volition Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 60. Apples - Lily Allen it is kind of an interesting change to see her examining herself instead of attacking someone else. her new album is a lot more interesting to me than anything she has done in the past for this reason. musica folk pop 59. Nice For What - Drake drake always seems to get something right amongst the mass of uninspired trash he ***** out every year. the ex-factor sample was a brilliant idea, making this song one of the best hits of the year. musica pop rap 58. AS Another Life - Amnesia Scanner kinda reminds me of a bunch of mia songs of different genres all mashed together. musica deconstructed club 57. Ace (feat. Smino & Saba) - Noname rap’s most poetic songstress tells her story, while the guest vocalists come through and do what they needed to do. musica conscious hip hop 56. Catch It - Iceage far and away the best thing i’ve heard from them, so well envisioned, and so catchy. musica post-punk 55. Helix - Kelly Moran the piano but with tapping noises thing does kind of get old over a whole album, but this track is a beautiful encapsulation of the concept. musica post-minimalism 54. Black Pearl - SUNMI lush, pulsating synthwave song, the kind that i want to hear more of from the kpop scene (as in, i don’t know if it exists already). musica synthpop, k-pop 53. SICKO MODE - Travis Scott ignoring drake as any sane person should, this is probably the best hit of the year, a genuinely interesting and progressive trap song that shows that rodeo was no fluke. but pls, make another rodeo. musica pop rap 52. Hi Def Distance Romance - Kimbra honestly better than most of the album, minus last year’s top of the world. very fresh, not just in the musical sense but ‘fresh sounding’. musica electropop 51. Across To Anoyo - Tim Hecker king tim just wanted to airbnb in kyoto for his birthday and look what happened musica ambient
volition Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 50. Spells - Jenny Hval a very interesting and beautiful song from jenny hval. i only very recently delved into her catalog and was impressed by her creativity and versatility, but this song is unlike what i’ve heard from her before, because it is very sophisto-poppy. i didn’t even listen her whole ep, just this track because of the positive reception to it. musica art pop 49. Love Can Be So Hard - Disclosure i guess disclosure are getting a bit better again, as they move into a new direction for the 2nd time. i wish it wasn’t so repetitive though. musica future funk 48. Void - Kilo Kish this draws from so many separate types of electronic music and r&b that it makes for an exciting listen. musica alternative r&b 47. Distortion - Mount Eerie long and sad, a little less direct than a crow looked at me, but it’s very beautiful and it has incredible lyrics. musica indie rock 46. Chun-Li - Nicki Minaj we hate her indeed, but this song has enough quotables to sustain atrl until after i die, and it really had me thinking the album was going to be her best effort. musica hardcore hip hop (according to rym) 45. It Will Last Forever - I Hate Models i’m not familiar with industrial techno at all, but if this is what it sounds like, please give me more to listen to. what a heavy, invigorating, and dancefloor-ready techno track. musica industrial techno 44. Rose in Harlem - Teyana Taylor jesus this is perfect, what a brilliant sample. also she sounds like dua lipa. musica contemporary r&b 43. X-RAY - Tommy Cash the exact dotted line between dated eurohouse and eurohouse revivalism as irony. absolutely hilarious to listen to. musica happy hardcore 42. cherubim - serpentwithfeet i’ve been wanting someone to fully embrace gospel stylings in alternative r&b, and who better to carry that out than a fantastic singer. musica alternative r&b 41. USA - Jeff Rosenstock musica power pop
Lazuli Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Chun-Li, Sicko Mode and Catch It are the best here

Vxspertine Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Don't mind me just catching up here RENIEGO is definitely a highlight on Rosalia's album vocally Lotus is what they play on the elevator to heaven We Appreciate Power grew on me a little but I still think it's not that good Smerz did a few things on that song Butterflies is the best song on Golden Hour by a LOT CLARENCE GETTING RECOGNITION OMG Noname kind of snapped on Ace a little bit I still feel like Across To Anoyo could have been atleast 5 minutes shorter but it's still amazing Distortion
Eeveelution Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Oh bitch this a serve! Apples is great, I agree I love the more reflective lyrics from her. The Noname and Iceage songs are nice. Black Pearl Hi Def being better than the album is a reach, but it's a pretty song. Void is really underrated! A good choice for her. Spells and Rose Yeah Chun Li really hoodwinked me into thinking queen would be good. LCBSH is the only disclosure song I heard this year, it was good.
Vilppu Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Quote the kind that i want to hear more of from the kpop scene (as in, i don’t know if it exists already) it does not but you should maybe listen to this song. it doesn't sound like black pearl in the slightest but i think you should listen anyway Quote i didn’t even listen her whole ep, just this track because of the positive reception to it. the right way to do that really fun set overall. wish i liked mount eerie songs more due to how poignant they are but musically they ain't doin it for me sadly

volition Posted December 24, 2018 Author Posted December 24, 2018 40. yoruwooyoideta - harunemuri the riff that ties the whole song together is so catchy and tense, it definitely makes this song one of the most memorable of harutosyura. this song is notably absent of her usual screaming and loud noise elements; it’s quieter, but it keeps me hanging on to every moment. musica j-pop / noise rock / japanese hip hop 39. One Kiss - Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa one of the best mainstream pop songs of the year. it’s not hugely original or anything, but all of dua’s contemporaries are making such trash that she immediately stands out for her slightly more left-field decisions. i love the recent incorporations of garage house and uk garage into pop songs (like ntltc as well). musica garage house 38. Moving in a Liquid (feat. Eddie Fummler) - DJ Koze the synths on this are straight up gorgeous, and the scattered glitchy flourishes remind me of discovery era daft punk. a really nice deep house track. musica deep house 37. When You Die - MGMT very dark suicidal lyrics contrasted with nonchalant, jovial instrumentals are basically what i feed on. musica psychedelic pop 36. My Queen is Harriet Tubman - Sons of Kemet musica afro-jazz 35. Focus - Charli XCX the best charli song this year and i won’t hear anything against it (5 in the morning put up a worthy fight though too). musica electropop 34. Bubblin' - Anderson .Paak so much better than anything on his album that i am very confused as to why it didn’t end up making it. musica west coast hip hop 33. The Light is Coming (feat. Nicki Minaj) - Ariana Grande and so here i have to rant about the most unfairly vilified track of the year. when the song came out, i was immediately impressed at the work she had done with pharrell and felt it to be her best song to that moment. i saw that it wasn’t so well received on atrl but i thought that was a vocal minority of the tasteless group of her fans that have like, camila in their signatures. but as it turns out no matter the fanbase, whether on here or twitter or whatever, it was completely hated, and i was mad. i was mad because surely ariana would notice the reception to this song, and she would end up making whatever trash would appease her fanbase when she has the potential to do so much better. so basically, ariana’s fans mostly suck & i am always right. musica dance-pop 32. Fists of Fury - Kamasi Washington idk what to write about this but it’s epic and powerful. musica spiritual jazz 31. L-Over - U.S. Girls curiously overlooked as a highlight whenever i see people talking about this album, i suppose it’s because it’s a bit slower and less immediately engaging. i was finding it quite hard to decide on the song here but l-over has stayed with me the longest, i think. musica psychedelic pop
Lazuli Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 One Kiss Focus is not the best Charli song but the worst part is that you thot 5ITM was the next closest one
Vilppu Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 3 hours ago, volition said: damn the song you linked me was brav is the word brave positive or negative i rly don't know anymore Quote so basically, ariana’s fans mostly suck looove bubblin and you're totally right, all of oxnard combined isn't even half as good. focus is second best charli song this year so i would fight but i respect all 5ITM stans, i hope both of you have a great 2019. l-over isn't my top US girls track but it's up there for sure
