Such an amazing and iconic song that did not deserve to flop like this It really sucks that if was her first real flop single. It was one of the earliest signs that ARTPOP would struggle.

Kinda true, but the earliest signs that she was overexposed and the GP hated her , started earlier with Born This Way lacking longevity and Judas flopping. Unfortunetelly, the world wasnt ready in 2011. Maybe if she took a year off and released BTW in 2012 would be better.

I think if ARTPOP came in early 2013 without direct comparison to Katy and Miley it would've done a lot better, but it still would've been a decline from BTW.

Every conservative was on her ass when the music video was released. She was just too big at the time to notice. BTW was carried by her hype coming off TFM, the backlash was just on full force when Judas was released, and during easter too, with just a single separating it from the Alejandro controversy. It didn't help that the single in between them tackled about the LGBT community. The 1-2-3 punch of ale MV, btw and Judas was just overkill. The Edge of Glory was a hit, and could have been her biggest hit had she decided to release it as the lead single, but even a song as spectacular as that couldn't do much to her image at the time even when rush released as the third single because the GP had enough of her. perpetual novice Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 I don't think Gaga was over exposed for BTW, if she kept serving The Fame style singles she would have rode that success for many more years, the reality is that most people just don't relate to the image she transitioned into. The early 2010s was all about vibrant colour and partying and she was doing black and white photoshoots covered in goo with face prosthetics on, it just wasn't relatable. I do love that era tho, I think it was her best visually and sonically. 4

If she had released an album full of Nothing on But The Radios it might've helped her roll her momentum into a longer imperial era.

I can't believe she was younger than me when she made it. When it first came out, I thought it had a ton of filler (forgive me I was 15), but now I think the only truly skippable song is Bad Kids. The world was simply not ready for Born This Way. Her vision was so wild and futuristic that the public (and even many of her fans) weren't ready. The photoshoots for the Album Art are absolutely iconic and nobody has done anything like it. I ***** LOVE this image. What a bad ***** 10
little legend Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 I still remember "I miss the old Lady Gaga" comments being everywhere from 2011 till 2015. The way that no one is saying such comments is such an achievement. She made everyone realize that she is every icon and her talent is timeless 1

A true cultural reset. 4

Chroma reminded us what she was capable of after Joanne's very constrained imagery. BTW was lightning in a bottle though.
GraceRandolph Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Album photoshoot rankings: 1. Born This Way 2. Chromatica (The cover alone puts it here) 3. The Fame Monster 4. The Fame 5. ARTPOP 6. Joanne 2
perpetual novice Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 The born this way shoot is one of my favourite album shoots of all time and definitely Gaga's best by a LONG way. This might be a super hot take especially in here but I actually think it's her only good album shoot, for such a visual artist the photography that goes along with the actual records always felt lacking for me, except The Fame's cover, which is iconic.

I find Chromatica’s cover aesthetically pleasing and it gets the job done, but it doesn’t stand out as its own distinct aesthetic from other artists operating in the same space. Most of the small “hyper pop” acts had been doing similar imagery. Born this Way was just so out there and undeniably GAGA. 1 1

The Fame and The Fame Monster were leagues above what most pop stars were doing in terms of album booklet visuals tbh. ARTPOP was the only booklet that lacked imo.

My ranking would basically be the same as this: 15 minutes ago, GraceRandolph said: Album photoshoot rankings: 1. Born This Way 2. Chromatica (The cover alone puts it here) 3. The Fame Monster 4. The Fame 5. ARTPOP 6. Joanne Maybe swapping Joanne and ARTPOP. Both are sorta boring but Joanne has some beautiful shots and ARTPOP's messiness is intriguing. The other four are excellent. 1
