Abracadabra Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Just got out of seeing JFAD, while I get some of the criticism I also think people are being a bit harsh. It wasn't a bad film, although I think a sequel would have worked better without it being a musical, and if they had decided to focus on Arthur and Lee's relationship rather than his trial. Not even being biased but Gaga was definitely the best thing about the movie, although I think Joaquin was good too. 6

Owen Gleiberman (Variety) calls her a "great actor" who was "drastically underused." And Peter Bradshaw(The Guardian) claims Gaga "delivers a diva charge" and wonders if her version of Harley Quinn might "return in an adventure of her own?" 4
Giorgoc Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I just saw the movie. Most people groaned while the musical numbers were happening. The movie was legit bad, although the acting from everyone was amazing. This was the first time that I was watching Gaga playing herself at times tho, ngl (AHS Hotel not included). All in all, I don't regret watching it but I don't think I'll ever watch it again. 1 1
Namiskine Posted October 4 Posted October 4 The way all of her top hits are doing 100k more daily streams compared to last month (except Bad Romance which gave it to its good sis Judas for a 200k increase)

The $20 has already been spent and you are not getting that money back no matter what, so walking out of the movie and spending your time doing something else worthwhile is better than forcing yourself to finish a movie you hate.
Abracadabra Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Literally nobody was audibly groaning during the musical numbers at my showing I've never really known that to happen for any movie 8
Almodusa Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Just noticed they recategorized Harlequin as Jazz on Apple 6
Power&Control Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I saw the movie last night and i really liked (maybe not the ending) I can understand the reviews and public reaction but Gaga was AMAZING and i'm soooo proud of her NOW IS TIME FOR LG7

DarkGa Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Where has the rhetoric come from saying her fan base is smaller now? Everyone is simply waiting for the pop record 1

Chaos Angel Posted October 4 Posted October 4 3 minutes ago, DarkGa said: Where has the rhetoric come from saying her fan base is smaller now? Everyone is simply waiting for the pop record Because Harlequin debuted with less than L4S despite having two originals & US liddos weren't buying DWAS (21k first week) She's probably in a worse off position than going into Chromatica (coming from ASIB), but perhaps better than Joanne (coming from ARTPOP). I think she has a little playing catchup to do since she's been out of the pop scene for 4+ years but she can easily gain that back with the right single choices.
Lil Mxnster Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) I just watched JFÀD. My expectations were so incredibly low that, honestly, I wasn't disappointed at all In fact, I didn't find it boring, I didn't yawn or fall asleep, and I enjoyed every scene with my eyes wide open. The pacing and editing were even better than the first film. I found the production design, performances and plot to be more risky, human and psychological, despite some flaws. While I understand why comic fans and those who dislike musicals might hate it, I was pleasantly surprised by the social commentary and the mental health topics through the film and I wouldn't mind watching it again. The song selection could have been better, with fewer but more complete performances. The musical numbers for The Joker and Oh, When The Saints, for instance, were standouts for their staging and their symbolism with the story Score: 67 Edited October 4 by Lil Mxnster 5

DWAS had a nice debut though and so even did SL in 2020. I really think her fans are just over the jazz. It's fine though since now the entire JFAD era disappointed, we can just move on shortly. Nearly half the songs (6) have no significant jazz influence at all, including both of the original tracks. Pop was the right choice since it's much more broad. Edited October 4 by TedLasso 2

Even jazz / traditional pop or something would be ok. I don't think pop fits, since literally the only song fitting that description is HM.
