miguel Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 miguel's critiques Yellow Flicker Beat - huuuuuugee bop. Peach - yup yup yup. the chorus is IT Black Magic - bop but y'all need to know your audience by now. i wish you... an ounce of luck. Rose Colored Boy - v cute. shivering gold - boppp :riri: Blue Lights - in loooove with this, everything comes together very well here Champagne Kisses - this is better than everything else i've heard from her. the production chorus is great. White Flag - it's a very pretty song through and through, will probably end up in the lower half of my rank because of how strong the round is tho. coffee - YUP, Miguel amazing, talented, out of this world, never been done before, etc. Red Flavor - this is a case of worst for last i guess. loud and annoying production, sounds like a kidz bop. amazing, amazing round overall. literally classic after classic. probably my favorite so far. ❤
mokitsu Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Spoiler Yellow flicker beat - this aged tragically and was never that good to begin with. it falls really flat and the chorus is awkward for me? she did the whole pop thing much better in melodrama and the kanye remix of this is much better Peach - very cute. love the bridge and the instrumental part Black magic - WHEWWWWWWWWW a classic. I love it!!!!!!!! Rose colored boy - An instant fave in this album. shivering gold - i love it when i listen to the album front to back, but it's very much something that only works in context for me. listening to this in a playlist, it's quite weak imo. Blue lights - One of my favorite debut singles ever. I remember listening to this when she had nothing else out and being absolutely floored. the trip hop production and the lyrics are just chilling Champagne kisses - very boring White flag - ........................... coffee - his peak, but weak with all these songs Red flavor - We have our winner Spoiler @miguel / @MusicLoverDude @Alena / @Not Like The Movies @Fruity/ @Mr. Duff @Tom Vercetti / @Psycho @Jay-Zicario / @luckystrike @Touch It / @bestfiction @Rence / @Future Lover @ughgabriel / @Lucky#17 @Anthem / @touya kinomoto @Noah / @Sanguine Great choices ladies and gents
Auburn Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Spoiler Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat never been a big fan of this sorry Broods - Peach this is quite good I like it Little Mix - Black Magic this is cuter than I was expecting, but I’m still upset you wasted “black” on this song Paramore - Rose Colored Boy this is a bop, it’s always stood out on the album Tove Lo - shivering gold it’s very good, not one of my faves from this album but still solid Jorja Smith - Blue Lights the artistry… *chef’s kiss* Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses this is so beautiful, one of the best songs from that album for me Dido - White Flag Found my #1, a classic! Miguel - coffee yes yes yes Red Velvet - Red Flavor yeah, not a fan of this Spoiler @miguel / @MusicLoverDude @Alena / @Not Like The Movies @Fruity/ @Mr. Duff @Tom Vercetti / @Psycho @Jay-Zicario / @luckystrike @Touch It / @bestfiction @Rence / @Future Lover @ughgabriel / @Lucky#17 @Anthem / @touya kinomoto @Noah / @Sanguine
Psycho Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat: It's the classic Broods - Peach: The chorus is pretty good but I don't care for the verses. Her voice is annoying in that falsetto tone Little Mix - Black Magic: Yup their best song Paramore - Rose Colored Boy: Cute bop Tove Lo - shivering gold: The production >>> a bop Jorja Smith - Blue Lights: Meh. Her indie avocado'd voice is annoying to me. Kelela's Blue Light >> Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses: Lovely Dido - White Flag: Cute Miguel - coffee: Decent, like all his songs sent in these games Red Velvet - Red Flavor: Winner
Overprotected Posted January 17, 2021 Author Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat - It’s cute, it has nice production but I don’t know, I don’t find it very memorable, it’s lacking something that would make me want to listen to it again sorry Broods - Peach - Whew this is pretty good. The chorus is very anthemic and it actually sounds like a Lorde song but one better than the one sent this round :lilbit: Little Mix - Black Magic - Very fun cutesy bop, maybe if they made more music like this :lilbit: Paramore - Rose Colored Boy - Mega CLASSIC yup! Instant mood lifter :lilbit: Tove Lo - shivering gold - It’s good, might need to grow on me though Jorja Smith - Blue Lights - This is good, I like chill songs like this that still have a distinct melody and it’s also a nice change of pace from all the previous bops Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses - This is very forgettable, I kinda hear sumn but it’s just not hitting for me Dido - White Flag - I don’t think I’ve ever heard this before and I’m surprised it’s supposed to be a classic, it’s just alright… Miguel - coffee - Not my favorite song nor album by him but it’s still decent I guess Red Velvet - Red Flavor - a very cute bop to close the round with Spoiler @miguel / @MusicLoverDude @Alena / @Not Like The Movies @Fruity/ @Mr. Duff @Tom Vercetti / @Psycho @Jay-Zicario / @luckystrike @Touch It / @bestfiction @Rence / @Future Lover @ughgabriel / @Lucky#17 @Anthem / @touya kinomoto @Noah / @Sanguine
Sanguine Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat: Was obsessed in 2014. Not anymore but yeah Broods - Peach: They fell off so hard after Conscious this song is okay though Little Mix - Black Magic: Strong chorus (though it doesn't do as much for me anymore), okay verses Paramore - Rose-Colored Boy: BIG bop. Love it Tove Lo - shivering gold: Bop, not one of her best just because BL is so consistent (aside from HUGD, her best) Jorja Smith - Blue Lights: This is cute but I'm not in love with it Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses: Her BEST song from her only good album Dido - White Flag: Miguel - coffee: I like it enough Red Velvet - Red Flavor: A BANGER from my fave mini
Navyofbadgals Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat - Def not one of Lorde's best, but I for one still kinda like it It's maybe not strong for a lorde song, but it's still much better than the average song Broods - Peach - the chorus is IT, very catchy, I kinda dislike the rest of the song so I'm conflicted on this Not a total disaster I guess Little Mix - Black Magic - sigh, I guess I could expect this one but it's such a poor choice I wanna say it sounds like a disney channel song, but disney channel songs are much, much better than this It's so childish and very generic. It makes it even worse that there are so many great songs with black in the title, so to have it wasted on a mediocre generic pop song is a disappointment I guess at least the others aren't hating on this so I guess you can ignore this rant but this in reality is a big no-no x Paramore - Rose Colored Boy - Yeah I don't care that much anymore for this album, but this and Hard Times are still nicely crafted pop songs with some nice throwback elements here and there. Good choice Tove Lo - shivering gold - not my favorite from blue lips but this is still GOOD yup, the way Tove makes the best electropop sex songs no it's true it's true Jorja Smith - Blue Lights - this absolute SERVE her best song, by far. Her bananies avocadies vocals here aren't too bad, the instrumental is perfect and the lyrics are strong as well. Such a great song Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses - well.. this is awkward because I don't like it. It already was a bit of a stretch for this round (it's accepted and I won't tank it more for being more of a stretch so dw about that but..) this better be a great pop song if you go out of your way to pick a song that isn't directly on theme. And it just.. is boring? It's not nearly as polished as any of the tracks from her recent album, but even then other tracks of hers are so much more polished. This just isn't it sorry Dido - White Flag - the panning for this classic when it's probably the first song you should think about with this round It's a great song, I really don't care about any other dido song, but this is GOOD Miguel - coffee - god this album is HOT and so is this song, great pick Red Velvet - Red Flavor - well this for me is in the same lane as Black Magic, as both are kinda turrible songs with a childish vibe to it. This one at least tries to be interesting so it's already better than BM so not too bad of a round overall, some duds but pretty consistent last round was better tho x Spoiler @miguel / @MusicLoverDude @Alena / @Not Like The Movies @Fruity/ @Mr. Duff @Tom Vercetti / @Psycho @Jay-Zicario / @luckystrike @Touch It / @bestfiction @Rence / @Future Lover @ughgabriel / @Lucky#17 @Anthem / @touya kinomoto @Noah / @Sanguine
Mr. Duff Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Strong songs this round! Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat forgot about this but whew, great song Broods - Peach it’s nice, the chorus is annoying a bit Little Mix - Black Magic cute but it’s so annoying Paramore - Rose Colored Boy love me some Paramore, good choice Tove Lo - shivering gold first time I heard of this, and it’s really good, she sounds a bit like Ellie here Jorja Smith - Blue Lights pretty good Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses really dig this one, love her voice Dido - White Flag classic yup, love it Miguel - coffee another classic yup, love it Red Velvet - Red Flavor umm, it’s a no
Anthem Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - "Yellow Flicker Beat" This is still my favourite Lorde song! ...well maybe tied with Liability. Anyway, this song has a lot of intensity to it, painting a story with really bold strokes. I especially enjoy the transition of the quivering first verse smashing into a powerful chorus. The writing is fantastic as well, "they use to shout my name now they whisper it" - masterful. Taylor was probably so mad she didn't think of that line. Anyway, yeah. Sad to see some others here have grown tired of the song. Broods - "Peach" I wasn't feeling this much up until the second verse, and then things started to get a little more exciting. The piano bridge leading looping back around into a chanting chorus was fun. This was a cute blend of indie and synth, which I think is going to make for a good bridge between YFB and the upcoming Little Mix song, lol. But yeah, this was a feel-good song! I'd definitely listen to it again. Little Mix - "Black Magic" Ugh, I loveeee this song so much. Like with many of LM's singles, it's shameless bubblegum pop taken to the max - and it's SO much fun to dance to. This song was an instant hit for me when it debuted, but their performance of it at the BRITs has cemented it as a pop classic. Just listening to this song gave me a ton of energy! Paramore - "Rose-Colored Boy" Yay, I love "After Laughter" and this track is an album highlight for me. I really like the vibes this song gives off - even though the lyrics are so face-the-reality, the colorful production balances it in such a cute way. That was the best part of this album for me, and I think this particular song encompasses the concept really well. You say, "We gotta look on the bright side" I say, "Well maybe if you wanna go blind" Tove Lo - "shivering gold" I expected to dislike this because it's Tove Lo, but this is actually really good. Very sharp production, and I love the sexual ownership in both the lyrics & delivery. Tove Lo can do sultry so well sometimes, and this is a good example of one of them. Yup, it's a bop. Lemme add it to my library. Jorja Smith - "Blue Lights" There's some good storytelling here, and I like the message. Very introspective. There are some levels to Jorja's delivery, and it helps with bringing the song into some different directions. I really like that the base of the production is very like, relaxing RPG BGM and then as it moves forward new elements are introduced that make things a little more chaotic. Lots to be admired here. Very well made song. Jessie Ware - "Champagne Kisses" This song felt like it ended before it even really took off? I like the melody though, and it has some good atmosphere to it. I'm not really a fan of choruses that just repeat the same two words though, it feels very Katy Perry when she's trying to pad an album. What disappoints me is that when the chorus first hits, it feels like it's actually a pre-chorus that's about to elevate into something greater, but.. it's not. Dido - "White Flag" Would I be attacked for saying that Sabrina Carpenter's "White Flag" is better? I would hope not, since it's true. Does that mean this song is bad, though? No. But it is quite boring. I like the somber atmosphere, but it oddly feels like it goes on for a bit too long and begins to lose me with how just how drab it is. Mood killer, I'm afraid. Miguel - "coffee" Ahh, I use to be obsessed with this song! I haven't heard it in so long. Thank you for reminding me of this steamy masterpiece. Miguel's delivery here is honestly enough to make you melt; you just want him to be whispering all this in your ear. This song is exactly how Zayn imagines himself when he's recording in the studio, lol. The production is also nice and very complementary. Red Velvet - "Red Flavor" That random electronic voice after the chorus sounds like will.i.am mumbling in Kesha's "Crazy Kids" lmao. I really wish that wasn't there. But other than that, this is such a cute & fun song. Feels like the final scene in an animated family film where all the characters are dancing together before the credits.
luckystrike Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Yellow Flicker Beat: whewwwww this hits, amazing song Peach: yassssss I love this song, very fun cute lil moment Black Magic: this is SOOOOOO aged and bad Rose-Colored Boy: YASSSSSSSSSSSS a severe slay shivering gold: whewwwwwww it’s the classic Blue Lights: this is quite boring, I’ll pass Champagne Kisses: very lovely song White Flag: it’s a good song but I fear it won’t be high on my ranking due to the smashes before this Coffee: cute that’s it Red Flavor: cute bop, wishing you luck
smholiv Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat at first i was like "ugh another Lorde song", but honestly, it knocks. In all honestly I prefer stuff like this from her (or Pure Heroine) because there's cool stuff in the production to get into, along with her usual lyricism. I have fond memories of this soundtrack album, and this is definitely one of the highlights. Really fun song. Broods - Peach It's ALL in the chorus. The verses aren't quite as strong to me, but there's elements to this that are intriguing Little Mix - Black Magic Ehhh, I'm not so sure. Little Mix never work for me, they feel very much like an X Factor/talent show act. As talented as they are the songs just aren't interesting. I will say though that I've enjoyed this more than other singles of theirs. Paramore - Rose Colored Boy Really catchy and fun, I like this style of Paramore and I think this was a really great choice for VL Tove Lo - shivering gold Sort of awkward sounding? I'm not sure if that's just me but something in the production feels off. It's fine.. but I'm not a huge fan of Tove Lo and find it really hard to get into her stuff. Nothing really jumps out at me to keep me wanting to listen. Jorja Smith - Blue Lights It's nice. I liked it enough. Probably would be fine never hearing it again though - i'm a bit tired of these types of songs Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses Pretty, but not much else. Jessie has always been an artist that I've not gotten as much out of as other people. I think her voice is the key feature here and while I definitely enjoyed my listen, I probably wouldn't return to it again. Dido - White Flag Wish this was Clairo This is one of those HAC type songs you want to hate but realize is kind of great Miguel - coffee Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but sometimes miguel can be a bit on the corny side. This is maybe an example of it Overall its a good indication of what you'd want out of a Miguel song though - its a vibe the whole way through and the production is nice I'm not entirely convinced it held up, but its cool Red Velvet - Red Flavor Firstly i'm just really glad that you sent these legends . This is a really fun summery song, RV are fantastic and i'm just happy you sent an interesting but enjoyable song. Realistically this isn't in my top ten from them or anything, its a bit less unique and quirky compared to their other material, but ... its RV... so i love it :shy: Spoiler @miguel / @MusicLoverDude @Alena / @Not Like The Movies @Fruity/ @Mr. Duff @Tom Vercetti / @Psycho @Jay-Zicario / @luckystrike @Touch It / @bestfiction @Rence / @Future Lover @ughgabriel / @Lucky#17 @Anthem / @touya kinomoto @Noah / @Sanguine
clue Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Spoiler Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat It's actually cuter than I remember. Hasn't aged too badly. Still definitely not one of her best songs, though. Broods - Peach Cute lil euphoric bop. Very basique, though. Little Mix - Black Magic This has always been so annoying to me :coma:. That loud flat chorus, no ma'am. Paramore - Rose-Colored Boy This is so cringey, whew. They lost the plot after Paramore (2013) :zach:. The shouting in the post-chorus, girl no. Tove Lo - Shivering Gold Okay miss ting, this is cute. Jorja Smith - Blue Lights Generic and boring, sorry. Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses Cutesy. WYP certainly was a culture reset for her, though. Dido - White Flag Gorgeous classic. That melancholic chorus is incredible. Stream Mommy (2014). Miguel - Coffee Sexy classique. Red Velvet - Red Flavor This is so shouty and annoying, no thanks. bestfiction Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat: It's fine. Not the best Lorde song ofc but not as bad as the previous song that was sent here Broods - Peach: a cute lil bop, serving Magdalena Bay to me a bit. Not in a bad way though Little Mix - Black Magic: expected something terrible but this is actually isn't half bad Paramore - Rose Colored Boy: a classic, After Laughter is their only album that I use and this is the highlight from it Tove Lo - shivering gold: solid but I don't care about it that much... Pitch Black > Jorja Smith - Blue Lights: I feel that her voice is just too strong, too present for this chill instrumental, the voice overpowers it. The outro also felt a bit amateur to me :/ Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses: I have no interest in her pre-WYP music. This is decent though. Dido - White Flag: yeah, this screams HAC staple but it's still very good. Miguel - coffee: sexy and all, he's really a Games Section staple Red Velvet - Red Flavor: a quirky classic

Alena Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 hi ♥ Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat: that beginning was some disturbing mosquito noise ear rape realness. other than that it's pretty nice. Broods - Peach: cute. Little Mix - Black Magic: cute song but i've kinda overplayed it fff. Paramore - Rose Colored Boy: cute & fun yup. Tove Lo - shivering gold: definitely not her best song or even close to it but it's nice, her songs rarely dissapoint. Jorja Smith - Blue Lights: there's parts of it that i really like, and some that kinda drag on... overall it's cute. Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses: well this is definitely better than any of those dreadful songs from her new album i was forced to go through for a rate... BUT i still don't care for her or this. Dido - White Flag: such a great choice, maybe you snapped! so beautiful. Miguel - coffee: better than what i expected but i just find him overall boring. Red Velvet - Red Flavor: a super fun and cute bop! lovee.
touya kinomoto Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat • I'm such a massive Lorde stan but I never thought of sending this. Maybe because 1) it's kinda forgettable and 2) actually falls flat compared to most of her songs. Broods - Peach • I first listened to this song yesterday and I kinda like it. I agree with the most critiques that the verses are weak and there's also that autotune(?) in the prechorus that irritates me. But MA'AM, that chorus is EVERYTHING! Little Mix - Black Magic • I don't really like Little Mix in general but this song is a huge discography standout. It's fun and well-made and when that final chorus hits, it just hits you right. Paramore - Rose Colored Boy • I am mad at myself for forgetting about this absolute bop. Their best songs are still from their self-titled album from 2013 but this isn't far from those. The throwback elements are so fun but well-used. The chanting in the post-chorus is kinda unnecessary tho. Tove Lo - shivering gold • This is Tove's best album but I honestly don't care about this song. I feel like this is actually bottom half in the album. The verses are weak and the pre-chorus is weird and ugly. But like Peach above, the chorus is LIT! Jorja Smith - Blue Lights • So where is Blue (Da Ba Dee)? But srsly, some of you are nutting over this song? Please. You find White Flag boring but not this? It's so generic omg. Stop hating on older songs just because they are. P.S.: I'm doing my critiques just after I woke up but this song makes me wanna sleep again. Jessie Ware - Champagne Kisses • Mama, this stretch made me ask OP to accept Grimes' Flesh without Blood (Flesh is a color, Crayola had it once in its roster). But since this was accepted, I won't take points off for that. Now I see some of you favoring this over her most recent work. Let me just laugh. What's Your Pleasure? is her best work and this doesn't come close to the lows of that album. There is a song somewhere in here. Not saying that this a bad song but idk, the vocals here aren't it for me and the repetitive chorus is just lazy. Dido - White Flag • This absolute mother****ing classic! You can ask OP but I also sent him this the instant I saw white was still available. I know how this bunch hate HAC type of songs but not me. I started developing my music taste around the time this songs was released. During those years, radio was dominated by R&B, hip hop and pop rock. To find a AC gem like this during those times was such a palate cleanser. Miguel - coffee • This is a pretty song but we all know he can do better. Kaleidoscope Dream is still his best work but good job with this choice. Red Velvet - Red Flavor • The nerve to send a foreign-language song in a round where there are only few songs. But I get that where that nerve is coming from because this is such a BOP!
