I mean, it’s not the biggest song of the year (As It Was is a mammoth) and it’s incredibly old. We’ll see what happens.

Posted

the thing about RUTH is its very old and already a well known song by the older crowd. these radio DJs know it and have been listening for decades. its a staple on your local gym playlist and oldies radio station.

Pop radio playing it at all is shocking cause realistically it should not be getting this many spins

we have to be realistic

I disagree, the song never was a big hit in the States to begin with, it received almost no airplay at all before the historic resurgence. It works because in contrast to already known classics, this one doesn't have the same familiarity, so most generations are likely discovering it, and has clicked with everyone, especially the teens/young adults crowd. Sure, it's an unusual thing, but Pop radio should embrace the hits, and this feels like one of the biggest hits this year, it's not just another quick viral thing, the sales/streaming longevity confirm this.

i'm gonna have to disagree with you. I heard it quite a bit on oldies stations. A cover version used to be a part of Planet Fitness playlist a couple years ago

older generations know it, it's the younger generations just now discovering it and older folks "re-discovering it". so yes it's finding a new audience, but it's still nearly 40 years old

being upset more radio stations aren't adding it to power rotation feels a bit much. it's doing well beyond anyone could have ever imagined

and I have to disagree with you!  I grew up in the 80's and I NEVER heard this song (or any Kate Bush song for that matter) until now.  I knew of her name, but that's it. RUTH was not a radio hit back in the day, so I wasn't exposed to it.

I disagree with all the disagreements.

Anyways lord how many Doja songs will pop send to Top 10?

Oh yes, well now I can agree with you. :eli: I mean, it's just that we wanted to be #1 and we need al the radio support we can get.

Besides that, it's pretty incredible and historic what it's going on, I mean, the fact it's flying up the way it is as huge current hit on Pop radio, which barely touches anything that's not from this milenium feels unreal.

Why would the song be on power when it’s not even Top 10 on Pop yet?

No did not know that song. Not even a little bit and wow I really hate it a lot. I'm extremely confused how it is #1 on radio in the US.

Truth Hurts is at least okay and I can understand the appeal. ADT I really dont get

My guess is that Vegas got pushed to Pop, and it is nearly impossible for Pop radio to push 3 songs from the same artist. It looks like I Like You is going to be the one squeezed out, while Get Into It (Yuh!) maxes out on Pop radio and Vegas makes its run.
