Regarding the comment about "Disease being too loud or not commercial enough," I think some of you might not remember how Poker Face or Bad Romance felt when they first came out. At the time, there was literally nothing like them on MTV/radio. Bad Romance especially—more than Poker Face—was downright "weird" to the average pop listener. But they clicked and ultimately transformed the pop landscape forever.

 

That said, we can just acknowledge that the general public didn't connect with Disease, or at least not enough to make it a hit and our fandom is almost completely dead. There's no need to make excuses imo

Yeah, I don't think Disease is really that radio unfriendly. It's more mainstream sounding than Perfect Illusion imo.

The sentiment that there was nothing like Gaga's early hits out there before hers is really played out. Obviously she stood out as evidenced by her smashing but that was more about her sensibility and songwriting, it wasn't like she invented a new sound. Her, Kat Deluna, and JLo shared a sample library be so fr.

She didn't invent a new sound, but it wasn't mainstream. Saying that JLO released songs similiar to Bad Romance (or Poker Face) is... a reach 

 

Disease isn't any more "alternative" or uncommercial than Bad Romance was. Gaga has never catered to radio or commercial trends, but as @GraceRandolph pointed out, Perfect Illusion was less palatable than Disease.

 

That being said, Disease is still an incredible song and no amount of floppage can change that

All the music we've heard from it was 10/10. Literally. 

Music will be good so lets hope commercial success will follow
