My peaks might be a bit off, but I know Motivation was much higher on airplay than on sales. "Motivation" peaked at #25 on digital songs. Mezik Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Most of, if not all of, Carrie Underwood's top twenty hits have been due to radio. In fact, most country artists benefit from radio more so than sales/streaming.

Yeah, I was gonna say most hit songs from 2004-2005 will fit this bill by default lol.
sadnews Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 urban radio songs tend to have less sales than pop radio songs tho.

Obviously, at that time, 12" singles could count toward sales on that chart, but not the Hot 100. Since the B-Side was the bigger hit, I don't know why BB didn't switch sides. I know with Gloria Ganers (I probably misspelled her name) signature song, I Will Survive, was actually the B-Side, but BB counted it as the song on the Hot 100. Debates relating to BB's refusal to allow Groove on the Hot 100, and even excluded from the Airplay Chart, have raged on for decades, literally. Since Groove received more airplay than any other Madonna song, charting Angel instead of the much more popular Groove likely cost Madonna a #1 song. All of the other music magazines at that time (Radio and Records [the predecessor of MB] and Cashbox) did allow Groove to chart, and it at least went Top Five on both of those charts. Hmm, maybe because into the groove wasn't the b-side of the 45? (Which a 45 record for those of y'all who don't know is basically the CD single and one song digital download of the 50s - 80s)

(Which a 45 record for those of y'all who don't know is basically the CD single and one song digital download of the 50s - 80s) Angel was certified Gold (which at that time was 1 M in sales. BB listed Angel's certification, and BB said that the Gold certification was for the 12" led by Into The Groove. At that time, for some strange reason, 12" releases counted for sales and single eligibility on the R&B/Hip Hop chart, but not for the Hot 100. Since songs like You Can't Touch This (1990), which was only available as a 12", BB changed its Hot 100 policy for single eligibility. In fact, many songs in 1997 and especially in 1998, labels released 12" singles so they could chart on the Hot 100. Some 12" songs only sold 2,000 copies/week, or even less.
