I agree that it's callous to say "who cares about the genocide overseas?", just like it's callous to say "trans and immigrant people's safety in America are second priority". I don't want to be in the position to have to choose between the two this election, either. pray for walz babes

Pritzker and Buttigieg were never making it, they felt more like formalities to consider a larger pool of candidates because 4 is too little. Kelly was Top 2 in the early days of the Harris campaign (which is wild to say considering the days of the entire campaign are just over 14.5 at the moment) but he quickly fell off. Beshear was always Top 3 and may have been #2 at one point but his public appearances, while good, got eclipsed by Walz who is the clear dark horse in this race. God Kamala please pick Walz and focus on winning. 11
Dera Posted August 5 Posted August 5 it sends me into orbit that beshear drove himself to the meeting king levels of main character desperation. I hope he got a hug when they told him no 3

I don't want to be in the position to have to choose between the two this election, either. pray for walz babes Because the people they claim to care about are largely the group that they are villainizing. There is correlation in the US between privilege and one's likelihood to vote. Rich people vote more than poor people. Highly educated and affluent people vote more than those who lack said privileges. White people vote more than people of color. What's being described as right-wing is lacking a materialist/leftist understanding that non-voters are often the most marginalized and how often centrists like that user frame the conversation as though it is non-voters at fault for their own suffering and not the rich and privileged who vote for right-wingers + pull Dems to the right. Marginalized non-voters are not sabotaging Democrats. The only people trying to see Democrats fail are people who demand Democrats take right-wing positions. Anyone who cares about trans people and migrants would be fuming at Biden throwing both groups under the bus before he withdrew his candidacy to appeal to Nikki Haley voters and other Republicans. "Being upset over your cousin being killed in a drone strike" is a valid grievance. "Being upset because property taxes are high and there's a trans girl on your daughter's soccer team" is not a valid grievance and one of these positions should receive 100000x more condescension and hostility than the other yet centrists continually get such wrong. 2 2

Communion Posted August 5 Posted August 5 (edited) Oh. So that's what centrists like this care about. At this point, people who make over six-figures really should have the value of their votes cut in half. It's more humane of a solution than what I want to actually say. shelven Posted August 5 Posted August 5 51 minutes ago, Vermillion said: As someone who grew up with a very Jewish upbringing, was almost exclusively surrounded by Jewish people for like the first 17 years of my life, and still has close ties to the Jewish community via family members, I really can't emphasize enough how true the last sentence is (at least within some Jewish communities, obviously I can't speak for everyone) and how frustrating it is. There are a lot of Zionist Jews who very strongly believe that Judaism and Zionism are linked at their core and so even so much as criticizing Israel's actions is essentially a betrayal of your Judaism. The echo chamber and intense peer pressure within some of these communities is a huge problem because if you support someone who the rest of the community views as "not a loyal Jew", then you're viewed as disloyal by association. "But Bernie is Jewish" will never work as a counterargument for that reason. The people who argue that criticizing Shapiro is antisemitic pretty much don't view Bernie as Jewish in anything but genealogy. 1
