This is unprecedented. The servers weren't prepared for a movie to get a score over 100 so it's currently being displayed as 52. Warner Bros is consulting the CEO to figure out what to do next. J:FAD has the highest Metacritic score in history. Oldcuntgelina who? No one will ever break this record. J:FAD WILL SLAY. Spread the word. HAGEJSOALSHSJKAOSLWOSOS 1

AlGreRithm Posted September 4 Posted September 4 14 minutes ago, Velvet said: Stealing this from Awardswatch All of Gaga's reviews Indiewire: Hide contents "In practice, Phillips' decision to cast a generational superstar in a role that seems designed to maximize both her supreme talents as a singer and her all-consuming screen presence as an actress just so he can sit her in the background of a courtroom whenever he's not cutting her musical numbers off at the knees…well, it's a lot more criminal than anything Arthur Fleck ever does in this movie." Vulture: Hide contents "In its relentless gloom, Folie à Deux plunks Gaga in a visitation booth where she tries to pretend she couldn't blow the plexiglass walls off the place with her rendition of "(They Long to Be) Close to You." It's a waste of her presence, even if the courtroom suit version of a Harley Quinn outfit that she dons as the film approaches its climax is destined to inspire thousands of imitators come Halloween. Her Lee isn't an equal partner to Arthur, but another accessory in his grand tragedy — a supercharged, scary-eyed take on a serial killer groupie." The Guardian: Reveal hidden contents "And that sensational acting and musical talent Lady Gaga is now in the mix [...] Lady Gaga brings a sly and manipulative malice to her role: Harley is secretive, smart and genuinely disturbed in a way that Arthur/Joker perhaps isn't. Is she to be the Lady Macbeth of DC supervillainy? Sort of. The story as constructed doesn't give her character much of a chance at development – in that direction or any other. And it is possible to feel very restless during the final section and wonder whether anything remotely plausible, sad, funny or unexpected will be revealed about Arthur, given that the film's body language insists on its mythic importance. This crazy self-possession propels the film up its laborious narrative gradient. And Lady Gaga delivers a diva charge. Could it be that her Harley Quinn will return in an adventure of her own?" The Hollywood Reporter: Reveal hidden contents "Gaga is a compelling live-wire presence, splitting the difference between affinity and obsession, while endearingly giving Arthur a shot of joy and hope that has him singing "When You're Smiling" on his way to court. Their musical numbers, both duets and solos, have a vitality that the more often dour film desperately needs. Since Lee is not meant to be a polished singer, Gaga tamps down her vocals into a raw, scratchy sound. But in the handful of scenes where fantasy liberates her in full-throated glory, the movie soars right along with her. [...] Some will complain that Gaga is criminally underused in the movie. But as much as it cries out for more of the extravagant numbers where the singer-actress gets to shine, Lee does have a full character arc. Any more of her probably risked tipping Folie à Deux into a Harley Quinn origin story." IGN: Reveal hidden contents "But if Joker: Folie à Deux has a not-so-secret weapon, it's Lady Gaga's rendition of Harley Quinn, whose fascination with Arthur is the film's very foundation. It's a shame the movie never quite allows its musical elements to bloom (the energy of these segments only goes so far), because affording Gaga the chance to run the emotional and tonal gamut would have likely resulted in one of the greatest feats of screen acting modern Hollywood has seen. She even modulates her singing voice between the real Lee (an unprofessional who belts with an uneven passion) and Arthur's imagined version of her, whose singing is more, well, Gaga-esque. Sadly, she's constrained by a subtle performance in a film that's anything but. The careful line Gaga walks between adoration and mania is entirely worthwhile, and temporarily allows a commentary on fandom obsession to sneak its way into the picture. (Lee is practically a Manson girl.) However, in true Phillips fashion, this idea never really comes to fruition." Variety: Reveal hidden contents "The casting of Lady Gaga certainly sounded promising, because she's a great actor, and was put on earth (among other things) to make musicals. But Gaga, who has a lovely unforced presence in "Folie à Deux," is drastically underused. Her Lee never quite takes wing. Gaga has a nice quiet moment singing "(They Long to Be) Close to You." (Speaking of Burt Bacharach, why did Phillips waste one of his only choice musical selections, "What the World Needs Now Is Love," on that opening cartoon?) But the number doesn't build. Gaga never gets a chance to do what she did in "A Star Is Born": seize the audience with her rapture." Slash: Reveal hidden contents The revelation of the movie is Gaga as Lee: on a technical level, it's so impressive to see how the actress and musician modulates her talent and abilities. To better suit the film's aesthetic (and match Phoenix's method of performing his songs in character), Gaga lets Lee have a breathy, pitchy style to her singing, only opening up the throttle during some of the fantasy musical numbers. It's a performance that recalls Ellen Greene's Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors," demonstrating Gaga's huge range. What's even better is how she's able to tap into the psychological realism of Harleen in a similar fashion to Phoenix's take on Arthur. I admit that I've never fully bought into the character of Harley Quinn when it comes to her relationship with Joker, as the toxicity and audacity of their story tends to make me roll my eyes (the nadir of this is their portrayal in 2016's "Suicide Squad"). Here, however, Harley comes to life in a way she never has before, her madness and obsession parallel yet distinct from Joker's. It makes the Arthur and Lee relationship consistently engaging and fascinating throughout the movie, taking it beyond the trite "she was his queen" emo edgelord nonsense and into something much deeper and more complex. This makes me so sad. Todd Phillips you better hide. 1
