Remmy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Rare is cute but I don't love it enough to be pressed or anything You really did highlight some of the weakest tracks. Smile is very overhated! Oh Wonder & Ellie's albums are generally inoffensive. mama's boy really did suck, so boring. Kinda wish I never heard Sad Tonight so I didn't waste my time on How to Be Human. Still can't believe Leave It Beautiful was actually released and especially as a debut album. Strangers / Lovers... on a worst list... you've GOTTA be kidding me.
potent Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I only know and like Ellie's but I'll let it slide since she has better Kygo had something with Higher Love but I think it was just a one off, he should've stopped there He releases a cute song every once in a while but lately just sounds so... uninspired
DoctorIce Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 13 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: 8.) Katy Perry - Smile (Dance-Pop/Electropop) Look, I get that being gauche is Katy's "thing" but this is so... BLEH to listen to. Especially with Never Really Over still being a fantastic single. Daisies is probably her worst song ever, DEFINITELY her worst chorus. Please do not just scream DAISY at me and call it a song. It really doesn't get much better past that. Tucked is cute. That's about all I'll give you. Congrats on the kid. DISGUSTANG: Daisies, Not the End of the World, Champagne Problems 7.) HONNE - No Song Without You (Indie Pop/Pop Soul) It's really sad to see HONNE devolving so much that they've become a band attempting to be a HONNE cover band. Their last album was cute... you know, not as good as their first stuff, not THAT bad honestly. But WHEW the only takeaway track from here is the title track. I know this is a "mixtape" rather than an album, but still, why did they even bother? DISGUSTANG: La la la That's How It Goes, By My Side, Can't Bear to be Without You "Gauche" is a great word which I will now be stealing. Definitely agree with No Song Without Boredom. They haven't done much for me since the album with Coastal Love and the Kill J remix of FHKD.
Pink Matter Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Can't say I've listened to any of these (only listened to the Cudi song on Rare) soooooo glad I didn't miss out
ikiru Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 the Astrid S album wasn't THAT bad omg not you putting Amelia in the worst songs omg, it's a cute song
Kevin2803 Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 16 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: 9.) Ellie Goulding - Brightest Blue (Contemporary R&B/Pop) The funny thing with this album is that there are so many moments where Ellie thinks she's being this EPIC QUEEN with a BOMBASTIC CHORUS or something, but the music goes nowhere and the lyrics are dry. I generally have this criticism with most Ellie songs I dislike. When she goes into something a bit more simple it works (Love Me Like You Do) and when she goes into a bit more "creative" territory it works (My Blood, the Serpentwithfeet track from this album), but for the most part this album is just a bunch of nothing. DISGUSTANG: Bleach, Woman, Power 8.) Katy Perry - Smile (Dance-Pop/Electropop) Look, I get that being gauche is Katy's "thing" but this is so... DISGUSTANG: Daisies, Not the End of the World, Champagne Problems 3.) Astrid S - Leave It Beautiful (Electropop/Dance-Pop) Easily my least favorite female release of the year. I know people's lists have been placing her down as inoffensive background music or whatever, but I'm convinced you people (cleverly) didn't listen to the lyrics and that's why you think this is a decent album. Well LISTEN AGAIN. Actually, don't listen again, I don't wanna be the cause for you deciding to hate this album! It's not even fun-stupid lyrics. "I'm just a thing, ain't I?" Shut up. Her best song this year was that NOTD collaboration, but if you really want me to pick a top song from this it's the title track. I wouldn't mind playing that again. Everything else, NO. DISGUSTANG: Marilyn Monroe, It's OK If You Forget Me, If I Can't Have You 2.) Kygo - Golden Hour (EDM/Tropical House) How dare you. How DARE you steal the name of Kacey Musgraves's flawless 2018 love opus. You make me sick Kygo. I was actually one of the few #indieheaux who would throw you a bone for having some fun music (and one of my BFFs love Kygo; don't show him this). Instead, Kygo has decided to opt for the following two genres: nothing, and ****ING LOUD. You know your music-making abilities have plummeted when your best work is remakes of diva classics. WHICH just real quick, I think is kind of cute to do when it's a random B-side from a diva. Don't just copy/paste a classic like Hot Stuff. Ugh. DISGUSTANG: Don't Give Up on Love, Someday, The Truth 1.) Lauv - ~How I'm Feeling~ (Electropop/Contemporary R&B) You really wanna know how I'm feeling Lauv? Allow me to direct you to the title of your Troye collab and add a bit more to it: "I'm so tired... of having to touch this ****ing album ever again!" My God, how can you have a 21-song album and only BARELY have one good song? Which didn't even come out this year. How did he get a Phoebe Bridgers co-write on this album? Like his bro LANY, I really think a woman destroyed this man's creative ability (he was dumped by Julia Michaels right?). Because not even like 2 years ago he was releasing SOME quality tracks like I Like Me Better, Comfortable, and Getting Over You. This is all just trite garbage that will be plastered all over Spotify because it KINDA sounds like a DECENT pop song. DISGUSTANG: EVERYTHING I only see LIES! Not mad about Dagny & Phoebe being on here tho
TheWayWeWere Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 nawt Brightest Blue I loved this actually Smile was so promising with NRO and Harleys lead into this... but then we got that trash
Blue Rose Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Well, none of these albums and artists made my lists so I have no choice but to agree Kygo is literally the worst “artist” on the planet. Closely followed by Zedd.
Psycho Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I like Strangers / Lovers, Brightest Blue, Smile Agreed on Astrid S tho, bland trash
SLIME Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I haven’t heard any of your worst tbh. I can usually tell pretty good when I’m not going to like something. Makes me more excited to see the best now
KasioKas Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Wow.. I just ranked Lauv's album as a decent effort lmao this drag!
Ewan Chaos Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 (edited) #UnapologeticBitch #EwanIsAnUnapologeticBitch #WhateverOtherHashtagsMadonnaUsedAllTheTimeIn2015 #VivaLaVendiViciVida #BitchI'mEwan That worst of list was actually incredibly fun to write; I'm definitely doing this every year now even if I start to get lazy about my Best Ofs. Let's get started on the best of the best (for me)! I will still probably do a bit of dragging though LOL. Top 50 Albums of 2020 "She said I looked like an American singer..." 50.) Taylor Swift - Folklore (Singer-Songwriter/Folk Pop) I have decided to include Taylor on my list, but at #50 lowkey as a statement LOL. Nah it is a good album. In my opinion her best album that I've listened to (I've only listened to 1989 onward so if you disagree, fair enough) and I think it's cute she decided to work with The National's Aaron for half of the record. Even if the album is 4/5 songs overstuffed, even the tracks that just come and go are still quite well-written. And a folksy album really caters to a musician's ability to write, as long as they're good. I REALLY wish the "trendy, Twitter stan-catering" all-lowercase albums thing would stop though. Listen to: Invisible String, The 1, Seven, The Last Great American Dynasty, Betty "Let me introduce you to the featherweight queen..." 49.) The Killers - Imploding the Mirage (Pop Rock/New Wave) Damn, who thought that The Killers had it in them to create another great album? And I'm not talking "cute album with 3 great songs"; this is a great full album! Like, I wish this was out when I'd seen them headline a festival 2 years ago. Caution is a bombastic and flawless lead single that both propelled the era in the right direction and works perfectly on its spot in the album. I love Dying Breed's second half. And the run on the tail end of the album is probably my favorite bit! My God lowkey probably being my favorite Weyes Blood track nnn. Listen to: Caution, Dying Breed, Imploding the Mirage, My God, When the Dreams Run Dry "Baby, I could praise you..." 48.) Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B (Synthpop/Dance-Pop) I was gonna leave this off of the list, but my Spotify Wrapped told me that Carly was my 5th most-listened to artist of the year so... I guess she deserves some credit? We all know Side A > Side B, but this was quite a cute collection and I'm glad her "B-Side records" are getting longer and longer. I think Window became my favorite track because of the inadvertent connection to Want You In My Room and the FUNK of that track. I love the concept of Felt This Way/Stay Away, but I don't really care much for them "separately" to be honest. And This is What They Say underrated funky bop! Listen to: Window, Summer Love, This is What They Say, Felt This Way/Stay Away "An old scratchy record plays in the background of our lives..." 47.) Marcus King - El Dorado (Blues Rock/Soul) GRAMMY-nominated KING! This was an early-year release that stuck with me throughout 2020. I think the humor in the songs about alcohol are probably the best tracks, but anything with a thumping beat is pretty great too. I think a saw a review that said his voice sometimes works for him and sometimes against him... I'm not entirely disagreeing with that, but it's only really one or two songs that his voice "works against him"/the music. Either way, if you're looking for a rocky/country-ish album from an underrated singer, check this out. Listen to: Wildflowers & Wine, Too Much Whiskey, The Well, One Day She's Here, Say You Will "I see everything..." 46.) Grimes - Miss Anthropocene (Art Pop/Electronic) Ah Mother of Aexobetanu XII12XCX. I know she gets a lot of flack for being a hack these days, but I honestly find it funny. Being complicit with her boyfriend ranting about how he'll coup Venezuela, but crying about some pronoun joke or something. Those kinda thoughts actually lead similarly to how I feel about Grimes's newest album: I understand why it's not really liked, but I enjoy it! Visions and Art Angels were back to back SMASHERS, so it does say a lot that this is only top 50 for me though. But both Delete Forever and IDORU, for example, are cute new territory for c and the D&B gibberish of 4AEM is fun as hell. Go ahead and eat your spaghetti, Grimes, you deserve it. Listen to: Delete Forever, 4AEM, Violence, IDORU, You'll Miss Me When I'm Not Around Edited December 9, 2020 by Ewan Chaos
Ewan Chaos Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Comments under the spoiler~ Spoiler On 12/8/2020 at 1:42 PM, BlackoutZone said: But for real tho - I thought Dagny's album was very consistent, it's not groundbreaking or anything, but pretty much every track is on the same level, simply pleasant to listen Songs like Paris or Let Me Cry are just so inoffensive? If you like Somebody I don't see how you couldn't click with the rest, BBB for sure is a instant knock tho Brightest Blue is understandable to me, but Power being its bottom? Chile the ****! AS for Skott I think the album definitely could be something more, her newest tracks are more bland and she only picked 2 of the original pre-release singles on it, yet they remain stronger than the final record on its own. I look at the album differently, because I added all the original singles and compiled my own tracklist, own storyline. I guess with all the songs that I've been loving since 2017/2018 the album gains enough to be appreciated, perhaps without them it isn't at all. I like that you did that with Skott's album; I don't really do that anymore now that I'm a slave to Spotify unfortunately. Like I said, I really enjoyed her EP from 2018 I was just hoping for more of an interesting story like I know she can do. I understand the enjoyment! 23 hours ago, mokitsu said: i thought it was going to be a best album list i gasped when i saw lauv at #1 i loved the ellie album there were callbacks to her best material (including my blood!) with the production and i found the lyrics really good.. they're not the most poetic, but they're personal and relatable enough. certainly didn't expect to like an ellie album in 2020, but it works perfectly to me. dagny's is cute too! she gave us scandinavian bops HAHA could you imagine. I actually felt like the Ellie album was just trying to hard to be Halcyon 2.0 but hey if you liked it you liked it! People really liked Dagny's album too, huh. 23 hours ago, Madame X said: i have heard one lauv song, and it was a traumatic experience. i believe you when you put it at #1 NNN I'd love to know which one. I mean hello "Harleys in Hawaii" is a flawless, timeless track. "Smile" track is fun as hell. Stop being uptight and have some FUN! It's pop music ffs. Girl how can you defend SMILE as an album to have fun to? I didn't list them but Harleys & Smile title track actually were cute as well compared to other tracks. But the bad songs on that album, God it just dragged the album down so much. 19 hours ago, Legend E said: MENTAL ILLNESS sksksksksksk I said what I said!!!!!!!!!!! 17 hours ago, Ava Max said: I couldn't finish Dagny & Astrid's albums they're really bland Tea But apparently people here seem to love that Dagny album so give it a chance maybe 17 hours ago, Smilers said: I liked some albums on that list, but I always had a soft spot for inoffensive pop music looking forward to your best of list You know... I gave Higher Love a pass because it's a B-side, generally unknown song so it's kinda fun to give something like that life. BlackoutZone Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 No cause, 2 of these albums are in my top 10 of 2020 so you are really starting to lose in my eyes with these updates But hello at least they made the list and I know my AOTY will be high and my second fave album of 2020 will be #1
Mezik Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Nice way to open up with 'folklore', its such a wonderful work of art. Killers and Grimes new albums are great as well!
Psycho Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 We love Folklore barely making lists Dedicated was nice for a month or so but it's nothing compared to Emotion Side B Miss Anthropocene was decent... Art Angels >
Kevin2803 Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I am not mad at Folklore being so low Carly It is not like i hated Dagny's album, i just didn't care much about it. I just can't get into her music for some reason.
Remmy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 folklore, Imploding the Mirage & Dedicated Side B all in a row But the fact that they're the bottom 3... Side B is a fun time. I agree about folklore being a bit overstuffed. "My God lowkey probably being my favorite Weyes Blood track nnn." Kiii, same. I'd say your ITM faves are the best & most spot on out of those 3 albums.

Hug Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 It's interesting that you'd put folklore relatively low, yet I can't be mad at it because in a way I agree? Like I won't say it's a bad album, it just whelmed me. It did what it wanted and that's that. It definitely wasn't the world-shaking experience for me that others would claim it was for them.
ARTPØP Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Glad to see Folklore & Dedicated Side B on your list! Definitely upset at Brightest Blue being one of your least favorite albums
