Kelly Clarkson

Okay here are my two cents after listening to the whole thing from top to bottom.

Spoiler

Overall this album feels like a mature version of My December (in terms of expressing personal feelings) plus Stronger (in terms of incorporating various sounds). A lot of similarites between this album and Kellyoke/WCCA. I would agree chemistry is kinda like a blend of 30 and star-crossed, but it is still a 100% Kelly Clarkson record and you can tell these songs come from her heart. And that’s good enough for me.

Plus there are so many potential single choices. The only songs that didn’t 100% click with me were my mistake & me. The rest is like GUUUUUUURL.

i don't get the hate for TR...it's a cute song

I don’t think people hate it that much. Most people just seem confused by it. I think I’ll ironically stan it because it’s so funny to me and listening to it for the first time was quite the experience. All of us on chat listening at the same time we’re losing it.

Just finished listening the album. My review/first impression:

Spoiler

-skip this part: Her best album opener, the last minute alone :jonny3:

-mine: A beautiful song, it was a good taste of the album (and the only thing her team did right by releasing it first)

-high road: Her voice on this song sounds so clean. It feels a bit long, but I enjoyed it. Heard the cover and the sound of the song is the same, but Kelly's vocals make it so much better than the original.

-me: I really like it, Kelly was feeling every word of this song. I feel that most of the lyrics feel very generic, but it has a lot of replay value, it's very sing-along

-down to you: a smah, the chorus is so catchy :katie2:

-chemistry: It's very calm, sounds like a mix of Sober and Breakaway in a good way, the way she sings this song is so beautiful :smitten:

-favorite kind of high: I don't think this song is awful (as I remembered it) but it feels so out of place in the album, especially coming after "chemistry". Also sounds very dated like a 2014 pop song. I don't think it's bad, but it's one of the weakest songs in the album (that don't even fit with the sound).

-magic: This is probably the song with the most replay value for me :jonnycat: it's also a very pop song but it sounds so fresh and chill, love the production of the song. Her team should have released this song, the chorus is so addictive!!

-lighthouse: The best song on the album, the sound is very similar to "Tightrope" but to me this is better at first listen. Love the lyrics and her voice. "No shooting stars can fix what we are" :cries:

-rock hudson: The chorus kinda sounds like Mr. Know It All. I enjoyed it, the lyrics are good. But I'm gonna need some time with the song. I don't think it has much replay value for me.

-my mistake: The bridge WHEEEEEWWWW :falcon:, I don't know why but it sounds like a early 2000's song

-red flag collector: Very boring, I hate that the first verse sounds in LQ. I don't care that it was made intentionally, makes the song sounds like a concept demo. One of the fillers of the album.

-i hate love: sounds like a Target bonus track, also another filler.

-that's right: This song caught me off guard , it really don't fit with the sound of this album at all. It sounds like a song Camila Cabello would release. I don't dislke it tho (I prefer it over RFC and IHL), it kinda sounds like a song that would play during the credits of a low-cost movie, so I guess that's why it's the final track.

Overall I'm really surprised with this album :clap3: I don't think it's one of her best albums, but it's far from being one of her worst (as I expected). I'm not mad that they released the worst songs first, since I was pleasantly surprised with the new songs. The vibe and mood of the album is very chill and intimate compared to most of her previous albums that sound very euphoric, Kelly's voice shines (as always) and it's a nice addition to her discography. A song like "Nostalgic" would have fit the album (and be a better option than FKOH).

Magic really is that song! Love lighthouse so so so so much! Down to you is an earworm and rock Hudson is so good in the pre chorus. I also love high road so much. Ugh so many potential radio singles, really happy with this album and just hope they make an evidence based decision for singles now :bird:

When would they typically push a second single. I'm torn because I think FKOH has the best chance for being a hit. But I also love down to you

Apparently, we don't care for singles anymore... just TikTok viral songs :shakeno:

(and if that's the case, then they should send "me" to radio LOL)

Also, please put reviews in spoiler tags... since the album hasn't officially been released :bird:

You do understand that critics review the album before official release right?Reviews will be coming in tomorrow.

Honestly I think FKOH has had its chance and it didn’t take it. Album version gained 69k today on Spotify which is pretty awful for a new song. I expect Atlantic to be smart enough to see it’s not got the legs for it

Yeah, and critics get the album legally to review in advance...

What's wrong with asking members to hide reviews for those of us who don't want to be spoiled before the album actually comes out? Sheesh

Hi babes, long time no see :gaycat4:

Out of respect for those who are waiting, I'm just gonna say I'm so slayed.

The album slays more than I expected after the first songs released :WAP:

But what the hell is this placement, who thought this was a good transition?

Like the best way I could describe it is, when you're fckin your man, reaching the multi O in heaven

and then your man's condom brokes and everything stops abruptly and you are just like wtf

I wonder if it’s from the end of Skip This Part but sped up?

I’m sorry but Jason sucks at teasers :rip:

I wonder if it's a remix that will come out of one of the songs. Or maybe a song from the deluxe version

I never once said to stop discussing the album, just to use spoiler tags for full reviews out of respect for others, which is "not that hard" either. :cm:

I don’t know if this is the high talking of hearing the new album, but I’m leaning towards this being her best album.

just did a listening party with a friend while driving and it sounds sooo good in the car. She’s wasn’t that of a fan of kellys own music, still she managed to love every song on the album.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the evolution of Because of You -> Piece By Piece -> Rock Hudson.

The way Kelly ended the trilogy by making herself the hero of the arc is nothing short of brilliant :heart2:
