Aden Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I don't think Gaga is getting the Vanguard until LG7 or a future pop era where she could leverage an extended performance slot for promotion. It wouldn't make sense for her to receive it in an off year. She also got the Tricon award three years ago, which hasn't been tremendously long.
sunbathinganimal Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 wasn't the Tricon award basically just a stand in for the Vangard?

ScubaDive Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I just saw videos! She won the Tricon award in 2020 during covid.
luckythisway Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 (edited) The way Gar was sauntering around on the NYC streets less than 5 blocks away from my office… B!tch better be hunting for a new apartment in the city! We HATECHU Malibu GAW GAW Edited August 4, 2023 by luckythisway
GraceRandolph Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 I just don’t think anyone cares about the VMAs anymore. Even the Oscars are becoming less relevant over time.

People did too much on HOG once we found out it was snubbed even though it was still a box office success and her role was acclaimed. Edited August 4, 2023 by Marry The Gods
Almodusa Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 —— The Tricon still isn’t the Vanguard, she still ought to get it. It’s like how people though the Global Icon Award was the Vanguard replacement and the following year both were handed out. 1
Vroom Vroom Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 The VMAs have been irrelevant for a long time. When they started awarding the vanguard almost every year it became less special (plus they gave it to a bunch of undeserving people). The tricon award is enough. I would be ok if she was never nominated by them again

Plus, Gaga is more concerned with acting at this point.
robattack332 Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Rock and disco album needs to leave everyone's vocabulary. Weird Darkga is an acceptable option (if she really goes for it), but I'd like to introduce the real hit album potential: Electro-R&Bga (with a twist of Sexga). This doesn't need to be strict R&B, but generally just a more rhythmic direction. Do What U Want is easily one of, if not her best, songs. She has one of the most stunning control vocals (see ARUTW) when she uses them. The music can range anywhere from her simpler songs like Second Time Around/Sexx Dreams to the more experimental like HML's crooning bridge. If executed correctly, she could both feed us and the GP some serious bops. It's also time for DJWS to come back. He's the only producer on Gar's level when it comes to versatility. The man can make pretty much anything. I know they're toxic for each other, but they're grown now and should be able to make an album without the antics. We can throw Mark in there to babysit (and keep B******p locked out of the studio). Bobby, I know you're watching...you're welcome. I mean.. 2

Infernal Paradise Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 (edited) The VMAs have not been relevant for almost 10 years now. I mean, they weren't relevant when she won Tricon, Artist of the Year and 3 other moonpersons either but we all still celebrated that big night and cheered for her so It's more about what the Vanguard stands for: "Outstanding contributions and influence on music video and popular culture" It's one of the few music awards that exclusively recognizes artists for their videographies and one of the most premier and revolutionary visual artists, who spearheaded music videos becoming cultural events again and helped popularize YouTube as a global digital hub, not having it just doesn't make any sense. That's why you see so many people go “Does Gaga not have one yet!? Why!??” Also tbh, I'm more excited about the prospect of watching THAT career-spanning greatest hits medley performance, that's far more exciting than the award itself. But yeah, Tricon was cute but I still want to see her get the Vanguard sometime this decade Edited August 5, 2023 by Marry Illusion Glory 1 2
EnigmaticAndroid Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 A little tipsy and Plastic Cvnt kinda hit tonight. It's honestly a pretty good pop song. Solid verses, one of the better-written pop choruses on the album, and the production is crisP. Obvi not some magnum opus or anything, but I think it's one of her more underrated tracks. 1 3
DonnieDarko Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Imo the only good thing that would emerge from her winning the Vanguard would be indeed the medley. VMA’s are done, literally no one cares apart from a handful of pop music fans. She’s been recognized by much more important awards organizations so I’m really ok with her not winning this one. Heck I even honeslty think the tricon one is way more fitting to what she acomplished than Vanguard.

I'd like to see another visually impressive era before she receives it too. 1

I'd like to see another visually impressive era before she receives it too. I'm not saying she "needs" it either, more like she deserves it and has rightfully earned it. Like I said, it's one of the only few awards that celebrates videographies and her videography deserves to be celebrated, that's one thing that we can all agree on. Also, the Tricon is a standalone award. It's not a replacement. They made it unequivocally clear when they gave it to her: "The Tricon Award is different from the VMAs' traditional Video Vanguard Award, which "is officially given in recognition of an [artist's] overall achievements in music and film, but is sometimes handed out as a lifetime achievement award," according to MTV. So if they choose not to, it's not because they already gave her the Tricon award. Personally, I think she might choose to (and I'd love to see her) receive it during another active era or a milestone career year (20th, 25th etc) assuming that they're still a thing then 1
