Honestly I think FKOH has had its chance and it didn’t take it. Album version gained 69k today on Spotify which is pretty awful for a new song. I expect Atlantic to be smart enough to see it’s not got the legs for it

Not you ignoring the Guetta remix that got 93k streams. That's 162k streams which is much better than anything else released so far. All together FKOH is streaming more daily than MLWSWY and Breakaway, and this is without an ounce of promo for it and no radio push. I think it could easily be a decent hit with a little push.

How many albums are left in her contract with Atlantic? I vaguely remember it was a 3 album contract and normally Christmas albums don’t count. So there’s only one left?

I don’t think any detail of the contract was ever published or leaked. Just that she had a lot of creative control.

It’s not a big deal in any case, we all want this era to get Kelly success and for people to discover the album. Also it’s a conversation worth exploring as we all want the second single to do better in that regard than mine did. And who knows, when all is said and done I might be proved wrong and it might be promo sensitive, but from what I’ve seen I’m not convinced as no jump happened from the viral flashmob (that has >4m views on her insta). But naturally, we don’t know what traditional promo might do for any song due to the strike.

The album version still has a Spotify playlist reach of 15.2m and the guetta remix still has a reach of 2m, which is  good for an album track, and if it had better placement and was on bigger playlists, it could do well. I’ve said that from the start and I’ve streamed it way over 400 times with both versions combined.

But it’s worry noting that the daily numbers with the guetta remix added aren’t great if we consider it a new single. But as an album track they are very good (so again, there is potential). At one point it looked like it could be promising, but it has slowed down quite a bit. If we look at the combined number of 162k a day, if it kept that pace, that would be equivalent to 60m in a year, which is fine, but not indicative of a hit and I think there are better potential songs on the album (but we won’t see that until the release). It is unlikely that it would keep that pace though as songs slow down the further they are from release.

Essentially we should be looking at around a bare minimum of 300k a day if we wanted to think about “hit potential”. (But does Kelly have that potential - Xmas songs success suggests there is still appetite for her music and the fact her older hits of BOY, Stronger and SUBG generally top 300k a day shows a bare benchmark when they’ll largely be streamed as nostalgia songs).

That said, fkoh might be the one that has best response on streaming. I do think Atlantic considered giving it single treatment given the timing of its release (away from other songs) and the remix. But the fact nothing has been done yet in terms of promo or push to radio leads me to think they’re not convinced by the reaction. I think they’re aware they missed some opportunities with WLW, and they’ve seen how B&B did, e.g. in its 4th year, it was getting 50k dailies, and in its first 3 years it averaged 113k dailies (I don’t have the breakdowns for each of those years, but the first year would’ve been considerably more than the average over the 3 and a bit years).

With FKOH, from the spreadsheet that I track the dailies and annuals for Kelly, it’s worth noting that MLWSWY and breakaway don’t have the most amazing recurrent streams so out streaming those songs isn’t the best achievement for a “single”. For an album track, though, it’s very very good. So again, there is potential. Personally, while I see the potential in the numbers, I also see how they underwhelm. The guetta remix has peaks and troughs. It isn’t consistent with its numbers: for example, yesterdays update was 93 (day 24), day 21 was 56k and the first week had some streaming days of under 35k. It couuuld potentially have some organic hit potential but I’d say that the fact we don’t have an official second single before album release speaks volumes for me.

anyways, let’s just hope for the best numbers for the whole project, even if it means no hit (and if FKOH continues as it is doing without single treatment then that would make a good help for the project).

I am holding out for the release on Friday but am excited for Skip This Part & Lighthouse based on what y’all are saying.

But y’all can also stop doing the most with FKOH. It’s a great bop if you take it for what it is. She’s not going for lyrical genius. It sounds like she wanted a track you can dance to and she achieved that.

Album is a grower, not a shower. It’s not as raw as maybe expected for a divorce album. The songs already released are definitely some of the weakest. I feel like she should have released the album all at once, that would have made it more justice. It’s a blend between Stronger, Piece By Piece and All I Ever Wanted with a hint of MOL.

FKOH is not disliked because it isn't lyrically on par with Sober or Because of You. I think most people think it fell short of being a euphoric dance number it could have been. The chorus, to me, feels like a prechorus. If it had some instrumental breakdown that tries to capture how the "high" feels in sound, that would have greatly elevated the song. As is, it feels very one-note and forgettable. If you enjoy it, that's fine. But people are also allowed to express their dislike of it. Part of the era is people sharing their unfiltered thoughts on the music and that includes criticism.

Remember when the base hated Move You when MOL came out back in 2017? It's all part of experiencing an era.

I think this a solid and balanced analysis. well done. My one correction here is that ''me" got > 5 mil views on tik tok, where FKOH only got around 1 mil. The me flash mob went viral because I think it came out first and got the headlines.

my take away is that FKOH does have poetical general public appeal. It's not my favorite from the album but it's a good radio friendly, dance floor/remix friendly summer bop.

as size note from another thread, someone compared take you high to FKOH and I do stand by that FKOH >>>> TYH

Hard disagree here, bb. I'm not the biggest TYH fan, but it's such a fun electro pop song from her and it was divine to experience it live with the elevated background vocal. The instrumental breakdown feels so euphoric and makes the song work.

To each their own. Personally, I can't find a reason to relisten to TYH and if I did, I can't make it though the full song. Just being honest. I appreciate it as something she experimented with at the time.

Anyways, I’m surprised that chemistry was once a skip for me but wow listening to it more awake in a summer evening and it snuck up on me. What a gorgeous song :gaycat4: on repeat

I was just listening and I totally agree. Gorgeous song. The back to back of chemistry, FKOH, and magic is actually really beautiful.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if “that’s right” ended up doing really well. In isolation it’s reallly fun, just so bizarre on the album lmao, but I can actually see it going one of two ways :fan:
