Megan and Lizzo, mostly Megan’s, album numbers has made me a tiny bit worried about her next album. They do about the same.

I don’t trust RCA not to lock her down like they did Tinashe or are doing to Normani if she doesn’t deliver good numbers.

Her situation is different from the other girls though. Megan and Lizzo's brands/celebrity power overshadows their actual selling power RCA didn't know how to market Tinashe. Don't know what the **** is happening with Normani. Point is, she's in a much more different position than the other girls. And her streaming numbers/charting history are proof of that. She just needs to come through with another surefire hit like SS/KMM to set her up well.

Basically.

And Megan honestly never really pulled the #s people thought she did.  I’m a fan, and can even admit that.

That’s why I used to get pissed when Megan stans on here used to **** on Doja success.  Now that Planet Her dropped they mad quiet :skull:

Doja was NEVER in the same position as Megan.  Was as clear as day, even when she was a “one hit wonder”.

The only way Doja can mess this up, is by waiting too late to release or being too avant-garde with her lead single.

Besides that one stan who still tries it

And I agree with that last part too. As much as I'm sure she wants to drop the rap album to prove to people she's rapper, she needs another cross over smash to seal the deal first.

Yeah some of the Megan and Cardi stans were on Doja's NECK back in the 2020. By the end of 2021 the loud ones got quite.

I think her next album will debut with 150k

Planet Her did 109k

You’re right but we can’t ignore the unpredictable variables in Planet Her success. Its longevity is partly attributed to to the singles going viral.

The unreliableness of their strategy and rca’s treatment of their artists is what I’m concerned about above all.

I’m not saying this to be downer but I consider her and Megan to be in the same position. The success of their album depends on the success of the single(s).

Megan new album is solid but her good will was tarnished because of the string of questionable singles and Good News reception.

Doja is coming off Planet Her and it was better received. She has that advantage but I didn’t think it’s enough.

What I know for sure is that her success will depend on her music’s good will with gp, the material she returns with and that it cannot be a hiphop album.

I mean, ain’t that most artists these days?Lol.  Who has dropped an album lately without a hit single + still did well?

What I do know is that she has an ear for good music.  So, I’m not particularly worried.  The songs will be catchy melodically.  She just better not get too brave with the lead single (production).

This hip-hop album got y’all shook :ahh:

She also said Planet Her was mostly R&B, and then mostly Rap before it dropped  …….. so, I’ll just wait until info starts leaking before I make any judgements.

i doubt she will do worse than PH first week  tbh (which wasn’t even bad imo)

she needs to make sure the lead single is another pop rap smash and then the rest of the album can be pure hip hop or whatever she's trying to do. :coffee:

However I will say I hope she attempts to make another cohesive album, Amala is the only album of hers that sounds like a concise project with a clear sonic direction and she detests that one :rip: .

Doja is much bigger than Megan :rip: I think y’all still have trauma from 2020 when the Megan stans were on Doja’s neck 24/7

I agree that her album success is dependent on her singles to a degree, but she’s proved herself a reliable hit maker. Even the songs that didn’t do as well (ie YR and GIIY) still performed better than Megs droplets this year.

I do think Doja is in a weird position right now because it seems like she gets a lot of hate online but it’s not really reflecting in her sales etc. rn, but who knows for the next era. I think she’ll be fine as long as she releases good music.

I need another Rules esque song, preferably as the lead for DC4, i really do...

i really want her to drop more songs with her RAPPING the hook as well. We all know she can sing but the times she's rapped on a chorus are very here and there in her discography. I can only think of Rules and Tia Tamera that have her rapping on the chorus.

NTK one of the songs I feel he at least did the beat.

Just because Doja never been in the studio with him, doesn’t mean he didn’t send her beats (like he did with “SS”).

Unless y’all saw her working on the beat?  All I recall is her humming the melody on a live.

I’m seeing all her peers underperform or flop, so I’ve gotten a little worried. :dancehall3:
But you guys are right. its best to wait and see what she comes back with and she does have an ear for hits.

If he’s credited as a main producer, he did it. You Right, NTK, and Tonight are his production. Doja already said she gets sent beats.

I found the old livestream where she sang NTK.

She hummed the melody but It looks to me that she was in the songwriting stage.

She went off!
