Spoiler

Aaliyah - lyrically.. this does it all needs to do to, to be a perfect fit. The other judges like the song a lot, but it's sadly not my favorite. It's chill and not bad but it's kinda my least fav song i've heard thus far from her. Overall a great job tho

Billie Eilish - the peace and calmness that this song exudes, especially in a discography like Billie's, makes it truly stand out. I think it's actually a great fit, taking a similar approach to Aaliyah's approach and truly making it seem like the one they fell in love with is special. Very pretty and one of my fav billie songs too, absolutely adore the outro

Charli XCX - when this did become good.. something shifted :jonny2:

also fits very well x

chloe x halle - like pretty much all songs this round it fits; so I'll just stop commenting on that unless it doesn't but yeah x

this song itself was fine but wasn't a big fan of chloë's breathy delivery. Not bad tho

demi lovato - mostly like Unbroken, at least for demi's standards, but this always felt.. one of the more uninteresting cuts. There's nothing bad here but I will forget it when the next song rolls around

Ellie Goulding - cheap points grab!

jk it's the classic and one of the best pop songs of all time. It's very rare for a song to be so perfectly executed

King Gizzard - stunning song with the guitar work, clocking in at more than 8 minutes, it def overstays its welcome a bit but it's still great. Unique, with a nice buildup.

Miley Cyrus - it's not my fav miley song :heart2: but yes it fits nicely good job on that

Red Velvet - classic after classic.. idk if i should listen to their whole discography now or save some to be surprised later.. either way excellent pop song

Shakira - personal taste counts more than ever before this round with essentially all songs fitting, and so sadly this song is not that great. I'll applaud you for going with a more unknown cut, but this risk has sadly not really paid off. She is a great performer so.. good luck with the sing off!

Shania Twain - prolly my fav song you sent of Shania so far. The subtle country elements, the additional vocal layering, and just the very simple but cozy feel this exudes.. very lovely

Sufjan Stevens - hmmm idk how to feel about this one personally. The instrumental, whilst memorable... feels like it switches from classic Sufjan to somewhat jarring and random sounds. Idk if I'm a big fan, but this is lyrically gorgeous

Taylor Swift - considering all the other shite singles that preceded this album, this was def a breathe of fresh air. Not my favorite song here, but i love that without having a strong connection to it, it still makes me feel nostalgic somehow.

Tinashe - sadly one of my least favs from SFY. It's.. just not that interesting.

Tove Lo - the chorus on this is a bit clunky but I do really like the verses

Troye Sivan - hmm i think your write up sold this indeed

whitney houston - absolute classic

 Kavish ⛧ Kritiques

~

@Element – Aaliyah – One In A Million

This song 100% speaks for itself. It is minimalistic yet pulls you in with its seductive tone.

@shelven – Billie Eilish – Halley's Comet

True, it may not sound "happy" in the traditional sense, but it doesn't sound sad either. It's delightfully melodic and giving romantic slow-dance vibes. The outro is also dreamy and paints a picture of Billie fantasizing about the person she is in love with.

@clue - Charli XCX – claws

Reads like a one-sided infatuation, but the general positive attitude about it overpowers the feeling of aloneness that she expresses and it renders the whole song cute instead of desperate. Unlike "Unlock It", the repetition in this one is infectious and the clunky sounds are even engaging. A short bop with replay value.

@Not Like The Movies – Chloe x Halle – Who Knew

Pretty unique subject matter for this round and also on theme. I like the atmospheric vibe accompanying their great vocal harmonization and thumping beat.

@Rotunda - Demi Lovato – My Love is Like a Star

First of all I wish you all the best with your situation. Lowkey screaming at "if you see a comet I'm on it", but the lyrics are overall sweet and fitting. The delivery however is making me sad rather than happy or romantic, and the song itself is pretty average for Demi's standards.

@touya kinomoto - Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do

A modern classic. The longing in her soft voice over the powerful drums offer such a grand declaration of love.

@Drifloon - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Her and I (Slow Jam 2)

It's a great fit lyrically. The song itself is the most experimental one that you have presented so far, thus showcasing how diverse the band really is. Instruments seem to be their strongest suit, and they provided a lot of that here. The pleasurable psychedelic sounds put you in a dreamy daze and is the musical equivalence of daydreaming about your lover.

@boys - Miley Cyrus – When I Look At You

An underrated gem. Love how Miley starts out vulnerable and gets more confident as the song progresses, and that's a clever way to reflect the positive effects of what happens when she looks at the person. The electric guitar solo during the bridge elevates it even more.

@mokitsu - Red Velvet – Kingdom Come

Thank you for always providing links for the translation. Very considerate, we love that. Even without the lyrics, the song sounds so lovely, warm, and velvety, and encapsulates the feeling of being in love wonderfully.

@Opulent - Shakira – No Creo

Despite fitting, the lyrics are a bit messy. Not sure how I would feel if someone said some of these lines while opening their heart to me. Flattering for sure, but also eyebrow-raising. I'm also disappointed with the song choice because Shakira has a lot of loving-sounding songs and this energetic direction doesn't evoke the same emotions as some of her softer songs would.

@Auburn - Shania Twain – You're Still the One

A quintessential love or wedding playlist song. It feels like a warm embrace where everything finally feels right and perfect.

@Noah - Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!

The lyrical content is layered and open to interpretation and your description is one way to look at it, but there seems to be more going on there than just a happy romantic love story. Sonically, it's another adventurous, whimsical and mellifluous experience.

@Rence - Taylor Swift – Lover

The bridge is really the centerpiece of the song and captures what she meant for the song to be : a profession of love in the form of wedding vows. This was not just a love song for her; it was THE love song that she wrote for the right person, and therefore the perfect pick for Taylor this round.

@Tom Vercetti - Tinashe – Life's Too Short

Oh wow she really wants him. Very sultry and sensual, and the chorus is catchy.

@ughgabriel- Tove Lo – Not on Drugs

A bop. The chorus is explosive and highlights how this love is more thrilling than drugs for her. For once.

@luckystrike - Troye Sivan – What a Heavenly Way to Die

The beautiful and calming sound mirrors the lyrics : the moment that you have found someone special, so you can finally rest in peace. I'm noticing now that he refers to death, heaven, angel, and so on in his songs. We stan a subtle dark king.

@PinkBox - Whitney Houston – How Will I Know

The song demonstrates the stage of infatuation, when you are crushing on someone and you don't know whether the person likes you or not. This feeling of confusion and desperation is therefore a contrast to the happy feeling of being with each other. Whitney even describes the situation as "bittersweet" in the song, so I wouldn't say that it's completely lovey-dovey, but there's no denying that it's an absolute classic.

OVERPROTECTED'S CRITIQUES

Spoiler

Aaliyah - One In a Million - At your best (you are love) was right there!! Oh well this is still a perfect fit for the love theme, it might be a biT overrated but it’s still a big classique.

Billie Eilish - Halley's Comet - Very lovely lyrics they feel vulnerable without becoming too cliche or corny, I personally found most of the song boring sans the piano outro I thought that was very interesting.

Charli XCX - claws - Um I guess it fits, I’m not really feeling the love though more like a crush, I hate the production here too.

Chloe x Halle - Who Knew - This song kinda passes me by, the lyrics are a good fit for the round but the delivery and energy of the song didn’t match the feeling and message me thinks.

Demi Lovato - My Love Is Like a Star - Kinda cheesy but I got the feeling of love from this one in a dated 00’s way, kinda relatable too :nickicry:

Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do - I was kinda expecting to hate on this overplayed classic but it kinda aged nicely I’m surprised. It’s hitting a bit too hard for an ellie goulding song what is going on.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Her and I (Slow Jam 2) - Sounds cool dude, the lyrics fit but they’re kinda basique for an indie act ngl.

Miley Cyrus - When I Look At You - I have a lot of nostalgia attached to this song but I don’t remember her sounding this rough in the chorus. Besides that the song is great for the theme x

Red Velvet - Kingdom Come - Oh wow these lyrics are great, nailed it for the theme although I gotta say this is probably my least favorite of what I’ve heard from them thus far, it’s not very interesting sonically.

Shakira - No Creo - Anti communism queen oh wow, I’m gonna ignore that cause these lyrics are very cute otherwise. Also I applaud you for sending something from this classic album, I’m bopping.

Shania Twain - You're Still the One - Wow that was so powerful, yeah.

Sufjan Stevens - The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! - Bisexual king made some points here yeah.

Taylor Swift - Lover - This is a good choice but I’m sure she had better less basic choices than this.

Tinashe - Life's Too Short - This kinda has some sad undertones to it but I'm gonna pretend I do not notice that because this is her best song ahh.

Tove Lo - Not On Drugs - Very cute, doesn’t hit like other love songs but I buy it.

Troye Sivan - What a Heavenly Way to Die - It fits theme wise but the song itself is kinda just there, it doesn’t go anywhere and he sounds bored, not in love.

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know - Really cute for a throwback.

Donde Estan Los Ladrones? is her best album but it might not have aged too well, especially for first time listeners :'(
Maybe Dia de Enero would've been a better choice for a spanish song!! Hope you survive the sing-off <3
