idk how well his physicals will do this time around if that'll be enough to propel him back to #1 (even w signed copies), Morgan Encanto is just getting stronger as WDTAB continues to explode

Well it’s a good thing this is that rapper’s home country and where one would expect him to do good

what were you even trynna get at?

Possibly that mainstream popstars are not doing as well anymore and that a genre of music that performs well on streaming has artists (hip hop) who are not required to be that well known but will get the core audience of the straight male demo to stream it strongly for one week which has blocked a few popstars from #1.

I mean this has been going on for years but for those still not getting it...rap artists don't need a huge base but enough of a base where the music (usually covering the same 4-5 topics) connects to an audience of people (regardless of taste) that will stream big briefly.

It shouldn't come as a surprise anymore but this is prime example when someone has huge as the weeknd can get blocked by a rapper for the moment.

valid points. I know the label must be cringing.

LOL.

Yeah he's known to the younger generation listening to hip hop and those who listen to all generations of hip hop I'm sure...but Billboard isn't a global chart so...

Right the hip hop fans on ATRL will always serve emotional reactions when this happens knowing that these albums typically tumble after week 1 because the straight demo dominating streaming will stream it for a week and then go on to the next.

But...this has been happening for like 5 years now so it shouldn't be a surprise when another rapper captures the top demo for streaming debut week.

Now that digitals and physicals are antiquated popstars are very hit or miss with the numbers they push to which an artist as big as the weeknd would get blocked.

It's been the sign of the times...for about 5 years now

Exactly. They did the same when Summer's projections came out too. I promise you no one cares about who's relevant in Bolivia or Moldova :lmao:

OT: After all the stunts and tactics and still #2:ahh:

These threads kill me cause users call these artists “unknown locals” but they snatching #1s. And when they succeed the narrative changes to talent lost :skull: – Gunna is equally as talented. People needed educated themselves.

I love Abel but this album wasn’t stellar and #2 debut is extremely good.

Ok Gunna being "equally as talented" is doing a bit much considering he has excellent production and great features but his solo songs are extremely lacking ( like name one solo song that's good? Even on this album...the lil baby feature is the best one because they ride on the flow together) but this ATRL narrative on rappers not Drake  when Rap is the dominant music in the US is tiring.

I personally find DAWN FM Abels best studio album to date ( but that personal preference) but I understand the lack of GP appeal. It take several listens to appreciate and there's no true GP consuming bops outside of Out of Time and Less than Zero.

Both did well and Abel has  another chance at the end of the month anyway when physicals come out and will do well overall with the tour promo.

Tbh lets be happy for both Abel & Gunna. If rap isn’t your thing cool - but don’t embarass yourself lol.

Honestly, good for Gunna and his label. This is a big win.
