touya kinomoto Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 nnn Poor Fake making a reappearance in VL but it reappearing after its original sender was eliminated last round is kinda sending me
Alena Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 my thoughts, round 15 Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake - there are some elements to the song that i really love but it doesn't quite HIT for me. it's okay though ^^. Avril Lavigne - Hot - ahhhhh!! i used to love this song and it's definitely one of my favorite songs by Avril. It's a very interesting and cool song UwU. the song keeps evolving through out it and i luv that. Prince - I Would Die 4 U - i could definitely see this song in like a movie! like it's giving soundtrack vibes. it's not exactly something i'd look for but it's decent. FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart - yess! this was one song that i thought of sending but i didn't really like the intro so i decided not to.. BUT after the intro i really do love it. her voice is so special and beautiful to me and her songs always manage to keep my attention. TWICE - Breakthrough - what a bop!!! i love twice and this song is no expection. loved it. Rosalia - Bagdad - this was very hard for me to listen ffff, sorry but absolutely not. Kylie Minogue - Chocolate - it's chill. way too long but it's middle of the pack for me. Nick Bridgers - Georgia - WINNER. ♥
ughgabriel Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 (edited) kelsey lu - poor fake this was cool. it sounds like something you’d hear at an indie party. what i liked the most was the atmosphere, the addition of the strings and the vocal layers that were added to this song. it had an hypnotic nature, overall! avril lavigne - hot in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth. the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. and the spirit of god was hovering over the face of the waters. then god said, ‘let there be light’; and there was hot by avril lavigne. and god stanned the song, that it was good; and god divided the light from the darkness. god called the light the best damn thing, and the darkness he called resilient. prince - i would die 4 u this is really nice! i wish it wasn’t as repetitive as it is but i like it and appreciate that it’s short. the production is super upbeat and full of energy. i dig it, yeah fka twigs - mirrored heart this is in my top 3 on magdalene. loooooove this song. in fact, i gave a little speech at my brother’s wedding referencing the meaning of this song. so beautiful and heartbreaking. the entirety of the bridge is AMAZING twice - breakthrough GREAT BOP! i feel like this song is a bit underrated, it always puts me in such a joyful mood!! i like how it incorporates the big pop hooks we all love while also adding some extra flavor with some subtle but effective urban elements rosalia - bagdad you’re lucky my first language is spanish and i like rosalia a lot. this is one of my faves of her. good luck, hope the moki pandering pays off kylie minogue - chocolate i loveeee the production on this, it’s super smooth and the intricate elements are soooo good. i do have to comment that i feel like this song would be a better fit for… someone with better vocals djskhfsj or idk if it’s the vocal effect what’s bothering me a bit, but don't get me wrong, i think this is a good song!!! phoebe bridgers - georgia beautiful state, beautiful sender, pretty song! Tom Vercetti Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake: Kinda mid/doesn't stand out much to me. Avril Lavigne - Hot: Catchy tune. A new find that I like. Prince - I Would Die 4 U: An icon ofc. Good song from a legendary album. FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart: I dig the 2nd half of this song a lot more than the 1st but overall it's engaging. TWICE - Breakthrough: It's okayish. Some parts are fine. Rosalia - Bagdad: Besides the Cry Me A River sample, I'm unable to get attached to this one. Kylie Minogue - Chocolate: Love the hip-hop influenced beat and the chill vibes of this.
Navyofbadgals Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 POOR FAKE - one of the most iconic VL entries ever I'm afraid, @Touch Itsnapped many seasons back. Nice to see it back now, it's still as good as day 1. Smooth, campy, entertaining, beautiful, it's so good HOT - oh this was THE MOMENT back in the day Secretly one of my favorite Avril songs. It's just a good bit of fun, very nice! I WOULD DIE 4 U - sending Prince when the biggest prince fan on the panel aka clue isn't judging anymore.. risky yeah. This was entertaining and interesting throughout but I don't really.. love it. It's decent but it feels like it drags on after a while. MIRRORED HEART - need her to release the dua collab already cmon now... tanking her for it I fear this is absolutely stunning, as is every single song on this album. It would be the prettiest album of all time if Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood was never released but it was so x BREAKTHROUGH - ehh it has some nice parts but this chorus falls pretty flat imo. For a song that was already not super interesting.. that doesn't bode really well for you.. sorree! BAGDAD - the moki pandering.. far too much. He won here because this is easily one of the best songs of the late 10s along with pretty much every El Mal Querer track. The usage of the sample in here is SO good. She was a genius for this yeah.. CHOCOLATE - very cool and unique. The production on this has so many great elements here and there whilst still feeling all so subtle. So good!! Staryu Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake - This is very nice and smooth, I love the violins Avril Lavigne - Hot - 2000s Avril is so nostalgic for me, This is a fun, serotonin provider from the pop rock queen Prince - I Would Die 4 U - My 2nd favorite Prince song, has very interesting production for an 80s song, I love it FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart - Very lovely, pretty vocals, I'm not familiar with this song but I liked it TWICE - Breakthrough - A fun bop, I'm not familiar with this either but I enjoyed it the chorus is catchy Rosalia - Bagdad - The sample is interesting, the song kinda didn't go anywhere for me, she sounds nice tho x Kylie Minogue - Chocolate - This is a Kylie song I've barely listened to, I've never loved her like hushed vocals or w/e is going on with them, the production is great though, very smooth and chill Nick Bridgers - Georgia - Winner
mokitsu Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Spoiler Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake: This is a good entry for when there are like 458 banned artists and you can't think of anyone else. It's cute, but it stops there. Avril Lavigne - Hot: I remember when my girlfriend in 7th grade would sing this to me. Kinda cringe sticky memories associated with this and honestly it's not one of her best singles. The chorus is great but everything else is kinda just there for me. Prince - I Would Die 4 U: Much better than the other song of his that was sent earlier the season. Very electrifying, he keeps it at a 10 the whole time. Just very fun and soulful. FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart: Very beautiful and heartbreaking. I think this is the most raw song on the album and the one that tugs at my heartstrings the most - she sounds absolutely defeated here and I love how the production compliments the mood changes and knows when to stop and when to go harder. TWICE - Breakthrough: It's a fun synthy bop but like...obviously a Japanese release in the sense that it's quite reductive and fails to reach the heights that we're used from them/falls flat. Not the worst but nowhere near the best. Rosalia - Bagdad: Obviously a genius song. I wanted this to be sent but didn't expect it to. Love how mellow this is, how she combines classical biblical imagery such as the metaphoric descent of the protagonist into Hell - accompanied by visuals of her crying and clapping endlessly like she's praying only to be rescued by an angel - with modern gritty nightlife (her sitting outside a strip club with people looking and not caring). I just really dig the story she tells here and how the religious themes are conveyed in sound, with a choir singing alongside her and generally very HOLY melodies. Not to mention the double entendre in the title! Extraordinary song from an immaculate album. Kylie Minogue - Chocolate: How I wish the rest of the album sounded. Very trippy and sensual. Kylie's higher register shines and stuns her, with her sounding like a sex kitten. A knockout. Phoebe Bridgers - Georgia: I love her but I always hated this song Spoiler @Touch It @Kavish @Alena @Noah @Tom Vercetti @ughgabriel @Element @Psycho

thecptz Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake ooh not gonna lie when i listen to kelsey lu (not often), i need to be in the mood to like properly enjoy it because sometimes when its not right, its not right i think this is a cute listen.. i don't hate it and i think it's interesting enough!! but we'll see how it'll do compared to others Avril Lavigne - Hot omg help i was np-ing it in the server at the beginning of september because it hit me so hard that time you make me so hot... anyways, i LOVE this song!! its a fun bop and its always so fun and gives me the nostalgia vibe every time listening to it, AMAZING! Prince - I Would Die 4 U this really is another cute listen!! its not much going on but everything in the song makes sense! so yea i have to say that i enjoyed it quite a lot and rlly loved the vibe in the song FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart oh god best song from magdalene and i said what i said!!! this is so heartbreaking and so emotional. literally everything in this album is so good but this song, mirrored heart? when i told yall i cried, i CRIED!!! its just sooooooooo good... urgh what an amazing pick TWICE - Breakthrough oooh super cute song from twice!! i don't think i've heard this before but its very cute and yea it did its job and thats about it Rosalia - Bagdad i think the more you listen to it, the more you like it tbh cause thats exactly what happened with me! i didnt like it at the start but as the song went on, its such a cool and mellow song and i think this is another great pick for this round.. wow! Kylie Minogue - Chocolate i think its too long and a bit boring for me yea it has some great parts but most of all, it sounds the same throughout and i cant really get into it Nick Bridgers - Georgia urgh a great and amazing song i'm glad u managed to send in something that is actually better than some of the top 7 very true and very beautiful. Kavish Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 ⸸ Kavish ⛧ Kritiques ⸸ ~ Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake Gorgeous instrumentation, especially the shift at 1:44, and her stretched-out vocal delivery reflects the song's theme of longing for something. The spoken part during the bridge highlights how poetic the lyrics are and elevates the song even more. Avril Lavigne – Hot "Hot" was a massive bop back then, but Avril suffers the same fate as Kesha. Some of her poppier songs sound abrasive now while her mellower or earlier rock tracks have stood the test of time. I will still rank this well due to nostalgia, but "Tomorrow" from 'Let Go' would have been an instant #1. :nickicry: Prince - I Would Die 4 U The production still sounds fresh despite being almost 40 years old. The chorus is catchy and the instrumental and ad-libs that he does during the rest of the song makes the track a symphonious experience. FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart The production is beautifully atmospheric and spacious, which is fitting considering that she is singing about her missing half. It paints a picture of lamenting in an empty room, and the heartbreak can be felt in her voice. Despite being minimal, it is effective and keeps me engaged all the way through. TWICE – Breakthrough The chorus is memorable, especially the "say, say don't give up" part, but the production throughout is not as polished as some of their bigger singles that I like, and therefore it comes across as a bit harsh-sounding. Rosalia – Bagdad The "Cry Me a River" interpolation is well done, and the background vocals at 1:20 are even reminiscent of the ones in Nicki Minaj's "Your Love". Overall, the obscure and dramatic tone creates a depressing environment that I find captivating. Kylie Minogue - Chocolate The chill mood and her breezy vocals are relaxing and summery, but the ambiance remains constant for the whole 5 minutes. It felt like a long buildup without any switch or release at the end. I would appreciate this at any given time, but it lacks some oomph compared to the other songs. ~
smholiv Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake cool, kind of has a dramatic, almost fantastical vibe. It’s a bit on the longer side for me, I feel like I get the idea but then there’s still over a minute left. I love the strings, and will check out the rest of this album. Avril Lavigne - Hot It’s one of the best songs ever. The chorus is incredible, pop rock at its finest~ Prince - I Would Die 4 U Excellent choice from an excellent album, probably one of my faves FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart Not this round snapping. This is a lovely, demure yet cinematic moment. It’s not a fave of mine but it’s so gorgeous that it’ll do very well for me. TWICE - Breakthrough Great bop but one of the strange cases where I like the verses/other parts more than the chorus. Rosalia - Bagdad Lots of interesting elements to this that I love. There’s almost a haunting feeling here Kylie Minogue - Chocolate I like the chilled vibe and find it works super well with her sugary vocal. It’s sort of atmospheric which I like but it doesn’t hit as hard as other songs sent this round. Phoebe Bridgers - Georgia Not the kind of song you’d send for a game but I’m glad you did I find it so beautiful and emotive. I might give this a little boost yup @Psycho @ughgabriel @Touch It @Alena @Element @Kavish @Noah @Tom Vercetti
Noah Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Kelsey Lu - Poor Fake - this was v nice Avril Lavigne - Hot - very of its time but a bop nonetheless Prince - I Would Die 4 U - really liked this FKA Twigs - Mirrored Heart - gorgeous song TWICE - Breakthrough - huge bop Rosalia - Bagdad - there are certain aspects that I like Kylie Minogue - Chocolate - actually liked this a lot more than I thought I would Nick Bridgers - Georgia - talented brilliant incredible etc
