Staryu Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Katy Perry - E.T. The 2nd best single from TD era (TD is my fave). I feel like this was a big moment, I remember my straight friends stanning and was surprised. The lyrics are fun, I love the cosmic theme, the production snapped, Lukasz did that. Beyoncé - Love On Top Such a feel good song, it sounds timeless, it's top tier Bey discography, it's euphoric and a top 3 Bey song for me, I love happy feel good songs and this is Britney Spears - Toxic Quintessential Britney, a flawless pop song, one that will always be remembered, it never ages, top tier Britney, top 3 of her discography. The gays and the straights love it, she united people with this one. Ariana Grande - Into You This hasn't really aged badly at all for me? Maybe because I didn't overplay it into the ground like a lot of you homosexuals. It's a big bop, Valentina made it iconic. Rihanna - Pour It Up I love this song, it has a darkness to it to me, I can feel the seedy strip club it's playing in when I listen to it. All I see is signs, all I see is dolla $igns
smholiv Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 @Kavish @Alena @Noah @ughgabriel@Element Katy Perry - E.T. Doesn't hit as hard as these other songs. It was fine for the time but doesn't offer anything to me that elevates it past a "fine song". I always felt that way honestly, it just sort of blurs into the time period it came out in for me. Beyoncé - Love On Top Now here's the CLASSIC! I love 4 because it has a timeless feel to it, and this song strikes me in particular as standing out as one of those "insta-classics". Basically feels like Beyonce at her best, balancing her artistry with a song that is just genuinely catchy and feel-good. Britney Spears - Toxic Definitely get why this is typically referred to as one of the best pop songs of the '00s. It's got so many different things going on and yet it makes use of every component. The sample is unique, the production is slick and still feels suitable, it's basically one of THOSE pop moments that lives on forever. Ariana Grande - Into You And then we have one of those pop moments people think will live on forever. I've always found this to be nothing special. I get the appeal, the production has a slight hardened edge but is still polished enough to make it feel like a very sleek pop song. The chorus (and pre-chorus) are great of course, like this song is definitely GOOD. But I guess that "extra" charm hasn't hit me quite yet. And when I'm comparing a song like this to other entries well... you know where I'm going with this. Rihanna - Pour It Up This is like... almost annoying but not? Basically a song that probably would be kind of awful if given to literally anyone else, but this is a great example of Rihanna's star power and her unique "cool-factor" where she can pull a song like this off and not only make it work, but make it kind of excellent. An underrated moment in Rihanna's continuous HIT catalogue.
ughgabriel Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 katy perry - e.t. great song, in my opinion!! there has always been something about this that i love. it could be the paranormal nature of the song’s subject or the dark sound of it. the similarities this song has with “all the things she said” is also a great plus for me. my favorite song teenage dream and could easily be my favorite katy song <3 beyoncé - love on top this is my first time listening to this song actually! like, i knew the name of the song and its existence but i never got the chance to listen before. i love the feeling this song conveys. it has a very bright production and i love how happy it can make you feel. it feels like the ending of a very wholesome movie where everyone gets their happy ending in a very realistic way. i swear i can picture the protagonist giving their final monologue and then the credits start rolling up as this song plays britney spears - toxic AHHHHHH!! this song is honestly so iconic. to me, this song is probably her signature song because it is the first song of hers i ever heard and it was also the first song in english i ever heard. i remember thinking it was super fun, catchy, unique and i don’t think i’ve ever heard something quite similar to this song. like, it’s super authentic and unique but it has a quality that makes it very digestible and everyone can appreciate this song for what it is. great great ariana grande - into you i’m going to be honest here… i don’t love this song. when i first heard the song i thought, yeah it’s a cool song but it doesn’t hit me as hard as it does other people. i do love the pre chorus and that part gives me chills. but yeah :c rihanna - pour it up i love basically anything that rihanna does so that’s a point in your favor. this song is also in my top 3 of her singles. i feel like this was one of the first songs and videos in modern music where a woman embraced her sexuality as a sign of power. would definitely be my stripper song if i ever were to work at a strip club
Noah Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Katy Perry - E.T. - one of her best Beyoncé - Love On Top - classic Britney Spears - Toxic - talented brilliant incredible etc. Ariana Grande - Into You - iconic gay smash Rihanna - Pour It Up - cute bop
Alena Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 my thoughts, semi-finale Katy Perry - E.T. - one of her best! love the dark vibe of the song and it's just super catchy. Beyoncé - Love On Top - the happy vibes of the song are super cute and it's a catchy fun sing uwu. Britney Spears - Toxic - a classic!! i've always loved this song ahhh, definitely one of her best singles ever. even the video is one of the most iconic videos of all time. Ariana Grande - Into You - Ariana's best single to me and also one of her best songs in general. Pop perfection. Rihanna - Pour It Up - one of my favorites by Rihanna <3 makes you feel like the baddest b*tch in town :praise:. ♥
Kavish Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 ⸸ Kavish ⛧ Kritiques ⸸ ~ Katy Perry – E.T. Beyoncé - Love On Top Britney Spears – Toxic Ariana Grande - Into You Rihanna - Pour It Up There was a time when "Into You" sounded like perfection, but the wonderment has worn off due to the fact that the singer has released better and more Ariana-defining songs since. While "Pour It Up" provides a chill moment, it is unfortunately not an essential Rihanna entry as one would expect for this round. For example, "Love on Top" and "Toxic" are quintessential songs for their respective artists, and "E.T." is a Teenage Dream classic. Ariana's once Top 10 song and Rihanna's "chill" just aren't enough against Beyonce's engaging key-changes, Britney's intoxicating beat and melody, and Katy's knack for a pop hit. Despite all being great songs, the ranking process has never been easier. ~
ATRL Moderator Element Posted October 4, 2021 ATRL Moderator Posted October 4, 2021 Katy Perry - E.T. YASSSSSSSSS this song was it from the minute I heard it back in 2010 Teenage Dream the era is why I'm on ATRL and this song just... really sucked me into loving Katy's music. It hits so much a decade+ later. I am really crossing my fingers for you that the others don't see "Katy" and automatically assume her song deserves a lower rank than the other songs, because this is such a classic and a blueprint. Beyoncé - Love On Top WHEWWWWW the key changes ahhhh suddenly I've ascended. She really did everything right on this track to create something special. It's bright, mesmerizing, and unforgettable. I love @ughgabriel's reference to the credits at the end of a movie bc I could definitely see it shining there. Ultimately, it's a vocal masterclass and deserves the praise mhm Britney Spears - Toxic CLASSICCCCCCC. lit rally i don't know a single person who doesn't love this song? it was a cultural reset in every sense of the word. deserved #1 on the hot 100 for months. you might have snatched a win this round i fear! Ariana Grande - Into You AHHHHHHHHH the pop perfection bop! this song came out on my birthday 5 years ago and i was in love!! it's so sweet and so infectious. i really have to ask myself how it compares to E.T. and Love On Top and Toxic here though because those three are amazing too. Rihanna - Pour It Up OKAYYYYYYY so. Yeah. This is a great song. Such a vibe and it rly punches in the chorus. In a normal round, I think it would rank pretty high for me. Unfortunately, it's the weakest link of these five entries for moi. I'm sorry!!
Overprotected Posted October 5, 2021 Author Posted October 5, 2021 Katy Perry - E.T. - This hasn’t aged badly I’m surprised, it’s just a very good pop song I love the way the chorus has the same melody line as the verses but amped up and of course the pre-chorus and bridge sound out of this world Beyoncé - Love On Top - yass such a fun mood lifting song, love the retro elements in the production and of course she sounds amazing. The key changes are fun to attempt to sing along to. Britney Spears - Toxic - A perfect timeless song omg from the hindi sample to her sexy light vocals to the immaculate production Ariana Grande - Into You - A cute pop song, it’s well crafted and she sounds good but I fear it just doesn’t stand up against the three previous classics. Rihanna - Pour It Up - This is a cute little bop but one that aged and it’s just not that great for the semi finale I fear.
thecptz Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Katy Perry - E.T. love the futuristic vibe~ i think this is rlly one of the first katy songs that i liked so yea its an enjoyable listening i also just love how every drop still hits like so hard, whew.. such a good song tbh x INFECT ME WITH UR LOVING AHHHHH listening to this now after hadnt listened to it for a bit, it still sounds so fresh and urgh soooooo good Beyoncé - Love On Top speaking of the classic, THIS is that classic. i'm surprised this hadnt been used before and u snatched it this round lmao one of the best beyonce songs and everything about this song is just chefs kiss truly. i can't even tell u how much i enjoy this. Britney Spears - Toxic oh period. i love this song so much and its just so fun to listen to it and can't help but bopping my head along the production is also very great and really adds that thing to the whole song, perf. Ariana Grande - Into You ahhhhhh oh yea this is one of my faves from ariana and its a gay classic, yes. so hot and so sexy but compared to other songs, it fell a bit short still, i love it so much and it just sucks that this round has lots of classic..... yea Rihanna - Pour It Up it's cute but it's not enough compared to all these songs Spoiler @ughgabriel @Alena @Element @Kavish @Noah
Navyofbadgals Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 E.T. - Her best #1 smash and I stand by that! Just a really fun song that still has the fun Katy flair without feeling corny. Also despite it being an obvious early 10s song with its sound, it has aged really well. Very solid! LOVE ON TOP - absolute classic and will be regarded as Beyoncé's best song. Nobody could've done this song but Bey. I feel like this is the best combination of her as an insane performer and vocalist. This song has all the things that I love about Beyoncé. Absolute classic and by far the best song this round, and that with all 5 songs being iconic TOXIC - her second best song behind Break The Ice. The elements of Bhangra music are so well incorporated. Definition of pop perfection INTO YOU - ridiculously overrated. I don't know when the gheys collectively decided that this was her best song when she has so many better ones. Anyways this is still good but doesn't hold up to the rest of the songs in this round POUR IT UP - funny how this would've smashed so hard if it was released a few years later. Totally ahead of its time and I mean it. Still goes as hard as it did on day one. Spoiler @ughgabriel @Alena @Element @Kavish @Noah
