewed as an underdog (It was mentioned earlier but this race feels like 2016 in reverse where Trump is Hillary and Kamala is Trump)ย This is just like how Trump continues to tell his voters to only vote on Election Day and to stay away from voting by mail. That's a terrible strategy, but if he loses he can say that voting by mail is a scam and that the only votes that should count are in-person Election Day votes. It is interesting to mention that Trump was getting ready to embrace voting by mail when Biden was still running and he felt like he had the election in bag. Now that the election is super close, he has changed his "strategy"ย ย I am still very optimistic that Trump will lose. But you should never count him out, so I am mentally prepared for him to winย 4
