YellowRibbon Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Beshear is the smartest decision right know... Shapiro can be used in the future along with Whitmer, Kelly or Cooper. All of them still have stuff to do in their respective states while he's nearing an end on Kentucky's public positions. 1 1

Ms. Togekiss Posted July 23 Posted July 23 1 hour ago, Communion said: Not to keep going, but the only other thing that comes up is that Beshear eventually created an "antisemitism task force" around December 2023 after being called on by the Kentucky Human Rights Commission after bomb threats at synagogues in the state and they welcomed the ADL to attend their first meeting in January 2024, but it's not really clear that the task force has actually done anything and in the executive order creating it are only meant to "meet 4-6 times a year". ย The task force though is under the Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives, that Beshear appointed Charles Booker to. The announcement for it also saw him include explicit reference to Islamophobia as an equal form of hate as antisemitism (the language that comes from him is all very interfaith community counselor): None of the official texts reference Israel, as well: https://governor.ky.gov/attachments/20231221_Antisemitism-Task-Force.pdf ย Karen Berg, who seems like an ally to Beshear, is on the task force as well. She's the only Jewish member of the Kentucky legislature and is mainly known for her LGBTQ advocacy - her son was a trans man who killed himself in 2022 that led to unsavory comments by Republicans in the state: In the meeting notes, the examples of antisemitism Beshear references being shocked to see from his own personal encounters are things like a police training video made by KY state police that ended up having a swastika in it. Obviously the ADL will mention Israel and frame Zionism as self-determination. They promote the IHRA definition of antisemitism but that's largely irrelevant to Beshear, as Kentucky's legislature had unanimously passed a bill in 2021 making the IHRA definition of antisemitism the sole definition. ย The meetings are here for those genuinely curious. I'm not sure if I wanna bother watching thru them:ย https://governor.ky.gov/priorities/antisemitism-task-force ย Seeing him though possibly consider Charles Booker and Karen Berg allies (I'd need more tea from @Bloo) and their views definitely would give the impression his views are the most dove-ish out of anyone else being possibly considered. What do you mean by dove-ish?

Blade Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Beshear is by far putting in the most effort to be VP. Was it Ms. @Vermillionย who had the tea saying Beshear didn't want it? Hm, the Morning Joe and CNN appearance give me a different impression. ย Also "Tim Kaine" pick isn't even applicable to Kamala. I can't think of anyone that would give "Tim Kaine" from the front runners. Maybe Roy Cooper?? Barely. If anything, J.D Vance gives "Tim Kaine" in the sense that these are VPs that add absolutely nothing to the ticket. They might "excite" the base but they brought in not a single new voter.ย 2

The fact that he hasn't isn't a good sign. The interviews absolutely gave a different impression than what I'd heard days ago, which is that he wanted to be transitioning to a different role in politics but that he doesn't want to be her VP.

GhostBox Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Roy Cooper would be the worst pick of them all ๐ ย Beshear or ย Shapiro are younger and more appealing for obvious reasonsย
bunnyeyes Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Beshear, Kelly, and Whitmer (which I know isn't happening) are my top picks right now from the list, policy wise.ย
