Yeah I am absolutely floored by the breakdown of her units moved.  I thought the Spotify numbers were indicative of overall success, but her audience seems to be buyers, which is amazing.  17,500 on digital sales alone is astounding, and it's really exciting when you realize that the album is still #1 on iTunes.  I didn't think an iTunes #1 meant anything anymore, but it does, apparently. I told myself I'd stop caring about numbers after release week was over, but I am curious to see how far the album drops on the BB200, because if she's still at #1 on iTunes and her CD's are selling out in a ton of retailers...that's a lot of her sales right there.

I also think that the podcasts are something she should do going forward.  People are really into podcasts and while I think that the talk show circuit is also very important and she should do that next album cycle if she can, they're more formulaic and the shows are just a revolving door of famous people where you lose a lot of what the person is actually there to talk about because everyone's focused on the celebrity aspect and everyone is there to promote something. With this album she's been making the podcast rounds and getting really personal about her story, it feels a little more grassroots and less of a robotic obligation for 7 minutes, and i feel like it's resonating.

This is what happens when you become a legacy artist, your dedicated fan base will actually buy physical copies because they have a history with the artist and they're invested in their success. Also want to add to their collections and it brings back a nostalgia to have things like vinyl.

And I mean legacy artist as a compliment - she may not always have the streaming numbers but she's managed to hold on to a decent sized fanbase which is great as not many 00's artists have.

I guess I just didn't think it would happen for KC that way, where she'd be the (positive) exception to a rule. I'm 27 and haven't purchased CDs since 2017, that's when my physical music consumption turned to almost exclusively vinyl.  When Kelly or another person that I love and follow through everything releases, I buy a CD/vinyl etc. I'm wondering if the talk show with an audience that skews a little older is what had a huge impact on physical and digital sales.  I'm a pessimist in these waters and really truly expected like 20k maybe 30K in total units/unit equivalents just because of how much the industry and consumption have changed since MOL was released + her not having a radio hit like she did in 2017.  Up until release week, it didn't feel like the album had that much presence or buzz and now I feel like many, many more people are talking about it.  So I am thrilled with how it seems to be connecting.

Same, I usually stream all my music except for when an artist I really love releases. I think a lot of younger people are getting into vinyl, but her talk show audience definitely helps.

Chemistry did well because she had different versions as well. She should lean more into that like Taylor does and do different vinyl bundles and colours. For example, when Kylie releases she does CD's, signed copies, vinyl bundles, even cassette tapes - people aren't listening to them but they buy them to collect. And her sales are huge because of it, everytime she releases she becomes the fastest selling vinyl of the year.

Hopefully streaming has longevity to match the physical sales.

Kelly and her team did a lot with different versions this go around. The bundles didn’t count until last week or this week as billboard reintroduced it as counting so it would have made no difference.

Yeah the different vinyls definitely get me.  Instead of just buying one CD and a digital copy, I now own like 6 different versions of the album instead.

Related, I hope there's a deluxe version cause I want more songs.

Welp. Looks like being #1 on iTunes all week didn’t help much. The album fell out of the top 50 this week on HDD. :skull:

Not surprising, but was hoping it could hang in. #50 sold just over 15k units.

I’m surprised they haven’t gone for a second single for vegas, but anyways, I think September they must have a plan for then. I wonder if they’re going to put all their eggs in lighthouse then and expect it to hold until Xmas music, then push SCYHM. Or the deluxe before, who knows.

so what are the current total sales?

One of the best interviews this cycle, what a moment. Loving that Terrell and Kelly's worlds finally collided :WAP:

This is her worst performing era ever but I already expected this since the album, the reception and the management overall is terribly handled.

Her next era ( 5 years from now or more) would be doing similar to this and needs to step up and collaborate with a high profile act.

I get the feeling we won’t be waiting much longer for another album. This one took so long because she was going through things. I think 2.5 years max for the next one especially if this gets Grammy buzz.

Album is #83.

The only benchmarks I have to guess are that #50 sold just just over 15K units and #168 (Kesha) sold 8.3K units. So maybe somewhere in the 13-14K range this week?  Unless someone has actual numbers.

Had the most random dream that Kelly was cast as Catwoman in Joker: Folie à Deux :skull::skull:

I love this album a lot. My holy trinity is magic, lighthouse and chemistry.

I am quite angry at Atlantic for not spending much on promo. They spent a lot more with MOL

My signed copy finally arrived today, woohoo! Sounds really good loud on my hi-fi.

The front and back of the CD is really pretty but I'm kind of disappointed by the booklet that is just the lyrics and not a single pic. :noparty:

Also finally getting more into the title track, the dreamy vibe is quite refreshing for Kelly. Also really like the acoustic guitar.

Embarrassing post*

The numbers are pretty good taking in all these factors: 20 years in her career, no hit single, no live performances and her 10th album.

These are the numbers of artists that started around the same time Kelly debuted

Christina Aguilera's Liberation (2018)
6 - 98 (-92)

Avril Lavigne's Love Sux (2022)
9 - 94 (-85)

Katy Perry's Smile (2020)
5 - 54 (-49)

Alicia Keys' Keys (2021)
41 - OUT

Aren't you tired of being a shitty person? Because I have never seen you post a single positive post about Kelly in the 10 years I've seen you in the base.

Whatever your problems are, get actual therapy because you clearly aren't happy right now.

They probably couldn't because Kelly was 1000% supporting the writer's strike.  Which is the right thing right now because we're on a edge of no return.

And we're on the precipice of the entire Actor's Guild going on strike which hasn't happened in over 63 years at the exact same time the writer's strike going on for two months now. Just saying, worker rights matter far more than promo in an era where Fascism is rearing its ugly head and I 100% think Kelly's background is why she's so stubborn to not promote her work at the moment.
