Reverse Warholian Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) #10. 'All For Us', Labrinth feat. Zendaya If you're in the mood for an amazing EMMY winning bop, then look no further! Technically this song came out in mid-2019, but I re-stanned Euphoria during quarantine and consequently fell even more in love with the entrancing Labrinth-produced score which is so vital to the show that it feels like its own character at times. 'All For Us' is easily the cornerstone song on the soundtrack and feels like the show in musical form. It's just so well produced! L & Z's vocals, that CHOIR, those gritty chopped up synths, the lyrics There's a new production element to pick out and stan for on each listen! I like Labrinth quite a bit and think his music is criminally underrated in the US / North America. I'm really glad this song got some awards love and I hope him and Zendaya produce an even bigger smash for season two! Spoiler The corresponding clue: Edited December 28, 2020 by ReverseWarholian
Reverse Warholian Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 #9. 'Blinding Lights', The Weeknd This song had such an OMNIPRESENCE in 2020 (and not mainly airplay-fuelled like a certain '80s trend reviving artist), it really wouldn't feel right to snub it from the top 10! The production feels like a rejuvenated take on Aha's 'Take On Me' without sounding reductive or even worse nostalgic for the sake of being nostalgic which is probably my biggest gripe with older music trends being revived. It sounds so unequivocally ABEL and is a sonic progression of some of his previous hits 'In The Night', 'Secrets', and 'I Feel It Coming' that everything about it feels earned and organique and less like a costume he's trying on for a quick lil hit. Also, Anton Tammi's music video is one of the best in the last couple years. The way he matched the energy of the song with simple lighting effects and the cinematography overall is A1. I hope he gets booked to direct more mainstream artists' MVs after this. N E wayz, the Scammys truly LOST with this one and revealed how far removed from reality they are. I hope this NEVER leaves the Hot 100 as punishment Spoiler Corresponding clue: @Mark Rih

Reverse Warholian Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 #8. 'Ooh La La', Run The Jewels feat. Greg Nice & DJ Premier I saw all the critical acclaim their album received and decided to give it a listen and was immediately entranced by this old school '90s hip hop excellence! Am a sucker for DJ Premier (rise up, Back to Basics, rise!) and the 'DWYCK' sample is genius. Pretty sure no one here will care, but stream anyway! Spoiler Corresponding clue
Reverse Warholian Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 (edited) #7. 'Lost In Yesterday', Tame Impala The straights won again! Another great example of how Kevin Parker can seldom do no wrong and its parent album The Slow Rush is easily one of my favorites of 2020! 'Lost In Yesterday' ticks off all the boxes of what I'd want from a Tame Impala song: psychedelic disco-rock beat? Check. Introspective non-clichéd lyrics? Check. Hypnotizing airy Kevin Parker vocals? Check. Just 4 minutes of pure bliss. "Now even though that was a time I hated from day one/Eventually terrible memories turn into great ones" Spoiler Corresponding clue: Congrats to Miss @Insanity for guessing correctly!
