Lucky#17 Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Spoiler Janelle Monáe — Make Me Feel Always loved this lots. Beyoncé — Formation Feels strange listening to the song alone since I’d gotten used to listening to it with a visual. Still, it’s a great song. Tegan and Sara — Boyfriend I enjoyed this! Wish the chorus punched a bit more / had some more of a lingering vocal effect. It’s gonna be a tight round so this may end up by the bottom of my rankings although I liked it. Beyoncé — XO There’s something so warm & fulfilling about this one. It’s always had that “magic effect” on me, especially when listening to it in the nighttime. Robyn — Dancing On My Own Classic, still sounds great. Janet Jackson — No Sleeep Everything about this just feels… right. I really do need to investigate Janet’s music more. Lana Del Rey — Venice Bitch Quite a significant moment in her discography / artistry. I have no clue how I’ll rank this, but I get the thinking behind the pick. Solange — Don’t Touch My Hair Thought of sending “Cranes in the Sky” for a second since both that & this were such a moment. I do prefer “Cranes” & uptempos in general, so what I wrote for “Boyfriend” applies here too. Blood Orange — Best to You It’s such a shame this round is probably the strongest yet. I liked this, but not as much as the previous entries. Robyn — Honey Tried sending this. One of my favorite songs of all-time. Lana Del Rey — The greatest Probably won’t rank this as high as others (“**** it I love you” is more for me), but no where at the bottom. Angel Olsen — Lark OH I wasn’t expecting the changes in the song to be so massive. Some portions I liked (outro especially), but as a whole it’s off-putting. Janelle Monáe — Tightrope The verses in particular have always had that “thing” for me. Great pick. Lana Del Rey — Video Games You really hit the bullseye with this one. Another one of my all-time favorites. Kelela — Frontline Absolutely. Drake — Passionfruit The production’s nice, but I’m not attracted to much else. It’s relaxed, but feels a bit long.

touya kinomoto Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Janelle Monáe - Make Me Feel • There were reports of small tremors near Prince's grave at the time of release of this song. It was eventually revealed that it was just Prince shaking in his grave knowing Janelle had the nerve to release a song as great as this. Beyoncé - Formation • This is a cultural moment. I love the message of empowerment this song conveys. However, I will be honest and say that I never liked this song as much as I want to. I find the repetitive parts kinda annoying. Still not a bad song, far from it actually. It's just that I don't care about it that much. Tegan and Sara - Boyfriend • C'mon throwback! It's been a hot minute since I last heard this song. It's in no way a bad song but in a round that is so stacked, it gets overshadowed. It's a cute song but cute next to gorgeous... gorgeous is gonna devour cute. Beyoncé - XO • Speaking of gorgeous... let me get more controversial and say that for me, ST >>>> Lemonade. And for this round, this is the better Beyoncé song for me. It's a lovely love song and probably in my top 5 of Queen B songs. Her cold-ridden vocals adds to the appeal of this song. Ugh, great entry. Robyn - Dancing On My Own • Now, now... it's 2021 and we are still pretending this song is bad/overrated af? It's a great song that's why the acclaim is endless. I was not really planning on ranking this number one but it looks like heathens are gonna try it. Ugh, I still can't believe Robyn had the nerve to release the best song of 2010s in its first year. Janet Jackson - No Sleeep • Miss Jackson, 'cause I'm nasty. To be honest I am surprised to see her here. Didn't knew her recent works were that acclaimed. Anyhow, this song has the classic stylistics of a Janet Jackson. I just find the hook kinda ineffective but overall, still a cute song. Lana Del Rey - Venice Bitch • NFR is one of my fave albums of 2019 but this is one of my least favorites in the album. The first 3 minutes is ethereal. It should have ended there. I'm okay with long songs as long as every second is not wasted (see Runaway by Kanye West which I sent two seasons ago). But this song, it's not just worth it to listen to the last 6 minutes tbh. Solange - Don’t Touch My Hair • I know the younger Knowles sister is an acclaimed artist but I didn't know that she is a Pitchfork darling. Anyhow, Cranes in the Sky outsold. Still a good song tho. Blood Orange - Best to You • This is some cute af electronic music. I like that it is not basic like the usual EDM radio fodder. The production is interesting and the vocals is not irritating like the usual EDM radio fodder. Good choice. Robyn - Honey • Now this is how you make a sex song without really getting vulgar. Plus the production has this late 2010 polish to it. It may not be my fave song from the album - Never Again is still that bitch and should have been a BNT - but at least you selected the better song from this album (Missing U is just okay). Lana Del Rey - The Greatest • The best Lana del Rey song in this round I fear. Her lyricism shines in this song and the production is just so damn good. Dare I say Lana did a good job aptly titling this song. The greatest indeed. Angel Olsen - Lark • Ma'am, the title track was available for this round and you sent... this? This is not a bad song but All Mirrors is just simply better. Janelle Monae - Tightrope • Two Janelle songs in one round huh? I like MMF a bit better but this is still a great song. The Archandroid deserved more success because it has gems like this. The funky production is so lit. Lana Del Rey - Video Games • BTD Lana is still her second best. Her vocal delivery has improved and the production here is still so good. Kelela - Frontline • As I have said previously, I only stan LMK because it's her only song that I know. With that being said, I'm interested by this song. It's no LMK but it's a great song too. Her vocals is my absolute favorite but the production also slaps. Drake - Passionfruit • I'm actually a sucker for Drake singing so this gets additional points for me. However, compared to the rest of the songs this round, it just doesn't stand out that much. I agree with the others that Nice For What would've been a better choice. Overall, this is a strong round so whoever gets eliminated shouldn't be ashamed.
miguel Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 miguel's critiques Make Me Feel - absolutely!! was introduced to this by the game section and it has to be one of my favorites by Janelle. such a fun vibe all throughout. Formation - the song on it's own is good, but everything that came with it elevated it soooo much. the visuals and choreography, wheeeew! Boyfriend - i don't really see the appeal of this song on any aspect tbh. i dislike the vocals, and the production does nothing for me. XO - probably one of my fav Bey singles. it has such a fun, feel-good vibe to it. Dancing On My Own - Calum's version >>>>>. The production of this is so dated and grating to listen to, and overpowers the vocals in every way. No Sleep - her whispering gets a bit annoying at times, but I really enjoyed when she finally came through with actual singing vocals. Overall I really liked the feel/vibe of the song. Venice Bitch - i really, really love this..... up until it starts being annoying with the alien noises at the 5 minute mark. Don’t Touch My Hair - will probably end up towards the middle, middle/low part of my ranking. I like it, but not that much. Best to You - based on other critiques i thought i was gonna enjoy this much more than i actually did. It's not bad at all but I wouldn't come back to it either. Honey - better than DOMO, worse than the rest of the songs here. Robyn just isn't what y'all gays make her out to be. The Greatest - this is absolutely the best Lana song here, and probably one of my personal favorites from her. Everything about this is outstanding. Lark - i actually quite enjoy this, not my #1 or anything, but the girls are doing a bit too much on it. I really like how it gets progressively more chaotic fff. Tightrope - i like Make Me Feel a bit more, but this is still a hugeeeeeee bopppp :riri: it's true it's true Video Games - eh, i have no attachment to this. I like NFR Lana much more than I do her earlier stuff. Frontline - this is such a hugeeee vibe, i really like it it. i was very close to sending it too, but decided it was too long for the GP hihi. Passionfruit - I like this, it's a nice song to vibe to, but i wish it hit a bit harder. I still use though and will probably end in the middle-tier of my rankings. ❤
thecptz Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 a great round, thank you! Spoiler Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel so true! this is such a bop and it brings me back to the better time that was in 2018 i love make me feel sooooo much like it makes me wanna dance every time i hear it and its a classic already so amazing job! Beyonce - Formation whew when this was released, it was such a cultural reset like everyone was shook. literally. it still goes hard af now and still sounds so fresh, what a queen! Tegan and Sara - Boyfriend aw i miss them this has a cute throwback sound that is kinda okay i guess? like its a nice and cute song but this round is soo packed so yea, very there for me compared to others so that also made it kinda forgettable tbh Beyonce - XO WOW literally just WOW xo has become my favorite beyonce song of all time tbh i just love the way that it can make me feel.. i can't even describe it but i feel so emotional listening to this wow like.. you did that Robyn - Dancing On My Own pls literally a classic (then boyfriend) then another classic this relatable song! its so true and hits right through to my heart! it may not as good as others giggles but it has that lasting impact! Janet Jackson - No Sleep ooh i havent heard this before i actually enjoyed it a bit like its a chill, sexy bop i can get behind feels like it might fall short compared to other classics but i still liked it Lana Del Rey - Venice Bitch oh god i've never been a fan of long songs like over 6 minutes or something so when i heard she's releasing an almost 10 min song i was like well ahem giggles BUT then i heard this song, its literally so amazing like she took me to an amazing experience in this 9.37mins so freaking amazing sending an almost 10 mins song is a risk for sure but this song is worth it Solange - Don’t Touch My Hair so ahem i never rlly gotten into this song.. i was hoping for another ding! moment like cranes did with me last season it was close to happen but then it fell a bit short for me :/ sorry Blood Orange - Best to You oh pls this is better than i expected it to be! although i feel like its, again, a bit flat compared to others but its still an enjoyable track and the bridge really makes the song better imo Robyn - Honey so true. i think i sent this in the food round in a season that bagels hosted really like it and i prefer it to dancing on my own. the production, the lyrics, very much that! Lana Del Rey - The Greatest literally the greatest this is why NFR! is such an amazing album all 3 lana submissions are amazing but this is just chefs kiss well i should've said more but like i love this song so there yes one more extra line so true bestie Angel Olsen - Lark i feel like i love the song more and more as the song goes by.. like it has so many layers that you just need to sit and just take it in slowly so yea, i'm very impressed by it and this prob gets a high ranking from me <3 Janelle Monae - Tightrope this is soooo fun if this had been sent in another round that is not a round this strong, it would've gotten a high rank from me cause like even though its fun, i think its lacking in some parts but still fun Lana Del Rey - Video Games urgh the string is soooo beautiful i think this is one of the first songs that i've heard from lana and it still impresses me now.. the way i'm gonna rank all lana songs very high this round. and do i care? no i love it x Kelela - Frontline wow i havent listened to this for so long i forgot how good it is the chorus is literally sooooooo amazing and catchy and i love the production in this song as well. yup! Drake - Passionfruit overall, i think it is a cute bop but its also very middle of the road for me so maybe its not bad? but in the round with full of bangers, Spoiler @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @Noah @Lucky#17 @Tom Vercetti @Jay-Zicario @Psycho @Not Like The Movies @touya kinomoto @ughgabriel @Mr. Duff @Rotunda @Staryu
touya kinomoto Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 I can take your criticisms for DOMO being overrated but to say the abomination that is the cover is better is just preposterous.
Overprotected Posted January 28, 2021 Author Posted January 28, 2021 Spoiler Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel - Is it the best song on Dirty Computer? No it is not. But I was actually surprised with how well this has aged, I overplayed it so much when it came out but I still liked it quite a lot! Beyonce - Formation - It’s a bop yeah but this one has aged a bit, it didn’t go off as hard as I remember Tegan and Sara - Boyfriend - Meh it’s just a very generic synthpop song that’s nicely produced but it really doesn’t stand out at all Beyonce - XO - Never cared a lot for this tbh. Like it’s cute and it sounds euphoric, anthemic idk but I just don’t feel it Robyn - Dancing On My Own - I always found the instrumental pretty jarring and also she has one of those cutesy girlie voices that make me wanna kms Janet Jackson - No Sleep - Queen of insomnia made some points with this chill and relaxing bop Lana Del Rey - Venice Bitch - Wow the first 3 minutes of this are really stunning, I almost got emotional listening to it but yeah this does not justify the other 5 mins of artsy/experimental instrumental Solange - Don’t Touch My Hair - This is boring sorry, there’s some interesting elements here and there but yeah it didn’t click Blood Orange - Best to You - This is alright I guess... Robyn - Honey - Way better than domo Lana Del Rey - The Greatest - This is on another level :winniepoor: Angel Olsen - Lark - Not the 1-2 punch of the best songs of 2019 :winniepoor: Janelle Monae - Tightrope - Funky bop, one of the best albums of all time :itstrue: Lana Del Rey - Video Games - This is boring wow the glow up with NFR! Kelela - Frontline - Massive bop whew Drake - Passionfruit - I like the instrumental Spoiler @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @Noah @Lucky#17 @Tom Vercetti @Jay-Zicario @Psycho @Not Like The Movies @touya kinomoto @ughgabriel @Mr. Duff @Rotunda @Staryu
Noah Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel - have never been super into this but it’s a cute song (also shea won as5 to this so i have to stan) Beyonce - Formation - a classic Tegan and Sara - Boyfriend - a cute song but idk if it really compares to the rest here Beyonce - XO - i’ve always really liked this. v underrated Robyn - Dancing On My Own - cute but kinda played out amongst the gheys Janet Jackson - No Sleep - i’m sure auburn loves it! Lana Del Rey - Venice Bitch - talented brilliant incredible etc Solange - Don’t Touch My Hair - oh yes i’ve always loved this Blood Orange - Best to You - really like this. my favorite song by them Robyn - Honey - a cute song but idk if it really compares to the rest here [2] Lana Del Rey - The Greatest - talented brilliant incredible etc [2] Angel Olsen - Lark - it’s nice Janelle Monae - Tightrope - not super into this one Lana Del Rey - Video Games - talented brilliant incredible etc [3] Kelela - Frontline - i like it Drake - Passionfruit - one of my favorites from him
mokitsu Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Make Me Feel - This album is AWFUL but this is like the only song I enjoy. It's pretty cute, but generic and a tired Prince cosplay. Formation - My all time most played song. From my favorite album ever! Everything about this is iconic. Boyfriend - Never cared for their lesbo synthpop shtick. XO - A classic feel good track from Bey. This chorus has a really nostalgic and romantic feel to it that I love. It's euphoric but understated at the same time? So good. Dancing on my Own - Birthed a LOT of these new girls. A great classic, although not one of my favorites in this round. No Sleeep - It's a Janet song. You know what to expect... yeah it's good, but I'm not sure what takes this to the next level. Venice Bitch - Have to be in a really drunk and self hating mood for this. And I'm not. Don't Touch My Hair - Don't care for her output after "True". Best to You - Blood Orange needs to stick to producing for the alt pop girls because his solo work is dull and repetitive as hell. Honey - Something shifted when she dropped this. Still one of my favorite 2018 songs. Sensual as ****. The greatest - Much better and instant than Venice, but I feel like all the impact that this album had on me was left in 2019. Lark - One of the most hauntingly beautiful, epic and devastating tracks I've ever heard. Angel put her heart and soul into this project, and every fiber of it has so much emotion that it's hard not to be touched by it. Tightrope - Corny and annoying as ****. Video Games - I think I'm really over her. This lullaby music is awful Frontline - My favorite album of 2017. I was confused when this got BNT but it really has so much impact and emotion in it. A bad bitch anthem. "I'll tell you what, there's no luck, it's all me".... WHEW Passionfruit - You know I felt like hating this but I really can't. Timeless song. ?
