GhostBox Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I really do like Beshear the most. But we need to win the race and I think Shapiro does that's for the ticket.ย ย PA would be a lot easier to win with Shapiro in the ticket.ย

The statement passed on by that aide in the other tweet felt very standard Americanโข๏ธ with the "self-defense! Communion Posted July 23 Posted July 23 (edited) Not to keep going, but the only other thing that comes up is that Beshear eventually created an "antisemitism task force" around December 2023 after being called on by the Kentucky Human Rights Commission after bomb threats at synagogues in the state and they welcomed the ADL to attend their first meeting in January 2024, but it's not really clear that the task force has actually done anything and in the executive order creating it are only meant to "meet 4-6 times a year". ย The task force though is under the Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives, that Beshear appointed Charles Booker to. The announcement for it also saw him include explicit reference to Islamophobia as an equal form of hate as antisemitism (the language that comes from him is all very interfaith community counselor): None of the official texts reference Israel, as well: https://governor.ky.gov/attachments/20231221_Antisemitism-Task-Force.pdf ย Karen Berg, who seems like an ally to Beshear, is on the task force as well. She's the only Jewish member of the Kentucky legislature and is mainly known for her LGBTQ advocacy - her son was a trans man who killed himself in 2022 that led to unsavory comments by Republicans in the state: In the meeting notes, the examples of antisemitism Beshear references being shocked to see from his own personal encounters are things like a police training video made by KY state police that ended up having a swastika in it. Obviously the ADL will mention Israel and frame Zionism as self-determination. They promote the IHRA definition of antisemitism but that's largely irrelevant to Beshear, as Kentucky's legislature had unanimously passed a bill in 2021 making the IHRA definition of antisemitism the sole definition. ย The meetings are here for those genuinely curious. I'm not sure if I wanna bother watching thru them:ย https://governor.ky.gov/priorities/antisemitism-task-force ย Seeing him though possibly consider Charles Booker and Karen Berg allies (I'd need more tea from @Bloo) and their views definitely would give the impression his views are the most dove-ish out of anyone else being possibly considered. I think your research is pretty thorough. For a mainline Democrat, Beshear is pretty solid and does a fairly good job of toeing the line to make sure heโs not outright disrespecting the left. I no longer live in Kentucky so I havenโt followed him as closely in the last few years. But, I trust him more than I do the others being mentioned and think he speaks plainly enough to appeal to middle America voters.ย ย Ultimately, this will hinge on how Kamala decides to position herself. Iโve seen some whispers online that sheโs trying to build distance between her and Bibi. Also, some of the Biden staffers that left because of his handling of Gaza have mentioned sheโs more sympathetic on the issue altogether. So, Iโm curious to see how she responds to this issue. Whoever she picks for VP will be expected to play along with that direction. 1 1
shelven Posted July 23 Posted July 23 If Shapiro had won in 2022 by like 6 points, I would barely be bothering to think of his existence. But a 15-point win in a swing state during a year that should have been bad for the Dems in theory is just really hard to overlook ย I know Mastriano was certifiably insane and made Trump look like a liberal academic by comparison, but you don't win by that margin in a swing state in such a polarized environment if you're not resonating with people in your state. I really think having him on the ticket shifts Pennsylvania firmly in the Dems' favour and once Pennsylvania is locked in, paths to 270 become a lot more flexible. ย That said, I think Beshear is off to a great start in his public appearances over the last 24 hours and I think he has the potential to raise the ticket throughout the whole Rust Belt instead of just giving a big boost to one state with perhaps limited effect in the other states. So I don't think Harris can go wrong between the two of them tbh. Just please for the love of god do not let it be Buttigieg 3
Gaia Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Ngl even without knowing much about her political history or views, the constant memes are making me love her ย ย I think people don't realize the reason we never have high youth turn out (compared to overall) for elections is because they are not actually connecting with them in the ways they should have. ย The fact that TikTok has been completely underutilized this election is crazy.
