ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 10, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 10, 2020 Quote I REALLY wish the "trendy, Twitter stan-catering" all-lowercase albums thing would stop though. I 100% agree. My main problem with folklore is that it's too long and the tracks towards the end are not iT. I also don't like Taylor but that's another story Dedicated Side B was also not that good
Lazuli Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 don't do too much on brightest blue but yas i LOVE the lauv drag, these uninspired spotify-catering white boys need to STOP folklore is too low!!!!! imploding the mirage is an improvement for them dedicated side b yas praise miss anthropocene a little, it gets too much hate tbh. idoru and delete forever are really career highlights
potent Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Whew Imploding the Mirage They really slayed unexpectedly this year. I don't like Lightning Fields that much but basically everything else
K$Ellie Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I agree about Folklore being Taylor's best since 1989 (and overall) but it's too low also invisible string is filler Side B was a cute release, Summer Love and TIWTS as standouts whew Didn't mind the Dagny album but kiii put her in her place, gays overrate her a lot the Ellie drags are gross, especially for Power Astrid dragging post-Emotion is always welcome
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Second time in a row I see Folklore being ranked 50th. That's a tremendous coincidence. Anyway, great album!
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 NOOO NIKI in the worst album But yeah, i kinda agree though. Feels like she want to have a similar sounds to Billie's earlier work but girl, you don't need to do that. She has a lot of time to improve on her next LP or else i'll chop her on my list dd "But holy GOD what a fall from grace from Bad Liar" Oh wow we love facts. BL is still her magnum opus and i don't think she'll ever top it tbh. Wait LANY & LAUV are actually brothers? what a mess. i didn't know that Dagny, Ellie & Katy in the top 10 worst album? Can't say i'm surprised But i legimatley love Dagny's album though, maybe it was too ahead of the times for certain people. Kygo released an album this? i don't know her Folklore, Imploding the Mirage & Dedicated Side B are 1-2-3 punch wbk. But they were too low dd
geodancefreak Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Troye Sivan and Shygirl in EPs Dagny's album is def not that bad, tho.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Folklore is great in terms of lyrics, and there's many highlights on it, but I think it's a bit overrated and monotonus Grimes is so low on another list I love her album so much, so I'm surprised about its reception on atrl
Blue Rose Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Grimes too low!! Thats a fair spot for The Killers (who missed my top50 but probably woukdve made my top60)
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 10, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 10, 2020 i like the all lowercase albums! im super adhd/easilly distracted/miss details so its just easier to type everything in all lower case lol. i empathize. dsb, grimes, and folklore. seems like this set was the dumping grounds for good albums that still deserve lashings in many ways. grimes fall from grace sucks, but goddamn 4aem is so good. that gibberish is a highlight of 2010s music for me. idoru is my fave new track glad u like it.
Wicked Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 This is a great set of album. Folklore was a bore to me, and I'm not gonna even bother with Grimes, I didn't like Art Angels either so I knew an even bigger disappointment was coming. Lemme pull up a chair.
Ewan Chaos Posted December 10, 2020 Author Posted December 10, 2020 Yall my full ranked list is 230 albums!!!! Anything making top 50 is good/had good replay value for me! Tbh even the top 100 would have been pretty easy to write about/say that I enjoyed (but god I don't have the time for THAT). But also not me shading Folklore and then the next day says "Well **** you Ewan" and decides to release a new album "Why should I die so you can live?..." 45.) Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter (Contemporary Folk/Singer-Songwriter) I streamed this quite a bit in like September and then fell off a bit to it, hence why it's a bit lower than some other comparable singer/songwriter albums. I actually had never listened to a Laura Marling album before either but I figured 2020 is the year where (most) albums are gonna be at their peak lol. And I'm really glad I listened! Nothing tops the first song for me, but it's a really solid and beautiful effort. Listen to: Alexandra, Held Down, Song For Our Daughter, Strange Girl, Hope We Meet Again "Whatever you want, whatever you need, do you wanna?..." 44.) Dornik - Limboland (Alternative R&B/Synth Funk) SO GLAD my R&B king released a new album after 5 years. Sure it's not as good as the debut, but I enjoy that it's not just a retread. And it's interesting that there's so many featured artists on these songs. Of course, I was shaking when I saw Gavin (I'm a HUGE stan) on the lead single and it's clearly the best track - apparently they're working on a collab EP or something YAAAAS. For those that know nothing about Dornik: he actually was the drummer for Jessie Ware's first tour. Listen to: Do You Wanna? (feat. Gavin Turek), Retail Therapy (feat. Barney Artist), Space Jamm, You Got It (feat. Taylor Graves), Temptation (feat. Zelly One) "Live a wave that crashed and melted on the shore..." 43.) Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher (Singer-Songwriter/Indie Folk) I think the album is... overpraised in all honestly, at least by critics. I stanned Ms. Bridgers with Funeral 3 years ago because I unfortunately relate too much to the song, but the rest of the album I guess was just... okay? I think Punisher is a definite improvement and more consistent rather than being focused on the big good songs (Funeral, Demi Moore). I Know the End was probably the most immediate song and imo the most image evocative that gets me emotional every time I listen. Listen to: I Know the End, Garden Song, Graceland Too, Punisher, Kyoto "Maybe I'll try, maybe I'll die trying..." 42.) Ethan Gruska - En Garde (Singer-Songwriter/Indie Folk) If you like Phoebe Bridgers, listen to Ethan (I think he produced her first album). If you don't like Phoebe, don't listen to Ethan nnn. The fact that they also have a song together is pretty indicative of this, though what I enjoy about Enough for Now is that it kinda sounds like a toned down Such Great Heights. There were also Lianne and Moses collabs on here that were cute but not my favorite picks. The reason why this edges out over Phoebe is probably because I played the **** out of Enough for Now nnn. Listen to: Enough for Now (feat. Phoebe Bridgers), On the Outside, Maybe I'll Go Nowhere, Teenage Drug, Dialing Drunk "I'm too old to be crying out..." 41.) Everything Everything - Re-Animator (Progressive Pop/Art Rock) My favorite British progressive bitches! They will never top Get to Heaven at this point, but I'm glad they're returning to a bit better quality with this record (I was meh on the last one). As usual, the best songs are either the big bops (Violent Sun, Big Climb) or the more "interesting" tracks (Lost Powers, Arch Enemy). This was another one that is a tiny bit lower because I didn't replay it too much compared to higher albums in the top 40, but I highly recommend it if you're wanting to check out an Everything Everything album. Listen to: Violent Sun, Big Climb, Arch Enemy, Lost Powers, Planets

I agree about folklore being a bit overstuffed. "My God lowkey probably being my favorite Weyes Blood track nnn." Kiii, same. I'd say your ITM faves are the best & most spot on out of those 3 albums. Top 50 out of 229 albums is GOOD! I saw you stanning The Killers in your Best Of so I'm not surprised you have taste with the best tracks from that album! I see a lot of Fire in Bone praise too, which it's maybe my #6? 20 hours ago, KasioKas said: Have you liked any of his previous work? Yeah! Esp The Man, that's still a KILLER track. And then...... 20 hours ago, Hug said: It's interesting that you'd put folklore relatively low, yet I can't be mad at it because in a way I agree? Like I won't say it's a bad album, it just whelmed me. It did what it wanted and that's that. It definitely wasn't the world-shaking experience for me that others would claim it was for them. Yep! I kinda hate the unabashed confidence it's now given Swifties but at the same time it is GOOD! and it's an album that clearly plays to Taylor's strengths, even if her pop bops are also great. 20 hours ago, Green said: Folklore and Imploding the Mirage Talent mmm yes. 20 hours ago, ARTPØP said: Glad to see Folklore & Dedicated Side B on your list! Kevin2803 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Not Taylor releasing a new album right after your Folklore "shade" I don't know anyone on your recent update, to be honest I mean, i know the name Phoebe Bridgers, but i am not sure if i ever listened to her songs.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Punisher agreed with overpraised comment, it's good listen, but I wouldn't call this masterpiece or something (except for I Know the End)
Tom Vercetti Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 folklore shouldn't have made it all [2] Also whew at 230 albums. Wish I have as much effort for new year Phoebe Rogers (and Indie Folk in general) have been overpraised, I agree.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 11, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2020 alllright lets get into it. ok, ive heard one of these and im sure you know what it is and what my opinion of it is lemme listen to a random one, i probably would like ee because i like their previous stuff.
